According to Overstreet, the first issue of Catholic Comics vol.1 #1 was issued in June of 1946.

Overstreet does list #1-4, but I have never seen any evidence that they exist, and some slight internal evidence that they do not.  I'd love to see them, of course, but I'm convinced at this point that the series started with #5.
