New Digital Comic Museum Poll!!! Are you a male or female?

I am wagering that after a few days the poll will overwhelmingly be slanted to Male.
When I was a kid I could count on one hand the number of girls in high school read comic books!
Not trying to be a cranky old man who reads comic books. Just saying that this has been my experience.
My wife of the past 34 years has always said that she can't read comics because they give her a headache!!!

I can tell you that there are a number of female members that choose to not show that in their memberships.  Hearing about the way women gamers have been treated in the past I can't blame them for keeping under the radar.
But the ratio is very male skewed for sure.

And yet, I believe female readership in the 1940s was nearly half, I'll have to dig around and find that book which has the stats. I think it was Les Daniels book on Wonder Woman.

I believe manga has a higher female readership than regular comic books.

IIRC CrossGen had a higher than average female readership than the usual American comic books of the time.

I'd say webcomics also have a large number of female readers (and creators).

I wonder how many stats there are on this through the years?

It would be interesting to hear ratio numbers over the decades.
I just read on this quite good site on anti-comics hysteria of the 40+50's some fun facts:

"A publishers’ survey taken in 1944 calculated that 95 percent of boys and 91 percent of girls between the ages of six and eleven were regular comic book readers who read an average of twelve comics a month. This figure shrank only marginally in the twelve to seventeen age category, where 87 percent of boys and 81 percent of girls read comics at a rate of seven or eight a month."

Interesting poll.  The percentage as of today is 12 males to 1 female.  I'm not at all sure it is even close to reality. Speaking from a very bias and simple view... I have 4 grand daughters and 2 grandsons and all 4 of my granddaughters love reading comics ( the boys also read comics but that was to be expected  .  My daughter is also a comic book reader, my son in law isn't (50/50 ?).  Maybe it was my influence but they all enjoy comics from the 1950s to the 1970s.  I hope more DCM members will vote, I would estimate a much higher female readership.  Just some random thoughts from an old time comic reader

From seeing the names of financial donors to the site I can tell you it isn't 12 to 1.  Some choose to use names that aren't male or female and keep that info to themselves for understandable reasons.
