This topic is directly related to the 'You can now scan comics at Washington's Library of Congress' topic also in this section - our thanks to Carl for discovering the public has access to the books and a scanner at the LOC.

I've been checking the Library of Congress catalog against what is still need here at DCM. I will be posting it as I go along.

A couple of notes- not all series are carried, and this is just a list of the catalog, the LOC might not still have these books, as some apparently walked out the door. >:(
Sending a request to the LOC will be the only way to confirm what they still have.  If you visit we suggest you prepare a list twice as long as you intend to scan just to be on the safe side.

First up, LOC books still needed on DCM from Lev Gleason
Boy Comics - Lev Gleason
   5(ifc, ibc fiche), 11(2 pages)(fiche), 13(43 fiche), 14(fiche), 24(fiche), 25(fiche), 27(fiche), 32(4 pages), 33(damaged), 35(7 pages), 36(fiche),  39(14 pages), 74(9 pages)?, 76(fiche)?
Crime Does Not Pay - Lev Gleason
   26(6 pages), 27(GM), 29, 30, 31, 35, 47, 68, 79(ifc,ibc,bc), 86(1 page), 92(2 damaged), 106(2 pages), 116(2 pages)(2 damaged), 117, 118, 128(ifc,ibc,bc), 137, 139, 140
Daredevil Comics - Lev Gleason
   16(4 pages), 19(fiche), 21(7 pages), 22(16 fiche), 23(2fiche), 27(4 pages?), 44(ifc,ibc,bc), 78(ibc,bc)
   28(36 fiche), 38(cf), 39(ifc,ibc) (These are BOUND)

I actually think that's (qualified) good news, not sad.  If a publisher with a moderately large body of work, such as Ajax-Farrell, has ZERO books at the LOC it's pretty much solid proof they never copyrighted anything in the first place and therefore all their work is guaranteed PD.

Do we know if books that are missing (in general, at least) are stolen or did the LOC dump books at some point?  I know there are a fair number of comics and pulps in the wild that have LOC stamps on the cover.
