Yeah, the other set was too small and sometimes hard to make-out as to what I was supposed to be seeing ... "Is that a smiley or frown?"

Wow, looking good though as I'm about to head off for work only had time for a quick look to start with.

First thoughts are to change the main comic pictured in a few of the catagories -St. John and Quality being a couple that stood out, as they are the same as the 'other place' and really we should be seeking to establish our own identity over here.

It's a work in progress Nigel.
And we will need those publisher intros redone too at some point.

Hi everybody...

I discovered the new site, and found out that my account already existed.
But I had already registered with the wrong name "citlatras". So don't worry, that's me too.

Glad to see you all here Aussie, Yoc, Zog, etc.
I left the other site asking myself  where everybody had gone.

Hey! you duplicated everything! Good work.
I am trying to download something to see how it works.

Title: Re: Welcome to the DCM
Post by: phabox (RIP) on March 30, 2010, 06:12:35 AM
I Think at the end of the day the attraction of the 'other place' was not just all the great old comic books to download but the fact it was such a friendly place to hang out and rap about comics and other stuff and even when people did not always agree on something there was never any bad feeling.

Though the comics can still be found elsewhere (sometimes -lol) IMO the old atmospheare has now long gone from that place and it is my greatest hope that the old community feeling since lost there will be restored here.

I had the same feeling, Nigel. It is the people who made the place, not the site.
The old place is like empty now.

 OK, I'm here!

For those of you who don't recognize my avatar, I'm DHFH.  I'm the guy who started this whole site's naming contest!  (Though, the fact that the site already had a name planned kind of  put a damper on participation.)   :P  ;)

I feel it necessary to introduce some more of our new smilieys:

 :D , >:(,  :-[,  :o,  :),  :-\, and  Monkey

Patterned after the 7 dwarfs.

(TO Admins:  the Monkey smiley above has been faked.  The button doesn't work.  Has smiley 26 been deleted?  Is history repeating itself?  ... Oh, the whole site is history repeating itself...  ;))

DHFH

PS. What is a "Tongue Wink", anyway?

Ahh, it's such  a pleasure to be among friends at this brand new and at the same time somewhat familiar looking site.  Great job getting it up and running guys.  And isn't it utterly fantastic to have our for too-long missing friend and colleague Yoc with us again!!!  Good to see you Yoc!   :D  Looking forward to anything we can do together.

I'm promising myself (again) to upping the level of my posts here a bit more on the messageboard and of course I'll be sharing my own scans and other collaborations occasionally as well. What's important though is that we have another opportunity with special thanks to Zog to create a warm, friendly meetingplace.

Since the problem has been fixed, the excerpt above no longer makes sense.
Earlier today, the smileys were showing up as text-only so the above read:

Quote
that the site already had a name planned kind of  put a damper on participation.)   Tongue Wink

I feel it necessary to introduce some more of our new smilieys:

Cheesy,  Angry, Embarrassed,  Shocked,  Smiley,  Undecided, and Monkey

Patterned after the 7 dwarfs.

PS. What is a "Tongue Wink", anyway?

Which makes a little more sense (And should preserve the original intent for prosterity).

Well, this is the first forum I have ever been a member of without registering--drafted into a forum, what a concept. But since I'm here, I'm glad you exist but I do find it a bit bizarre to be logged into 2 forums at the same time with the same user name and password. I do enjoy the comics and was despairing of the bandwith problems of the other site. The more places these precious comics can be stored and made available online, the better. I wish you well.

Thanks to the champions who've stepped in to replace those who've chosen to fix that which had not been broken.  This type of thing has occurred to other free sites which sought to restrict membership with usage or contributory plateaus, and in each case the clone sites were safe from legal action simply because the posted work was not copyrightable.  Which is why it is a very good idea to rewrite all of the introductory material on the companies and individual titles.  Some of it was wrong to begin with (such as lumping Stanhall into the Stanley Morse group of titles; they were unconnected), while some had anachronistic information.  For example, almost all of the write-up for Quality's BLACKHAWK had nothing to do with their version but was taken from DC's '80s-era revamp (courtesy of Howard Chaykin): the Quality Blackhawk was not Polish, was not named Janos Prohaska (actually the name of a '50s-'60s Hungarian actor who specialized in dressing up in animal costumes for TV and movies http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0698512/, most notably, the Cookie-Eating Bear on late '60s episodes of the ANDY WILLIAMS SHOW) but was named Bart Hawks in a 1956 Quality text page, and none of the Blackhawks had last names.

Have you resurrected the link page listing all the newly posted issues?  If not, perhaps you could be so kind as to begin by backtracking to the beginning of March, or at least the point at which the download restrictions messed up everything up?  For those of us with a minimum of freetime, the link-page was a boon which obviated any need to do a daily search through everycompany's listing.

Good luck with the new/old site!

Actually the Quality Blackhawk was very much Polish -- at least originally.  Read the origin story in Military #1

Gee, this is like coming home.  Thanks for inviting me.  I see a lot of old friends but for those here I haven't corresponded with, a brief introduction.  I was born in 1928.  I enjoyed comic books and pulp magazines as I was growing up, but thought they were dying out by 1948.  (It definitely looked that way by the early 1950s.)  I was drawn back to comic books in 1977 when I happened upon Stan Lee's "The Superhero Women" and started buying comics again.  Then all the publishers I really liked (like Pacific Comics, Comico, First Comics, and Eclipse) failed in the late 1980s and the horrible, horrible art at Marvel in the 1990s convinced me comics again were about to fail.  I was wrong again, but fortunately I started finding like-minded fans on the Internet and was able to read again (or sometimes read for the first time) the great comic books of the aptly-named Golden Age.
Best of luck with the DCM!
Darci

Hello, thanks for the email. Happy to jump on. I'm not sure what's all going on and not sure I want to get into the politics of it, having been confused by the bits and pieces I read elsewhere but pleased to participate.  I notice my on line name and password from another site are accepted here.  Makes life easier for me.  I've already found a couple of links that bear further investigation.  I'll try not to be so argumentative (if that's possible)  Grumpy old men are like that, I'm afraid.  Let's all keep in mind - COMICS ARE FUN.

I got the notification of this new site in my Spam folder and didn't know what to make of it at first. I have been getting fake e-mails from Blizzard about my account there so I thought at first that this might be something similar.

I'm glad I was proven wrong! The new sight looks very nice and I hope to find many new and enjoyable titles here!

But what I really want to say is: Thank you so much for all your time and effort.

Sorry for my late arrival, it took awhile before this site's existence was communicated to me. Good Luck with the new site. It is important to have multiple sites out there. I know there are a few more out there as well. While it is not duplicating efforts, it is important to have the books out there for all to download free. I am happy that DCM continues this tradition. GAC continues to provide free books for all and looks forward to working with everyone in the comic community. GAC will not be static, right now the two sites look very similar, so it is difficult to see the need for both when both are doing the same thing.

Nevertheless, new features will come to GAC, and we should all work together.

Nice to hear from you Janus. We all look forward to seeing seeing GAC grow even more and branch out into new territory, although some of my fellow admin seem to be having trouble finding words to express themselves. We will likely be changing our appearance a bit to solve the similarity problem although otherwise we intend to stay with what we all love Golden Age comics. Good Luck with the site updates.  :)

I didn't see an invite either, but I found it by navigating through the Not GAC message board.  I had just finished reading some of the history of what went on over the last few weeks and so was very happy to subsequently read that this site was created.  I've been working hard on my American history pop culture site www.authentichistory.com (http://www.authentichistory.com) and so I've been out of the comics loop for awhile.  I'm now on spring break, so I intend to scan a few comics.

I posted this in the intro section, but it seems this area is getting the most traffic, so I'll post it here too:

Appreciate the invite, Yoc!
I love it here.
I apologize for not getting back with you sooner but since our last conversation, my brother, David passed away at the age of 58.  It has been very hard to get back into my usual habits but I am trying.  I miss him terribly.
The Fiction House books I mentioned to you that are not yet scanned are still here and upon a recommendation by you of a very trustworthy individual, I will be more than happy to make them available for scanning.
General Question:  Does anyone here collect or have any comic book (not sci-fi) fanzines from the 1960's?
I am cataloging them at my blog: http://chainlettersfordisturbedchildren.blogspot.com/.  I haven't posted there in a bit, but as I said I'm still trying to get back to normal.
Any help here would be appreciated.
Thanks to everyone and I'm looking forward to the future here!

I know the feeling, Chris,
my brother-in-law just died suddenly a couple of months ago at 59. Total shock and raw disbelief still reigns. My sister just visited today and it's still so very hard.

I have some 1960s fanzines, but probably the later and the more common ones. Also have some early 1970s zines, too. I used to publish GEORGE, The Fanzine Review magazine back in 1971, and I've never thrown anything away. Yikes, but that makes me feel so old...

Hope you're stabilizing.

Peace, Jim (|:{>

Most  Katy Keene comics had a page with costume cut-outs with which to clothe a Katy Keene doll cut-out.  Also, some pages featured costume designs send in by readers.

It's not PD and therefore not on this site, but almost all issues of Sugar & Spike had the "Pint-Size Pin Ups" paper doll page.  Which, of course, just helps to make those already scarce books even harder to find intact....

Can't believe it!
This really works. Fantastic. Wonderful. Sensational.
Found you browsing around the internet for pre-code horror comics.
As a diehard EC fan I stumbled (some months ago) across the marvelous TALES TOO TERRIBLE TO TELL by Mr. George Suarez.
(Is he still around somewhere?, can't find the man...)
Since then my appetite for pre-code horror is growing in a quite dangerous fashion.
 ;)
He hooked me up with artists like Rudy Palais, Don Heck, Bob Powell, Matt Baker, Lou Fine etc.etc.
Now I can go looking for them in your archives. Thanks a lot.
All the best from the city of Cologne!

One point :  We only host Public Domain books here, so don't expect a lot of famous characters to turn up.  A few fairly big names are around, though.

And welcome again to those passing through.  Just so you know, we don't expect you to actually tell us about yourselves, and you're perfectly welcome to just jump into any conversation or start your own if the topic fits in.  Don't be afraid that you're not "important" enough to contribute--like in all forums, the folks who look important now (with a handful of notable exceptions) got there from anonymity by getting involved.

This is what I found: http://www.boingboing.net/2010/09/08/the-joy-of-the-digit.html
Not really much of an article, more of a simple mention, which apparently is enough to drive people here.

;D Hello from a new member. I found your site from a link at BoingBoing and your site is a treasure trove of wonderful things. I vaguely remember the 50's and being severely disciplined for filching a comic from a drugstore rack (with my mother in attendance) when I was about 5. That put an end to my budding life of crime and comics reading. I did become a rabid S/F reading fan though. I started keeping an eye peeled for older comics on-line about two years ago because I stumbled into a few and they were so cool. They are like a lens into an alien culture. I don't have any paper comics to scan and I have few older comics in digital form. Your site is amazing! I won't be uploading but I sent you a small donation and will do so again. Thank you for preserving this extraordinary treasure.

Hi - I just joined this site.  It's amazing - I never saw so many golden Age comics!  I came here following a link from the Comicopolis website
www.comicopolis.ning.com   I'm from Birmingham, England.

Great to be here - surrounded by kindred spirits.  My first love is actually the Silver Age, but there are plenty of earlier comics here that I never saw before that I shall really enjoy reading. Thanks for making this facility available.  One question - are there any women members - or is collecting comics strictly a male occupation?

There are female members - one is an admin and co-founder of DCM.   But there aren't that many.
If you check the More Stats area at the bottom of the forum homepage you can learn a lot about or numbers including a 22:1 male to female ratio.

Enjoy discovering all the goodies!

Hello. This site is great. I'm trying to find some comics I remember from when I was a kid. When I was about 9 years old, in the early 60s, there used to be second hand shop where I'd get old raggedy comics from the 50s. Does anyone else recall a 1950s science fiction comic (probably Charlton) in which one of the stories showed two spacemen searching for a fabulous space city of gems and precious treasure. They crash land and, to their amazement, find the wonderful city they've been searching for. Then they remember the legend said that you can't find that city until you're dead. They look at each other saying, "But we're not dead...  ...or are we???"

Another one I'm searching for had a story in which giant robots, probably drawn by Gil Kane, roamed the land.

I'm always looking around for any reference to these two comics and a third one I always remember (also probably Charlton or maybe E.C.) where a spaceman from the future falls through a timewarp and ends up begging for pennies on a 20th Century street corner. Ring any bells?
Title: Re: Welcome to the DCM
Post by: jfglade on March 05, 2011, 08:59:56 PM
Not of those three stories ring any bells, Spec, but I have my own list of fragmentary memories from comic book stories from 1953 and '54 as well as a few post-code stories that I'm looking to identify. I have actually found three obscure horror stories I remembered to one degree of another among the mass of material here, as well as a Ghost Rider story and an Atomic Mouse story. All I can tell you is keep searching and wish you good luck.

 Take care,
  Jon Glade

L'il Abner (Al Capp)
Our Boarding House (Ahern)
Krazy Kat (Herriman)
Little Annie Rooney (Nicholas Afonsky/Ed Verdier)
Skippy (Percy Crosby)
They'll Do It Every Time (Jimmy Hatlo)
Ginger Meggs (Jimmy Bancks)
Yellow Kid (Richard Outcault)
Superman (Siegal/Shuster)

Is this a good place to start?  We are looking for tips.  We need files that are hi-resolution (200-300dpi).  We will clear rights with publishers where needed.

Thank you for any advice!

Hi, I just joined 30 minutes ago, and am very pleased to have found this place.

I am 69, have been reading comics in one form or another for about 65 years (I count having my big brother read them to me as reading them) and am still going strong.   I know US comics best, followed by European (mostly published in French), and Manga (in English or French), and I am still finding new things, some of which even though new to me are as old as me, my latest discoveries being the amazing Powerhouse Pepper by Basil Wolverton and Intellectual Amos by Andre Leblanc.  My tastes are pretty eclectic, but I kind of like anthropomorphic comics like the Nikopol Trilogy or Blacksad and guys in red suits like Flash and Dr. Solar (and of course, Santa).  Aside from comics I like to read Literature, classical and modern, mostly prose but some poetry.

Hi, I have joined a few days ago, as I was looking for the content of issues from the Daredevil Comics series (by Lev Gleason).

I am from Italy where – as you probably know – we have had almost no translated edition of early Golden Age comics.
Silver age Marvels started to be published with a 10-year delay (or so) in the early 1970s.

I am getting increasingly fascinated by Daredevil and the work of Charles Biro, and I hope I will be able to contribute in some way.
For now, many many thanks for this effort. :)

Hi Yoc,
fine, but I also hope to contribute with some scans. I have almost nothing from the Golden Age, but I am waiting for four issues of Daredevil (prior to #50) I just purchased.

Coming to the Silver Age (I do not count classic syndicate Walt Disney by Floyd Gottfredson) I am a big fan of Jack Kirby, and of course I am really sorry the early Timely comics are so expensive. You can stretch to a Lev Gleason comic, but "Young Allies", "Marvel Comics" or "Captain America" are out of the question, unless you find them coverless… :(
I would particularly love to have an issue of "Captain America", since I personally met Jack at his Thousand Oaks home in 1991, and he was a wonderful person. I would like to know his nephew Jeremy some day.
I am also a big fan of Steve Gerber (with whom I briefly discussed via email about depression, before he got ill) and of Marv Wolfman, but all of the classic Silver Age Marvel have been among my formative readings, and I hold them very dear. :)

We would certainly would welcome any Daredevil Comics to the collection V.  Jeff Cannell just shared #7 today!
There are a few Masterworks collections of early Kirby work out.  Sadly we can't share any of his Marvel work here.  It must have been a real thrill to meet the man!
Title: Re: Welcome to the DCM
Post by: vaillant on December 08, 2011, 11:25:27 AM
@Yoc: Oh, yes, it has been.
Jack was a wonderful person, and I suspect his health was already not so good in 1991, when I visited him.
(it has also been the only time I traveled to USA).
I have the 1941 Captain America reprints issued by Marvel in the early 1990s, the volume reprinting "Fighting American", and "Sandman".
But the comic books are an entirely different thing, they give you the exact atmosphere of the moment they came out.
I also collect some pre-war italian comics publications (which were large format, over Tabloid, in some cases).

Oh I'm with you all the way on original cover to cover (c2c) scans V.

Sure, it’s also for a question of completeness. And in silver age Marvels, the mail page is also extremely interesting.
I would like to re-transcribe the interview I did with Jack Kirby, if I do I will probably contact John Morrow to re-publish it, and let the forum users here know. I was very ignorant (and I still am) about Golden Age in 1991, but there are a few questions about Jack's war experience and golden age books.
The interview came out (in English) in its original form in an issue of "Comics Interview" (thanks to David Anthony Kraft) but for some error, I presume, they reported I did it in San Diego in 1993 (while it was from the summer of 1991), but I think it can be transcribed a lot better.

Hi eismann,
what a coincidence! ;) Speaking of Goldena Age, did you know that Siegel & Schuster's Superman (rechristened "Ciclone") first appeared here in Italy precisely on the pages of "L'Audace", the historical pre-war publication which gave birth to the Bonelli publishing enterprise?

Ciao eismann,

There is nothing wrong with your English, which is better than the English of many native speakers; I understand you perfectly. There is a wealth of western comics here. Read a few of the Straight Arrow books from Magazine Enterprises which, I think, are splendid. I know a little about Zagor, who is a character I like, but I do not know Tex at all.

Superman appared by "Audace" nr. 299 (21.9.1939) but the text has been attributed to Zenobio Baggioli und the drawing to Zenba (nickname of Baggioli)
becouse the MinCulPop (ministero della cultura popolare, ministry of culture) didnot allow american comics. (Tarzan was Sigfrido  8))
But the first time it was publish in 2.07.1939 nr. 19 by "Albi Audacia"

Hi everybody my name is Kostas, I come from Greece and I've been reading comics for my entire life. I study at the University of Athens and I work part-time as a spanish teacher. I randomly discovered this site from Facebook through a DCnU fan page (yeah that's  the defintion of irony for you.) What I mostly like to read are silver-bronze age comics (I even used to collect ATLAS comics :P). Golden age stories caught my eye as fillers in these books (I loved the Captain Comet reprints in world's finest) and by some marvel golden age collections. So I've wanted to get a grip of these comics and thanxs to this site now I have a chance!  ;D

Thanxs for reading and keep up the good work you do here! Be seeing you!

Hello

I'm a returning member. I was here two years ago when the site was starting, and then a whole bunch of things happened. But I'm back now.

I'm a digital archivist and I'm building a database of reference and inspiration for cartoonists as part of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We have over 7,000 digitized animated films, 1000 artist biographies and around 125,000 high resolution scans. All of the material is in a database and cross referenced. It's a lot of work, but I have a crew of volunteers who keep the scanner burning.

I haven't scanned a lot of comic books, but I have a huge stack of golden age funny animal comics that I'd be happy to share when they reach their place in line. If anyone would like to find out more about my project, feel free to contact me.

Hi, guys.
I'm a dinki-di Aussie who has read and loved comics since 6yo - small-sized compact comic books that included titles Kit Carson, Buffalo Bill, Robin Hood, etc, regular-sized issues (The Phantom, Straight Arrow, Classics Illustrated, blah-blah), and Golden Books (Broken Arrow, etc).  As well as less "serious" stuff like Archie and Jughead.
I used to walk all over town hunting for empty drink bottles that could be sold for a couple of pennies refunds and I used that to buy / swap comics at the local "book exchange".  I just wish I had kept them all.  *sigh*
I'm sure this site will bring back a lot of memories,
Glad to be here.

Hi, I've just joined you. Found you on a link when I installed Comic Rack yesterday.
I've always praised comics - had trouble learning to read as a 5 year old with eye problems and have always said it was comics that did the trick. I WANTED to read them - unlike the boring readers of the 1950's. I'm now a retired school principal so you can see comics were very kind to me!
Very glad to see you people keeping the traditions going - it seems to me that children nowadays are missing out on the fun of comics. I look forward to exploring this site.
Cheers, Graham (from Sth Australia).

Hello from the woods of New Hampshire! I am a 61 year old male who has always loved comic books. As a teenager I used to read mostly DC comics because that's what they sold at the local general store. My favorites were Superman, The Flash, Aquaman, Metal Men, and The Green Arrow to name a few. I am a huge science fiction and horror fan and love the EC Comics. After I mustered out of the service I needed to catchup on my comic reading and started a rather large collection of sci-fi and sword and sorcery including many Marvel comics such as Conan and John Carter On Mars which I still have. This comic museum is a great opportunity for me to delve into some golden age comics. Discovering this site is like finding a treasure trove.

I read about this site elsewhere and registered.  I hope I can hold up my end of the deal.

I was born in "The Silver Age' but there were still enough people around to remember "The Golden Age" and write enough about it to peak my interest.  if there had been an internet back then and sites like this, I could foresee having gone in another direction and developed a penciling or inking career.  Alas, it was not so, so I am living this timeline.

Recently I was researching to begin a blog that I have put off for years about newspaper comic strips and was reminded of the connections between comic strips and the early comic books, which in many cases reprinted the strips.  That is what led me here.

I'm active under different usernames on the internet, so that may be the same with others here.  Real Life has gotten busy in recent months, so I may be here sporadically.  In the meantime, I'm glad to have joined up.

I'll have to find an approriate obscure Golden Age hero/ine to use as my avatar.  My favorite DC and Timely characters from that era are Doctor Fate and The Vision, but that may be too "mainstream" for your tastes here.  I have been fascinated with Golden Age Canadian comic book publishing, not because I'm Canadian, but because when I was semi-active in fandom in the 1980's, I had the privilege to corresponded with "The Map Maple" or "T.M. Maple."

Hello everyone,

I am Sumit from New Delhi, India.

It is super exciting to have finally created an account here. A few times that I tried in the past some bug prevented me from doing so.

The DCM should be fantastic for out-of-print and rare books. I consider myself a student of comics and I hope I can use a lot of what I see here in my own understanding of the medium.

Fingers crossed, I can participate meaningfully in the discussions here.

We hope you can find out interesting things about American culture of the years before 1960, Sumit. We would not presume to think that whatever small selection of material any of us might have acquired from the Indian sub-continent would in any way be representative. It is only through the combined efforts of hundreds of us, over many years, that sites like DCM and CB+ can cumulatively have a claim of representing the entire cultural picture. We have the many copyrighted blindspots, of course, but there is much to be gleaned from the Public Domain material that shapes them. And we have an amazing array of knowledgeable folks who help "fill in the blanks".

Welcome to the Museum.

Peace, Jim (|:{>

Jim and Narfstar, thank you both for your warm welcome. The CB+ tip is much appreciated.

Jim, the corpus of public domain comics in India will be meagre to begin with, unfortunately. There are not many preserved/documented works before 1953 (60 year copyright rule). Before that one would have magazines like local versions of the Punch magazine (yes, like Awadh Punch) which carried cartoons, but are mostly lost to us, or translations of foreign comics. In fact mainstream pan-India comics start with translated reprints of Disney and Phantom comics. Apart from that there are regional-language comics, which in a multi-lingual country, make collection and documentation even more difficult. Alas, we are a long way away from getting all the knowledge together. But, let us not stop trying :-)

Meanwhile enjoy the scans!  There's lots to read.

Hello to all.

Found my way here via Comic Kingdom.

Very much into comics for most of my 40 years, though gave it a miss in the 90's after it seemed that each month was the same old same old with the art progressively getting worse.
Since the internet has opened up a whole new world of comics I have began an interest in pre-sixties comics and have been collecting some of the EC Archives (which now seemed to have stopped *sniff*).

Look forward to being an active member and learning some stuff from you guys as I know little about the era (do own some Bulletman/Ironjaw reprints).

If anyone has any recommendations then let me know, I'm not tied to any one particular genre.

Welcome Monkey!
I believe I heard the colour EC Archives might be making a return under a new publisher but I don't know when.

If you are a horror fan we have a 'precode horror index' which might be helpful for finding books from 'the other guys' that really could be nasty stuff.

I'm sorry Joann, but those books are still under copy righted, so we can't share them here. All books we have here are in the Pubic Domain.
I would hope still that we have others that you will find to your liking though.

Hello Folks...I have been a member for some time but just realized I haven't introduced myself yet. I am 62 years old. I grew up in southeastern Massachusetts in a small town. I read comics under the covers when I was a "youth" and have continued off and on all my life. The village country store where I lived only sold DC Comics. Some of my favorites were The Flash,Adventure,Green Arrow, and Metal Men. I don't think I read any Marvels until I was in my 20's. Not being very forward thinker I had comic book sale in my front yard when I was about 13 and sold many comics for pennies the are worth hundreds of dollars now. This place is a real treasure trove! Now I can read the comics that were before my time and the comics of my parents generation. I especially like to check out the horror and science fiction issues. Some of the artwork is so neat. I am a huge Frank Frazetta fan.

Sincerely...John

Howdy Everyone,

I've enjoyed roaming around this sight, but I've joined for one reason.  After collecting all the Hopalong Cassidy movies (first on VHS and then DVD), all TV shows, all the books, and all the radio programs, I've decided to go for the comic books.  My plan is to help complete your collection as much as possible, as I complete mine.  I've got a few other westerns that may also be useful.  Don't know how much time I'll have for this.  We own a little property and a few horses that keep us occupied.

Nevertheless, if I don't get started, it will never happen. Joining is a start.

Best Wishes...

We always appreciate any safe additions to the collection.  If you have a title you can't find on the site best ask if it is safe for sharing.
Otherwise we look forward to your contributions!

HI, everyone:

First of all, thanks a lot for this wonderful opportunity to delve into the quaint, ancient, vintage, oldies and goldies of the comics world. I'm from Spain and completely new to your website, so I don't know whether you've got old Spanish comics (there are some very old ones around here too, obviously). Also I was basically raised up in France (until I was about nine) and therefore quite familiar with the French-Belgian comics that also go back till about the 1910's and certainly the 1920's. Is there any chance you've got any samples of those too?

In any case, thanks a lot again. I'm sure I'm in for a wonderful ride into the origins of the ninth art form here. Tons of thanks, guys.

My name is Arcadia Berger, and I write Masked Passions,  a series of text stories featuring public-domain characters like the Black Cat, Captain Freedom, Slenderman and Lash Lightning.

I'm here mainly to collect images and ideas about characters who can appear in future Masked Passions stories.

Have any of you read my stories?  Do you have any characters you'd like to nominate?

Please note that here at the Museum, I will not say anything inappropriate to a family-friendly venue, and I expect all of you to do the same.

Hi Mctutor,
I think you'd want to have a comic open on your machine, start a Skype and then share the comic screen with the others on your Skype chat.  You could  then read along together.

I know it's not hard to share any window open on your PC inside of Zoom but I'm not so sure in Skype.
They have a Help section and I think if you check here it talks about screen sharing.

https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA34895/how-do-i-share-my-screen-in-skype

Good luck with this idea,

Growing up, I wasn't "allowed" to have comics so I had to feed my desire by reading them at a neighbor's house.  ;) That's probably why it took me to so long to "discover" them! Anyhow, thanks again for creating and maintaining this site for the world to enjoy!

Hi BB, and welcome to the site.
Some things are worth the wait.  At least you finally found us.

Enjoy all the goodies!
