Hi Gang,
I've started a new topic for CBpop here to announce his uploads.
He's just made his First upload for us all -
Amazing Adventures of Buster Crabbe #1! (http://digitalcomicmuseum.com/index.php?dlid=20017)
Thanks to CB for these!
-Yoc

Thanks CB for being a part of our uploading community.
-
Thanks for the warm welcome. DCM is a fantastic project and I hope I can help with any needed scans. I've collected comics since the early 1960s and have a special interest in Science Fiction from the 1950s era, especially Tom Corbett Space Cadet. I still have a lot of questions but I can see that there is a lot of support and dedication here. I will do my best to provide what is needed for DCM. and thanks again for providing such a fantastic "gold mine" of classic panel literature.
-
And thank-you CB!
We've upgraded you status to VIP member for your efforts.
Welcome to the club! :)

I've uploaded a revised Tom Corbett March of Comics 102 (Dell) scan and forgot to include the information below from the original scan.:
Original info: MOC 102 - Scans-Bucket Head, Uploader - Prime User
Sorry, I meant no slight to the original scanners. I'm still learning my way around. I also upload issue #34 of Quality's Marmaduke Mouse. I tried several scanning settings for a brighter scan of the artwork. I tested the file on my Android Razr and was pleased with the look. I'm always open for instruction :) Thanks
-
Thanks CB, they look just great.
Both are now up.
-
Just uploaded a Lance O'Casey comic from Fawcett with some interesting Marvel Family collectibles. I've added some thumbnails to see how they look, I hope they came out ok.
A question: I found an excellent comic reader App for my Android Razr called "Comic Rack". So far it has worked out well, although it appears to still be in Beta format. The paid version works with the Windows version to sync comics between the Android and the PC. It is bundled with an open source zip program called 7Zip. Has anyone else used these programs and what is there experience?
-
Sorry CB, your upload didn't make it to us.
:(
I haven't tried those apps either. Anyone else?
-
Yoc, it's up now for everyones enjoyment.
Thanks CB for the upload.

Thanks Geo and Ed.

Just uploaded First Romance Magazine # 43 - December 1956 . The book was very brittle and yellow aged. Instead of a scanner I shot the pages using a Cannon Rebel digital camera.
This issue seems to have an variety of different art styles. Maybe swipes or filler work by established artist. Not sure, but some of the artwork looks very familiar. Any ideas or do I see some good swipes? :)
"Bitter Honeymoon" - Johnny Craig?
"Trouble in July" - Carmine Infantino?
"Heartbreak Flight" - George Wunder?
-
Thanks CB!
I renamed it to match the others already on the site and added it's from digital pics.

Thanks for the credits Jim.

Thanks for the information Jim, I knew someone would have the right answers.

Uploaded complete Real Funnies Number 1 with original 7 scans of Black Terrier scans and cover by Steve Rogers. The added pages were digital photos. 68 pages cover to cover- 60 pages digital photos.
-
Thanks CB!
:)
-
Hi Snard,
I'm glad you liked the digital copies for the comic. I'll be glad to do the Black Terrier pages and add them to the comic. I really envy Rangerhouse's equipment, he's fast and the final results are excellent. I really appreciate all of the work he has done to bring the golden age comics to fans.
It takes a little longer for me to do the camera work. I've made a working model of a holding frame that keeps the pages flat (without breaking the spine) and natural light for the pictures. I have to hold and center the camera for the shots, eventually I will have an fixed point attachment for the camera which will make it easier and maybe a little faster.
It's a slow process, but it has preserved the spines of the brittle comics I've photographed. On several pages of the Real Funnies I did have to use PhotoShop to tone down the discolored pages due to aging and bring out the color. This is new for me and I'm just learning the ropes. Thanks for the encouragement, I'll do my best.
-
Some day soon I'm going to find a way to add to this "genre", guys.
Last Thursday Bud Plant came by to visit and he and I rigged up a jig to photograph the copies of Jumbo #2 and 5 that he'd just purchased. It took us a little time to work out the "kinks" of the system, especially since #2 was quite brittle and the paper was different colors. I want to know if someone is interested in taking the files and put them in sequence (we did odds and then evens to speed up the photographing), and do whatever adjusting might be necessary (there was some spine curl/shadows in the first half of the first book until we worked out a system to get rid of it. The files are still on the card in my camera and I need to download them into the computer and put them onto a thumb drive - but then I'm looking for a volunteer to do the dirty work of getting them onto the site. This week is being booked rapidly, but it MIGHT happen. Help.
Peace, Jim (|:{>
-
Hi Jim,
SURE, I'll take them and package it all for DCM!
Just upload your files to the DCM ftp and let me know when they are all there.
Sound good?
-
Hi Jim and Yoc,
I look forward to seeing the Jumbo comics. I would be glad to help in the future if any clean up of pages with PhotoShop is needed. I have a couple of big projects on the stove now with the upcoming Solar Guard reunion in Williamsburg, but should be able to provide any needed help on cleanup in the future. I feel like the crew at DCM are really providing a great service to comic fans around the world and I'm glad to help in any small way I can.
Ed
-
Jim has made arrangements for the two Jumbo scans but thanks for your offer Ed.
Good luck with the reunion!
-
It's Movielover's challenge, guys, and good luck to him. I just put a thumbdrive into the mail to him with 123 files (somehow I feel that there should have been at least 128) on it. If we missed some pages, it's going to be even MORE challenging. We shot all of the right-hand pages (front cover, page 1, page 3, etc.) and then turned the book over and shot the inside front cover, page, 2, page 4, etc. Of course, the pages aren't numbered and the stories are erratic in length. One helpful plus is going to be that the paper is quite varied in color throughout at least issue #2 - which may be of use if we missed any pages when we were shooting. #2 was VERY brittle and Bud and I were intensely nervous when we started as the pages kept separating from the spine with every full opening. We eventually settled on a 90 degree positioning under the tripod facing the natural light of the window and so the further along in the shoot, the better things look - with fewer shadows. At least I hope that is what happens. We'll all find out when ML posts his work. Let me know when the drive arrives and that the files are all readable. I have backups if necessary.
Peace, Jim (|:{>
-
It sounds like a very interesting challenge, good Luck Movielover. I found that the 90 degree angle was a little to sharp and made the angle on the frame a little larger, so that opposite pages wouldn't shade each other when taking pictures. I'm still working on the best angle for the frame and will pass along what seems best for shooting when I can get some sunshine again. The East Coast has been socked in with fog and rain. There's not much you can do when the pages are that brittle.. just hope that it will hold together long enough to get a good picture. PhotoShop really can bring life back to the pages. Good Luck....
-
Just uploaded Fantastic Adventures # 18 - Super Comics - Paper scan c2c 36 pages - Story by H.G. Wells "Invisible Man". Reprint of Superior Stories #1 Nesbit Publishers May 1955.
-
Thanks very much Ed!
-
Greetings all,
I've uploaded a 52 page Punch and Judy from 1946 that was in fair/bad shape. The back cover was missing and there were a number of tares throughout the book. I found a back cover for the upload on E-Bay and photoshoped the tares. I numbered the pages through 52 leaving 51 out in hopes someone has the inside back cover. I hope to have a few more scans up soon, it's been a very busy spring ; -)
Punch and Judy - October 1946- Vol 2 Number 3 - Paper Scan - 51 pages. Missing IBC.
-
Book approved and ready for everybody to enjoy. Thank you, CB!
-
Hi CB,
If you ever are stumped for covers shoot me an email. I might have access to a fill.
Thanks for the upload!
-Yoc
-
Thanks Yoc, I'll be sure to check with you next time. I'm a little rusty in uploading files since it's been several months ; -) I'm working on another poor/damaged comic that I think will be a good addition to DCM - Superior's OUR SECRET # 4 with some great Jack Kamen artwork. I'll using the photo form to keep the comic in one piece. Wish me Spaceman's Luck ;-)
Ed
-
Hi Ed,
You can upload via the ftp or the Upload File link on the site.
Either works fine for us.
-
Uploaded Superior's Our Secret Vol 1 # 4 November 1949 with some great Jack Kamen art. The comic was in very poor condition and I had to split the copy work with a camera and scanner about 50 /50 with a cover from Heritage Auctions. If you are an EC fan, you may see some familiar characters in the background :)
-
It's been approved, thanks CB.
Geo
-
Just uploaded two comics.
1-Koka Kola # 4 from ME 1947, before the A-1 series of the Adventures of Koka Kola. Wasn't sure where to place it, so I listed it under the general ME section
2-Famous Funnies # 197- December 1951- 52 pages - there wasn't a Buck Rogers strip in the comic so it's a -complete comic - 30% paper scan 70% digital photo.
-
Thanks Ed. Actually it's Koko. I fixed it and it's now live on the site.
Also added your Famous Funnies.
-
Thanks Yoc,
We had three of our grand daughters with us for the weekend and it tends to get a little lively around the house with them : -) Now that they have gone home, it seem a little too quiet ... go figure. Thanks for watching my back.
Ed
-
Happy to help Ed.
Sounds like you had a great time with the little ones.
:)
-
Hi Yoc,
Just uploaded three scans
-Smitty Dell Four Color 99 - posted it to the Smitty Dell section ... couldn't find a Four Color directory
-Tille the Toiler 159 - posted to the general Dell.... same as for 99 couldn't find a four Color directory
-Popular Comics 26 to Popular Comics under Dell.
Using my new plustek Optic Book 3800 scanner. Still learning some of the tricks and program menus. Hope the scans came out ok for all
Ed
-
Thanks Ed!
These will be the first scans to mark the FOURTH Anniversary of our little site here.
The Popular does make me a tad nervous with the Dick Tracy in particular. I'd look it up and add it later if I can confirm it's safe.
The others are now up!
-Yoc
-
Thanks Yoc,
I look forward to seeing the new 4th Anniversary scans from others who have scanned. By the way, great anniversary banner..really cool. Happy 4th anniversary DCM and thanks for being here for comic fans from all over the world...!!!!
Ed
-
Glad you like the banner Ed. The new books are now up in the temporary 2014 DCM Anniversary Gifts Section now.
Some fun stuff including the latest Rangerhouse archive - Pat Patriot!

Just posted Avon Publishers 1951 Little Jack Frost # 1. Not the best of condition, I had to do a quick PhotoShop cleanup on the cover. If I have time, I'll do more cleanup on the cover later. This issue was on JVJ's list of book to scan complete with Frank Carin art.
-
Many thanks CB!
Now up gang.
-
Just uploaded a Railroad giveaway “Cliff Merritt Sets the Record Straight”. It's from the 1960s or earlier. This issue was given to me in late 1968 or 69 and as a giveaway, it may still be in print. The paper used for this issue is similar to quality paper used in comics today. Sure would be nice if all comics had been printed on this type of paper rather than pulp ;-) Per Overstreet, there is another giveaway issue that would be nice to see.
Ed
-
Thanks Ed!
-
Just uploaded Jet Power #1, a 1963 IW reprint of ME's 1950 Jet Powers issue 1 . The pages were “overcut” (?) where the art was trimmed to or beyond the edge of the page in about ½ of the book. I had to reconstruct the margin and realign the edges. Some of the pages may not be exactly square but it's not because of the scan, it's due to IW's poor cuts. I've seen this in Charlton Comics over the years and it has always bothered me that the quality control was so loose on some of the books. Just a pet peeve of mine ;D
Ed
-
Now up, thanks for the new upload Ed.
:)
-
Uploaded corrected Jet Power 1 IW reprint with two missing pages, sorry for the mistake :( The pages were still in the correction directory I used to straighten the panels and I just overlooked them in my haste to get the file up. I've added Update to the file name to help ID the correct file.
Ed
-
Thanks Ed, the fixed book is now up and the old one removed.
Thanks!
-
Just uploaded Planet Comics 10 paper GM scan with new front and back covers from HA.com and GM removed for Yoc to review. A few adjustments were made to square some of the pages, but several page scans were to misaligned to adjust without making the art look strange. I have several more Planet Comics ( # 11 & 13) by GM that will be cleaned and added later. It's a slow process :)
-
I'll let Yoc handle this.
Geo
-
I've just uploaded Planet Comics 11, the second of three GM scanned Planet Comics replacing fiche copies .
Please hold for Yoc.
GM initials were removed from the pages, a better front and back cover from HA.com replaced the GM covers and adjustments were made to square some of the pages. Minor corrections were made to the HA.com cover to clean up some minor tear lines and creases. Page size increased by 40% for better resolution.
Planet Comics # 13 is the last GM Planet comic I have to clean and I hope to have it uploaded later this week.
Ed
-
Thanks Ed!
-
Uploaded Planet Comics 13, the last of three GM Planet Comics I had to clean to replace fiche copies .
Please hold for Yoc.
GM initials were removed from the pages, a better front and back cover from HA.com replaced the exisiting scans and a few adjustments were made to square some of the pages.
-
Many, many thanks CB.
All of them will be going live today.
:)
-
Just uploaded Dell Color 433 - Zane Grey's Wildfire November - January 1953. Paper Scan c2c. Had a little trouble uploading the file as a .cbr but a re-format of the scans into a .cbz file uploaded without a problem. ;D
-
Now up, thanks CB!
-
Uploaded Dell Four Color 171 – Charlie McCarthy and the Twenty Thieves. First of six Charlie McCarthy Four Colors. I had to PhotoShop the cover, inside front, back and inside back . The covers were loose and missing sections. I clipped missing sections from a Heritage Auction cover and did some free hand drawing. Not the best , but it looks better from a distance :D
-
Looks great Ed!
I just sent you an email on this title. I hope you understand our concerns.
-
Uploaded ACG's Soldiers of Fortune # 3 scanned from a coverless copy. I'm not sure if issue 3 is a hard to find comic or a low demand issue, but I had a difficult time finding a cover for the digital file. A Google search found a small graphic on the Comicvine website which was used for the scanned file. I'll continue to search for a better cover and the missing pages for a future edit.
-
Now up!
:D
-
Uploaded a promotional comic (The March to Market) developed for the Swift Meat Company which describes how meat products move from the open range - to meatpacking plants - to stores - to our tables. I'm not sure of who the artist is but I do like the layouts used and the artwork. There are some nice western scenes and "out of panel" artwork. :D
-
Now up!
Thanks for the uploads CB
-
Just uploaded a School Bus Public Service poster from the late 1950s or 1960s (????) to the Misc Fun directory (Harvey Pioneer Pointers). Not sure, but it looks like Ray Bailey art. I couldn't find any information about the “Pioneer” spokesman of the poster, but it looks familiar, any ideas who the pioneer may be?
I tried to take a photo of the poster but didn't like the dull lighting so I scanned the poster in sections. I hope the connection lines aren't too much of a distraction. The poster is a real nice looking piece of art.
-
Now up, thanks CB!
-
Pioneer's Pointers - As suggested, I've uploaded the combined file of Narfstar's Pioneer's Pointers booklet and my Pioneer poster. I had hoped it was Ray Bailey artwork, but closer viewing indicates it is Lee Elias pencils. The different layouts for the safety tips using the same artwork is interesting to see. Did the artist get paid extra for the booklet or was the art reworked by someone else? Before PhotoShop it would be true cut and paste ;)
-
Thanks CB, now up.
Fingers crossed more of the package or other packages show up some day.
-
Just returned from a Nostalgia convention where I was able to trade a few older pulps for comics. One for DCM will be Parents Magazine Press TRUE COMICS # 33. According to Overstreet, the issue contains the 1st appearance of Special Agent Steve Saunders of the FBI. The issue is only in fair condition and will require some editing and careful scanning. Should have it up by the end of the week.
Ed
-
We'll be on the lookout for it, thank for the update CB.
Geo
-
Uploaded a very damaged True Comics # 33. Pages were a crispy brown and were deteriorating to the point of breaking off when touched. I had to use a thin paper sheet to turn the pages and photograph them on my photo frame. PhotoShop adjustments were necessary with varying results due to the advanced browning of the paper. I almost didn't upload the comic, but some pages are better than none ;) We may get lucky and find a better copy to scan. Wish it could have been a better copy.
I've listed the missing pages below based on the listing for True Comics # 33 in the Grand Comics Database.
Missing last page of “General Clark” , 'Common Cold” and “Spy for Freedom” stories. ( 3 pgs total)
Missing 5 page story “Call Him Doc”
Missing 7 page story “ Special Agent of the FBI”
-
Thanks for all your hard work on this book Ed.
-
Just uploaded Punch and Judy Vol 1 #7 from a Rangerhouse scan. The cover was found on the internet, it seems to be one of the harder ones to find.
Question: will the GCD update their database from this upload or should we submit the update?
-
There are a few GCDers keeping an eye on DCM for scans to use to update the GCD. But there are plenty of DCM scans not indexed on GCD that you are encouraged to tackle.
(I did already do the new Super Cat this morning because I have a pet project of tracing certain reprints.)
--Jim
-
Thanks Jim, I'll check and will update if not caught by GCD.
Ed
-
Now up.
I think those with JVJ index cards at the end should certainly be updated on GCD.
-
Uploaded Super Duck 16 from a JVJ's coverless comic scanned by Rangerhouse. I could not find any information to confirm the issue # on the Net . In the past, I have seen or read a Super Duck checklist somewhere in a fanzine. I'll check my RBCC's and comic fanzines from the 60s and 70s to see if I can find any information. I hate it when I can't remember things, must be gettin' old ;)
-
It's a rangerhouse book and scan. JVJ does not have any Super Duck books.
-
Thanks Movielover. I got my wires crossed while editing. Can Admin remove the JVJ in the file name please. Sorry for the error, I was working across several directories and was asleep at the switch. :(
-
Thanks Movielover. I got my wires crossed while editing. Can Admin remove the JVJ in the file name please. Sorry for the error, I was working across several directories and was asleep at the switch. :(
I'll do that for you, no problem.

Just uploaded a coverless Zoo Funnies from a Rangerhouse scan. Based on GCD and DCM uploads, it appears to be either issue 4 or 5. On the DCM directory the two series are mixed with some of the scans marked as v1 or v2.
Even tho both series are noted as Volume 1 in the publisher's information, would it be possible to change the scanned titles to a standard format such as:
1945 series as - “Zoo_Funnies_v1_001 to Zoo_Funnies_v1_015”
1953 series as - ”Zoo_Funnies_v2_001 to Zoo_Funnies_v2_013” :-/
-
Thanks Ed. I'll be looking into this.
-
Just upped a version of Pop's Zoo Funnies with covers added from Heritage. Hope that helps.
ETA: Blast that. It's the wrong volume and the wrong cover. Don't add it.
-
Uploaded a different version of Red Rabbit #11 from scans by Rangerhouse of a coverless book. Fills for the missing pages are from an earlier Freddyfly and Yoc scan. Opps- forgot to add that it was a different version in the summary. I did have it in the file name. Can admin add the note? Sorry.
Artwork by Harvey Eisenberg ??? The issue look's a lot like his Dell Tom and Jerry artwork and lettering. I really do like the lettering... brings back memories of reading my Dell comics on a lazy summer afternoon under a big oak tree ;)
-
Thanks very much CB, it's now up.
:)
-
Uploaded two comics from the Don Ensign Memorial Collection scanned by Rangerhouse.
Master Comics # 61 & Catman # 16 (Australian Version).
Enjoy
-
Both are now up.
:)
-
Uploaded Catman 15 for the Don Ensign Memorial Collection . I tried to give the pages a standard look using a template that aligned the page to the left. Not sure if it works well on all readers, but it seemed to keep the page centered better when scrolling through the scans.
-
Just uploaded an ACG comic, HA HA Comics # 82 that I found in a local book store at a very good price :D I did a quick check on DCM and didn't see a copy, so I scooped it up for scanning.
The artwork reminds me of the Dell comics of the 1950s. I see similarities to Jack Bradbury and Al Hubbard's art and according to the GCD, both of these artist worked on the series.
Ed
-
Many thanks Ed, it's now up!
-
Just uploaded Lucky Duck # 8 with some nice Irv Spector art. I really enjoyed seeing his work again and I hope DCM fans will find the other Lucky Duck comics from this series. Per Overstreet notes, Harvey Kurtzman tried to hire Irv for Mad # 1, Judging from the Lucky Duck comics, he would have been a good choice ;-)
I have Super Duck # 32 that I will have scanned and uploaded late this week.
-
Now up.
Thanks!
-
Just uploaded MLJ's Super Duck #32. There's a inside joke on the splash page of one of the stories. I forgot how wild and crazy Super Duck comics were..... preempting MAD magazine by a few years with crazy actions :D
-
And it's now live, thanks Cbpop.
Geo
-
Uploaded Prize comic Justice Traps the Guilty # 37. Odd number of pages (44) noted, not 32 or 52. GCD has a ? for the number of pages, but the stories appear complete. :-/
-
Thanks CB!
I looked and JTTG were 44pgs from #29 to 47 with a couple oddballs in there.
-Yoc
-
Just uploaded a fixed version of Justice Traps The Guilty # 37. Sorry about the error. I added "fixed" in the title. I also found that my shift key and number keys weren't working right. When a day goes bad, it seems to keep on going down hill :'(
Ed
-
DC did the 44(40+cover)-page thing too, during the transition in the early-mid-'50's from 52(48+cover) to 36(cover+32)
-
Just posted another Prize comic Justice Traps The Guilty (#68 ) to the FTP server. Back to a "normal" 36 page comic ;)
Ed
-
Thanks Ed!
-
Uploaded Young Romance # 2 and 3. Unfortunately the four center pages from issue # 2 's story “Dangerous Romance” are missing.
Both issues have some excellent early Simon & Kirby and Bill Draut artwork. Bill Draut's art is another favorite artist of mine and his early work reminds me of Lee Elias who did a lot of the SF comics that I enjoyed reading growing up.
-
I agree totally Ed.
Both will be going up in the near future.
-
Uploaded another Prize Comic, Young Romance # 6 with more Simon & Kirby and Bill Draut artwork. These early books really set the standard for their art and story telling... just saying ...it's a different read from what I would expect from a “romance” ;)
-
Agreed! And your edit is now up.
Thanks Ed!
-
Uploaded another JVJ Prize romance comic-Young Romance # 7. Taking a close look at the artwork, you can see the roots of Kirby's DC NEW GODS characters in the faces of the players in these early romance stories. Then again, staring at a computer screen can play tricks on your eyes ;D
Happy Birthday DCM and GCD... keeping the history for another generation!!!
Ed
-
Thanks for the upload Cbpop.
Geo
-
I found an addition to the small publishers section of DCM that I will scan and upload later this week (May4) . It's part of the Catechetical Guide Comics group titled TOPIX from January 1948-vol 6 number4 [#54?] I didn't see an issue of TOPIX on DCM but found another issue on CB+ that I can upload to DCM as well. The comic is in fair but readable condition. I hope it will hold together for scanning :D
Ed
-
We'll be on the lookout for it Ed when it shows up.
Geo
-
Uploaded to small publishers – Topix Vol 6 Number 4 from January 1948, which I think is #54. Published by Catechetical Guild Educational Society.
I found another copy of Topix on CB+ uploaded by Blastaar that can uploaded or did I miss finding it on DCM?
Ed
-
Thanks Ed.
Feel free to upload it. The Search feature should have turned any up if you tried it and didn't find it.
-Yoc
-
Will do.
Ed
-
Thanks, CBpop! I always upload everything here and often forget DCM, so I have no idea how that stitch got dropped. I may have another Topix issue that I'll try to get to soon.
-
Thanks for those so far blastaar.
Geo
-
You welcome blastaar, I 'm glad I found it. Thanks for the scans, I know how easy it is to drop a stitch, I've dropped more than I care to admit. ;)
Thank you for your work with JVJ and all of the great books that have been added to the site. I have really enjoyed the time spent in reading and re reading these childhood treasures.
I look forward to any Topix you may add in the future.
Happy scanning :D
Ed
-
Uploaded a complete and larger version of Harvey's Black Cat #47. The first of several from a collection of long time comic collector and friend Paul W.
-
Many thanks Ed to you and Paul W for sharing a nice new complete version of this one!
-
Ageed, thanks for the new shares Ed and Paul, and for sharing your collection.
Geo
-
Uploaded another JVJ Prize romance comic-Young Romance # 19. In the works is an Atlas BLACK KNIGHT # 1 Vol 1 – May 1955. Not sure if it is PD and where it would be uploaded on DCM if it is.
-
Thanks Ed!
No, nothing from Atlas / Marvel is in the PD.
-Yoc
-
All the Kirby romances have been great.
-
Just found Harvey Dotty Dripple # 22 to scan. Didn't see it on DCM will scan and upload later this week.
-
Had a little extra free time today so I scanned and uploaded Harvey's Dotty Dripple # 22 from February 1952. The similarities between Dotty and the Dagwood strip makes one wonder why they weren't sued ;)
-
Go figure on that, there were others I've seen that meet that. Thank you for your upload, it is now live.
Geo
-
Just uploaded another Rangerhouse scan of a Titansfan comic- Marmaduke Mouse # 30. The front cover PhotoShoped reconstruction of torn corner, I couldn't find a back cover ;-(
Thanks titansfan for the comics and another great scanning job by rangerhouse!
-
Now up, thanks CB!
-
Just found CRIME DETECTIVE V 2#9 Jul-Aug 1951 at the Mid Atlantic Nostalgia Convention in Hunt Valley Md today. I'll scan it this weekend
I hope to find a few more missing books tomorrow. Anyone coming to the convention, look for the Solar Guard display and look me up. I'll be at the display or digging in the comics bin ;)
Cadet Ed
-
Congrats Ed!
:D
-
Uploaded Crime Detective Comics Vol 2 # 9..... Finally :D. A bit “crisp” with dark pages ready to deteriorate to dust ;) Too dark to adjust the color without changing the look of the comic, sorry about the dark look.
The last story “Ernest the Actor” looks like Gil Kane art. Jerry Bails' "Who's Who of Comics" list Gil as an artist for Hillman's Crime books during this time period. Sure looks like his work for DC (Star Hawkins) and his newspaper strip Star Hawks.
Ed
-
Thanks Ed, now up!
-
Uploaded Puppetoons # 8 from the JVJ collection, will have Puppetoons #13 uploaded soon. A different type of page layout... some of the art going to the edge of the page, a real freewheeling look. ;)
-
Thanks for issue #8, a comic dated the month I was born.
-
Glad to help out a fellow baby boomer ;) And thanks to JVJ and RH for the scans ^-^
-
Uploaded George Pal's Puppetoons #13 from the JVJ collection. Enjoy
Ed
-
All taken care of CB, up and live now.

Uploaded from Titiansfan collection Marmaduke Mouse 38. Some minor damage to last story in book. All stories appear to be complete, missing (?) two pages, only 34 scan pages. Could be missing text and/or ad pages.

Now up, thanks Ed!

Uploaded Life Story #10 from the JVJ collection and scans by Rangerhouse. Sorry to take so long, but I wanted to correct some of the damaged pages in the Wally Wood story. Squaring off the pages and removing some of the stains took more time than I anticipated.
Kudos to Rangerhouse for scanning the pages, they appeared to be brittle and delicate. I'm sure they wouldn't have survived a “standard” scanner.
-
Thanks CB,
Now up
Which is the Wood story? Sorry, I don't see any myself.
-
I'm not the best at spotting artist, but the women in the last story ,“Foolish Obsession”, look like they could have been drawn by Wood. However, it could be some good swipes by another artist or the story could have been finished by another artist. The opening splash page, page 9 first and last panel, and a few poses throughout the story look like classic Wood, but the rest of the art in the story doesn't :-/
Checking Jerry Bails Who's Who website, I found that Life Story was a book Wood worked on. Wally Wood was noted for being slow and meticulous in his artwork and this could have been a layout by him and finished by a house artist or it could just be a good imitation. I thought I would try and clean up the pages for a better look. The GCD didn't have any information on this issue. Open for suggestions :D
-
Hi CB,
I'm no expert either and the terrible print job certainly doesn't help either. But I'm leaning towards Wood swipes more than pure Wood.
It's be nice if someone else could voice an opinion.
-Yoc
-
Hi Yoc,
I would agree, the first panel on page 9 of the story sparks a memory of a Wood story, but I can't place it. I know there are Wood checklist on the net, I'll see if I can find a reference. Love the research ;)

-
Thank you Gentlemen for your work on these. CB I don't know the answer to that, JVJ might be able to answer it though for you.

Just uploaded, three Girls Fun and Fashion Magazine (issues # 46 to # 48) , a continuation of the Polly Pigtails magazine. Thanks to Sooth for a great scanning job, it made the edits a lot easier.
Primarily a girls magazine with a few comic stories, including the Polly Pigtails comic, celebrity profiles and a “ Life of Jack Benny” comic ( for those old enough to remember radio ;) An interesting look into the world of pre teens of the 1950s.
Ed
-
Remember Jack Benny? WELL!
-
Wow! I never knew that there was a Jack Benny comic!!! Was this a regular feature or a one issue story?
I LOVE Jack! Had I been born when I was due, we would have shared the same birthday. I always tell people (or at least those old enough to get the joke) that I'm a proud graduate of the "Jack Benny School of Finance!"
-Eric
-
Hehe, I'm betting more than a few here know of Jack Benny... or the Warner Brother mouse cartoon with their real voices.
-
Two more Parents Magazine issues uploaded: Calling All Kids # 9 and Calling all Boys # 11. Scans by Soothsayr with my edits. On several of the stories and single pages, I tried to remove the “spine curve” that occurs when a book has a tight spine and a flat scan is difficult. Not difficult to do, but time consuming with some good results. It's all in the eye of he beholder ;-)
Enjoy
Ed
-
Thanks for all your work Ed. It's more than I would want to do.
-Yoc

Uploaded 3 issues of Hap Hazard Comics to Ace Publications directory. Not sure who artist may be, but Warren Kremer's ( Harvey comics Richie Rich, Stumbo, etc) first title at Ace Publications was Hap Hazard as noted by several on-line sources. Could be his work???
-
Now up! Thanks CB!
:)
-
Re uploaded Hap Hazard Comics #14 with Fixed page order. A wayward dash was on half of the pages causing the reader error, Sorry for the problem.

Uploaded issue 2 of Parents Magazine's Calling All Boys. Another JVJ book added to DCM. I inserted two blank pages as a marker for future updates. :)
-
Uploaded Calling All Kids #23, updated from an original scan by Narfstar. I added the missing back cover from a Soothsayer scan of a JVJ book and JVJ's notes. Page 9 of original scan is clipped at the bottom of the page with some scanner distortion at the top. Per JVJ's notes – 2 of 4 puzzle pages are missing. I couldn't find a better front cover, so I PhotoShopped the scanned cover.

A GE Adventures in Science book OUR PLACE IN SPACE uploaded. Book and scans by
Kracalactaka, who was kind enough to let an old Space Cadet do the edits, thanks K Ed
-
Uploaded 5 GE Adventures in Science educational comics of the 1940s and 50s, scans by Ger Apeldoorn, edits by me.
A little Internet research found another file on CB+ ( The Story Of Light 1957] APG-17-7) that I will upload later.
The GE webpages have information and links to several missing books from the series - General Electric (https://www.wattpad.com/user/GeneralElectric) - ge-comics-place-space/ (http://www.gereports.com/ge-comics-place-space/) . GE has revised the originals and have several reissues and new comics linked on the above pages.
I standardized the file names using the year date and APG/PRD numbers in the file name to help with identifying reissued books that had either different story, different art or both. The GE site stated there were 6 original issues by George Roussos ( Batman/ Marvel) but there may be more because there are at least three comics mentioned on the GE website, which are missing from DCM. Did George Roussos do the reissues?
1- Adventures in to the Future – 1952
2-More Power to America Special – 1950
3- The Littlest Giant- ??
Reissues with different art and little changes in the story lines add to the difficulty of identifying different comics. Inside the Atom ( 1948 and 1955) and Adventures in Electricity (1946 and 1950) are two examples of reissues with changes.
The comics were published by General Comics Inc (1948 – 1950) and Pictorial Media ( 1955 – 1959) and were distributed in Canada, maybe other venues as well. This is more information than most would want. :D Only a completest would worry about different versions, but that's the fun of research .. right? I hope this will stimulate more research related to a small part of comic history.

Uploaded different version of Captain Science #2 from a Rangerhouse scan of a JVJ book with two center pages missing. I re edited two pages from the bhc scan which completed the third and fourth story.
A Mystery!!! Checking GCD, all of the stories are complete and my guess is that the missing two pages are either the required text pages by Postal Regulations, ad pages or the two missing pages from the first story??? The first story's last panel directed the reader to turn to page 18 which falls in the center of the missing pages from the JVJ boook and the bhc scan did not have the missing pages. Anyone have any idea what the missing two pages may be?
Ed
-
Now up!

Uploaded another Fawcett from Paul's collection. Captain Marvel Adventures 21 all paper scan to replace the fiche scan, with a bcfrom HA.com.
The IBC was scanned from Paul's copy however someone cut the cards off the back leaving ½ a page. I photo-shopped the description for the cards with the paper scan from Paul's copy. I think I have the correct wording for the cards but it was difficult reading the fiche. Any spelling errors are do to my poor eyesight. ;D

Now up, thanks very much to Paul and CB here!

:)
-
Uploaded a larger scan version of Captain Marvel Adventure # 22 with replaced fiche page. Scanned book from Paul's collection and some fills from dsdaboss scans. I had to retype the IBC trading card information, dsdaboss scan was too blurry for easy reading and Paul's copy had the cards clipped.

Up and ready for downloading.
Thanks CBpop for your work on this.
