Title: Hayabusa449 uploads
Post by: Hayabusa449 on July 15, 2015, 09:05:43 AM
Hey all, I've just uploaded my first comic scan to the Museum- a rare (but incomplete) "Canadian White" title from Bell Features!

This issue is great, including Leo Bachle's "Invisible Commando" and the Blackhawk-like adventures of "Clift Steele and The Freedom Sub."

Enjoy!

Cool!

...wait, why does it say 120 pages when it should only be 60? Did I screw it up somehow?

Hi H,
Ah, I see what you did. You are on a Mac!
You need to use a different zip file maker. The FAQ Question #11 covers this.
http://digitalcomicmuseum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1810.0.html

Once you have a fixed version upload it with this name Commando_Comics_06-fixed.zip (but without all your description I can copy it over for you) and then we can delete the 120pg version.

Never mind H,
I've uploaded a fixed version of the file (minus the Mac_OS folder) for you.

Your files are wonderful, just a bit on the large size.  I don't know what apps you used to scan or create these but if there were a way to slightly reduce the page size or jpg quality just a tad the file size would be better for sharing here with only a slight downgrade on the scan quality.

Thanks again, I'm a BIG Canadian Whites fan so this was right up my alley! :)

Sorry about the screw-ups Yoc! I'll make sure to keep the "Mac" stuff and file size in consideration when I scan my next book!

Hi H,
No harm done. Lovely scans too.
Looking forward to your next scan. If there is any doubt about the status of something you might want to scan just send me a Private Message (balloon under my avatar) and we can figure it out.

Welcome to the scanner family,

I've uploaded both. Which one will need to be removed? Please reply back on this.

The 96 page version has to go at least, but it doesn't look like either own works in my browser. What's going on? I'm using the application recommended in the tutorial!

Very nice!
Thanks H.  I've removed the 96pg version.

Not sure why your browser isn't seeing it.  They are fine on my end.
Which browser are you using?

Thanks again, it's been a while since we had a new White to share and now you've done two for us!  :)

Hmm... on my main computer it is fine, but for some reason it won't load properly in chrome on my ipad.

And don't you worry about the Canadian Whites! I've already got my eye on some cheap copies of Freelance and the like, so there'll be plenty to come in the near future!

Hmm. That's odd.
Oh, I wanted to say your zip file size was just fine.

More Whites?!  Hurrray!

Hi H,
I've been told that Bell Features books are not in the public domain.
Best to avoid those in future scans much as I hate to say it.

Thanks Yoc. Good to know I improved between uploads!

I just found that out from the guys at Comic Book Plus myself. However, it sounds like the comics WILL enter the public domain in a couple years, so if I get any "Bell" titles I'll make sure to scan them anyways for later (just in case).

Ah, I hadn't heard that about Bell.  I'm told they are owned by Canadian media company Chorus Ent.
I've had to remove the Bell section from the site.  :'(

Sure, scan them for your own reading.  They books are pulp and will only survive so long before turning to a pulpy mess!

But you've saved backups for all of them in case they do become public domain, right?

Hi H,
Oh yes, for sure. The old section is in a non-public section of the site for safe keeping.
Sadly this isn't that uncommon.  For someone to buy a book, excitedly scan and share it and learn that legally it isn't something we can share.  It's why I suggested earlier if you had others you might send me a list in a private message or email and we could hopefully avoid such nasty news.

Still I'm happy to know they are scanned even if not safe for here. All these mostly forgotten, (the Canadian whites are more obscure than almost any USA publisher) titles are deserving of scanning before they are permanently lost to age or plastic coffins.

No problem, Yoc! I don't know when I'll next have the time, but I've got at least one more Canadian comic to upload (so keep your eyes peeled for that)!
