They are on DCM now gang.
Thanks Narf.

Thanks Narf and Flatterman!
:)

Prime User put some nice westerns up at GAC come and get 'em. I don't have the time to do it all but want the books in both places. 8)
-
Paper scans of this rare book look great. Many thanks to jeffcannell
-
Wow, Great upload Narf. Inside it says it's a 'Corn Scan.'
:D
-
I have upped a couple of narstar scans for him...
Quality's G.I. Combat #'s 04 and 20, both 33 of 36 pages. WWII action, tough and gritty. A nice Pete Morisi story in one, and something that looks like Joe Sinnott work in another. Any art credits that anyone can help with would be appreciated.
- builderboy
-
When I get JVJ's books all scanned this summer I will send the GI Combats to him maybe he can ID it all. It is not a title that I collect just picked up to scan.
-
Thanks for the GI Combat scans guys. :)
-
I love these lots. When I pay less than a couple bucks for a book I split the pages and put it through my document feeder. The time saved is well worth the loss of book value since it had very little.

Less than ten bucks for the whole lot.

Thanks for the uploads guys.
:)

Jim,
Thanks for the ID's...I will try to get around to GCD to input the stories and your info...this series has not yet been given a lot of attention.
Best regards and thanks,
- builderboy
-
Yet another narfstar scan up...this time Canadian publisher Superior's U.S. Fighting Air Force #23. I have another of narf's scans from the same series, but a coverless issue...so no indicia nor # on the cover to ID the issues. I did my best to research the book from the story titles, but only about half the series carried story titles on the cover, and none of the on-line databases have much detail on the series.
Interesting enough, the issue was reprinted subsequently by I.W. in it's title U.S. Fighting Men #18. I can't get ahold of that scan, but I don't think I.W. was ever too helpful about citing it's reprint sources.
Ah well...Let me know how and where you would like me to post it...it is a gem of a book, aside from lacking an issue #.
-builderboy
-
Thanks for the upload guys.
The book is now up.
:D
-
now up: narf's Merry-Go-Round #2, cover-to-cover 52 pages. From Better Publications of Canada. Narf has a nice copy, and indicated that this was a seldom-seen book.
-
Thanks guys, going up now.
:)
-
One right up your alley, Yoc...narfstar's scan of JVJ's copy of Amazing Man #09, cover to cover with the exception of the tragically missing centerfold. I have borrowed from Darkmark's fiche copy to make it complete, but the book otherwise is a sweet piece of work.
I remember you are a big Centaur fan
-
Builderboy's edits really brought my raw scans to a much higher quality. He deserves a lot of credit. He should have a much easier time with Comic Pages and Funny Picture Stories some of them look almost new. Great to have held these books in my hands

I agree, he is definately to be commended for his edits :).
I just pointed out on the GAC, though, that this file actually contains edits of Amazing-Man #6, not #9 (assuming it is the exact same file--I haven't downloaded the DCM version to make doubly sure).
If so, the thumbnail image on the download page also needs to be changed to #6.
Later!
DHFH
-
Thank you guys for all your hard work! You make it a joy to be a fan of these old comics.
-
sorry for the confusion...in my haste, I may have attached a wrong file at upload time, but I am fairly confident that I have issue #9 to upload
...more on that later
-bb
-
Well, I have downloaded the file I uploaded to the site (to see if I did the right attachment, which I did), and have cross checked it with the GCD info on the issue.
Sorry, DHFH, but it seems to check out. There is a fantastic scan of issue #6 on the sit by Rolster...maybe you somehow got the two mixed up?
Anyways...on to Comic Pages v3 #6. Get ready!
Also, more Amazing Man paper scans to follow...
-
It might turn out not to be #9, but it's not #6. #6 has the origin of The Shark and my copy has a Shark story other than the origin.
(|:{>
-
As a mod, I DLed #6 and 9 over at GAC to check the complaint and I've made essentially the same statement there. The comic uploaded as #9 may not be #9, but it certainly isn't #6.

Sorry guys,
It seems that somehow the wrong file came up when I was looking at it this morning. My mistake!
Again, nice editing work, Builder!
DHFH
-
No sweat, DHFH, and thank you. Thank you, Jon, for investigating the issue. I did my own comparison of the scan with the data at GCD, and it seems checks out, as does the indicia.
Another of JVJ's beauties now up: Comic Pages v3 #6. Sweeeeeet book. narfstar scanned it, and gave me the privilege of editing. A labor of love with this book. Thanks to you both.
More Centaur than you can shake a stick at! And still more to come...
-
Scanning is a chore but it sure beats editing. Everyone needs to give builderboy a pat on the back. I am only able to get them scanned so fast because he takes them completely raw and uncut. He has to straighted and crop each page at the least. Some pages require photo shop although the last few have been really nice straight from the scanner. I have learned that I get better scans especially at the spine if I scan the odd pages upside down. This makes more work for bb but he never complains and I can get the scans out quickly. Down to the last JVJ book to scan now. Centaur superheroes are my favorite GA but I have to admit I do not care for the early general anthology books very much. Still some interesting stuff for those who might enjoy it.
-
I really love coming upon those Dick Ryan funny animal pieces in the Centaur anthologies. They were so unlike others of their time, with a certain sophistication in how he cast the animals in social satire. Kind of like a New Yorker version of Funny Animals.
I had never read any Centaur super-hero stuff until the Amazing Man that narf had just sent me. Wild, the way that AM cooly exterminates the enemies like cockroaches. One scarey dude.
Thanks for the kind words, narfstar
-
I am fond of the Iron Skull. Busting through walls and bouncing bullets off his head. If Henry ever scans his Wham #2 you will see the character that is my top for odd power The Buzzard. He took The Keys place as number one bumping the Key to #2. If you do not know what I mean by "bad" powers read Key Comics #1
-
This is a Whitman book which was the parent company of Dell. I enjoy BLB's. This is one of the few they tried as All Picture books. I actually like the others better with a picture page and story page alternating. May be why I also like Phantom: Generations which does the same thing. Anyone know of any other scanned BLB's. John C said this one was not renewed so PD to enjoy.
-
This book has some really nice art by Severin and Elder as well as Anthony Cataldo. A recent discussion on color registry caused me to notice that the registry on this book is excellent. They stayed within the lines most of time.
If others in the series look this good it is a missed gem. Book is all narfstar. My book, my scans and my edits which anyone with time is welcome to improve.
-
Thanks guys and my compliments to BB for his excellent work on these. I enjoy his Info pages a lot.
Keep up the great work!
:)
-
Yeah BB has worked some wonders and his info pages are cool. Last few Centaurs I have sent him should not need much photoshop so easier job for him
-
Never know what the narf may bring :P Now in the Comic House section
-
More odd stuff to come. Does anyone like this stuff? Clear the Track is coming right up. Special Agent 8 is now up missing first two pages. Jo-Joy in a Present for Santa now available. RAW scans PLEASE feel free to edit PLEASE.
Finished the good stuff from JVJ so now I have my this and that.
-
More odd stuff to come. Does anyone like this stuff?
Personally, I haven't had much time to keep up with the explosion of uploads ("Upload Explosion," worst nightclub ever?), and I like my superheroes. Otherwise? I say the odder the better!
-
Thanks John I will keep at it. Next up is Reddy Goose from Reddy Goose shoes now in the small press section.
-
I look to look at what people are downloading. There is a "market" for almost everything. Not a lot of surprises in the most popular category. I was surprised at how many people jumped at the Amazing Man fiche replacements. I am glad the new scans are being enjoyed.
-
One of my favorite war covers. It is all over skipper. But not for you who get to read the book now available.
-
As if narf needed anyone else piling on top of his heap (that's a lotta new books, fella!), here's one more of his:
Amazing-Man #17...with the contributor list including JVJ (provider of book), narfstar (scanner), Darkmark (provider of fiche copies of missing pages) and Heritage (provider of fc & bc). 68 pages of quirky goodness.
btw, thanks for the kind words, all.
narf, loved the Ringmasters and Clear the Tracks. What a time warp!
-
Thanks bb now up is Hector 2 another Archie knock-off this one with Ben Brown art throughout.
-
Nice work gents!
:)
-
I had to get to bed so I uploaded these to the ftp. Special Agent goes in Parents and Westerner in small press it is a digital camera replacement. As always feel free to edit them
-
Thanks Narf.
:)
-
Just up: narf's scan of JVJ's Amazing Man #20 from JVJ's Centaur collection.
This is another Frankenstein of a book: part paper scan (53/68), part Darkmark's fiche (13/68), part Heritage scan (2/68), but a real treat, including JVJ's index of stories and talent.
-
Great job BB! Love your first fact page.
BTW, JVJ's credits cards are done with fellow are authority Hames Ware also hence the two colours and handwriting.
Thought you'd want to know.
Now up!
:D
-
Thank you, Yoc...that is good info. I have been fishing around for a format for these fact pages, and where in the presentation of the book they should appear (last page, behind the cover image?). I would be glad for any other thoughts, those of others on this stuff. I would also love to throw a DCM logo on that page, were one available. Thank you for the feedback.
Do you know if Hames Ware worked with Jim on all of his indexes? Jim...if you're out there, feel free to chime in. I would love to have any JVJ books I work on have the same info.
-

Builderboy, I can co-credit Hames on every ID I've made for nearly 40 years. He's been my mentor, teacher, and un-indicted co-conspirator on every project I've worked on since 1972. Even if the handwriting on the cards is uniform, the input reflects Hames and his knowledge. I've tried to submit index cards for the books I send to the scanners. It's possible that I've missed some. If some don't have index cards with them, let me know. I'll download a copy and try to recreate the information for you.
Peace, Jim (|:{>
-
Thanks for the background info Jim. Nice to hear you two have worked together for so long!
BB - most scanners are scanning the cards as-is and adding them at the end of the book. I personally like them at the start but that's just me. I love the extra attention you've put on them with your version of them and I hope you'll continue to do them.
You can right click on the DCM logo on the download page and save a copy of it as a jpg that way. The smaller version here on the forum has been modified to read easier at this size. If you plan to use it at a smallish size I suggest you use the forum version.
Hope that helps, feel free to Private Message me if you want anything more,
-Yoc

Another JVJ / narfstar beauty in the hopper:
Centaur's Funny Pages v2 #04...all paper c2c. Jim, I revised the index credits and incorporated what you had told me about Hames as a co-author of the index cards. I did take the liberty of mentioning you by name rather than initials (I figured if I was going to list Hames by name, why not Jim?).
If this is objectionable, I can swap out the language. I was looking to develop something I could reuse on other JVJ edit projects.
Speaking of which, I still have 4 or 5 more Centaurs to go...one more Funny Pages, three Funny Picture Stories and a Star Rangers Funnies.
which, I guess, makes 5 :-\
I think the editing has gotten a little better as I go...hope you like the results. Thanks for letting me contribute.
-
p.s. Yoc, I didn't forget you on the incorporation of the logo. I jammed myself for space on the index card page, and did not do a fact page for this one, as I am still up on the air about the fact page placement in the package.
The purist in me wants to see the whole book, cover-to-cover from the first click, while that scholar in me wants the fact sheet (which would have the DCM logo) in a place similar to a Table of Contents in a library book.
I'll figure it out soon.
I anybody wants to give me feedback on the index card prior to making the book public on the site, I am open to critique, and will resubmit an edit. Particularly Jim, if'n you are reading this.
-
Thanks very much BB, it's now up!
The book looks good to me. Keep up the great work.
:)
-
BB your edits look great as always. Since I overloaded you Moondood stepped up to handle my recent scans. Many thanks to moondood for the great edits and putting these books up. I noticed they have already gotten a lot of downloads.
Christmas Carnival was a pain to scan and not tear completely apart. It held together a little worse for wear though with more spine splitting, we suffer for our art. Those 100 page squarebound books with art right up to the spine are not fun to scan. Gonna put it on ebay if anyone is interested in here first let me know. Anyone able to identify if it does have Kelly art? Eric?
Also Fighting War Stories 1 and Steel! a giveaway and Muggsy Mouse IW #1 one of the few unidentified reprints. If anyone has some original Muggsy Mouse books we would appreciate it if you can identify this and would especially apreciate the scans.
-

ps. here's to narf!

The only possibility I can see is the IFC, Jim, and I don't think it is. It's a good homage, but it's not WK. IMHO. Eric should know.
edit: looking at the ifc again, I'm going to guess this is Howie Post.
And good job with a difficult scan.
Peace, Jim (|:{>
-
Thanks Jim but a lot of the credit for how good it looks has to go to moondood. You can see from some of the pages how the art ran so close to the spine. Funny animal art can be fun to look at. Did anyone else notice the Klaus Nordling story in this book? And how about that great Dave Berg back cover. I like Milt Story's Shorty the Squirrel
-
I don't see any Kelly in it, myself. I do see quite a few bits which show just how pervasive Kelly's influence was at that time. I'm also not aware of Kelly doing anything for anybody other than Western other than VERY early in his career, so how he would show up at Ziff-Davis or St. John is a real question.
Still a neat book that I'm glad to have, thank you!
-
BB your edits look great as always. Since I overloaded you Moondood stepped up to handle my recent scans.
Plenty to go around, narf...no offense taken.
Jim, a thousand groveling pardons...I will fix and re-up. :(
-
I never saw any Kelly in it myself but I was waiting on better minds than mind to confirm it.
-
Another from JVJ's box of Centaurs scanned by narfstar: Funny Picture Stories v2 #2. c2c, all paper, all sweetness.
...and I managed to spell Jim's name right this time. How's that for QC? ;-)
Take a look!
-
I'm holding this one back until BB sees my PM or email.
Sorry.
-Yoc
-
sent you a couple PM's, Yoc. Thanks for the note.
-
And I've replied in another PM BB.
The scan is staying offline until I hear back from JVJ.
Stay tuned.
-
Alrighty then! Yoc's patience and assistance paid off. JVJ himself re-scanned the suspect page which had previously made it under my radar screen (sweet job, Jim...big thanks).
I have recompiled the book with the fixed page, and re-upped it for Yoc's white glove test.
TADaaahh! Funny Picture Stories v2 #002 from Oct 19-freakin'-37. Can you believe that? What a classic!
...think you'll all like it. Worth the wait and the price of admission. :D
-builderboy
-
Ok, it's now up gang!
Nice work by all involved.
:D
-
Thanks to all involved.
Did anyone besides me happen to notice that this is labeled "V1: No. 13" in the indicia? That makes ZERO sense. Pretty weird, huh? I only noticed because I flipped past it in the box looking for "volume two"...
Peace, Jim (|:{>
-
Hmm, that is weird! Yet on the contents page it's v2 #2.
The following issue has no indicia to check.
-
I did notice that the Table of Contents and indicia differed. I checked, and found that the ToC was in keeping with GCD records, so kept with that.
-

I totally agree with your and narfstar's numbering choice, bb, but the discrepancy probably ought to be mentioned somewhere in the notes below the download, perhaps?
Peace, Jim (|:{>
ps. glad to help with the one page. Last night I devoted myself to some of MY "Golden Age" purchases - 180+ issues of Life Magazine (the humor incarnation) from 1906-1909 -- all purchased last week for less than $200. Coles Phillips, Charles Dana Gibson, Orson Lowell, and thousands of others. Grist for my ImageS mill...
pps. Thanks to everybody for putting this issue into shape.
-
Right you are, Jim...good scholarship practice. I have added the note, and checked whatever other issues I had for similar instances. FPS issues v2 07 and v2 09 neither were consistently labeled in the indicias (?).
...may have been a one time phenomenon?
-
Did anyone besides me happen to notice that this is labeled "V1: No. 13" in the indicia? That makes ZERO sense.
It maaay make some sense, if you stretch a little into the world of fly-by-night business. As I think we kicked around once, there doesn't seem to be a publishing definition of a "volume," so some publishers use it for a year's worth, and other use it for a title.
If it's the latter, you'd rightly say that nobody would logically name something v1 unless they knew a v2 was coming. Except...what if the original business plan (as has been typical with websites, which has a similar profile in some ways--the medium is cheap, and a lot of creators cheap out the content) was to get a "name" worth being acquired? Then the buyer would run Funny Picture Stories v2, while they'd jump to a new trademark and wait for the next buyer.
They might then either not make enough to sell or made too much to bother selling, and retroactively changed their definition of "volume" before anybody wondered why there were thirteen issues in a one. Except the cover, I mean.
I'm not claiming any knowledge of the situation, by any means, but it seems like a reasonable hypothesis to work from, at least.
-
I remain very curious and puzzled about how they handled v2:1, John.
Considering it most "traditional" to have 12 issues in a "volume", it would have not been so unlikely to have an issue labeled both "V1:13" and "V2:1", but all logic for the actual pairing of "V1:13" and "V2:2" escapes me.
Probably a one-time glitch, as you suggest, builderboy, but it really makes me wish I could afford to see a copy of the previous issue. Isn't it frustrating that so much of comics history is being encased in plastic and unavailable to people who are actually interested in them as COMIC BOOKS?
Anybody out there got a copy to examine? If so, can you post the indicia data and the title page data? Curious minds want to know...
Peace, Jim (|:{>

Same thing that jumped out at me Jim
-
We may never know the answer, narf.
Did you ever get a chance to scrounge up a fiche for me?
Peace, Jim (|:{>

Any idea when the first issue hit the stands? If it was February, for example, they might have reset the volume with the new year.
Again, I'm pulling that out of, well, let's say my "hat," but it seems like something I might be inclined to do in their situation. What I mean is that it might make sense for some publishing reason (taxes?) to know the publication calendar year by the issue number, regardless of whether the book was launched in summer or winter, and whether it was quarterly, bimonthly, or monthly.
That logic, though, might be exclusive of my other hypothesis, though there's also the possibility that they gave up their plans of "squatting profits" with issue 12, thus making that the second volume...maybe.
-
The attached index card with the credits is for V2 #11.
As far as the discrepancy between the cover and the book, you have to remember they were printed in different places. Covers were routinely printed at one printer that could handle glossy paper and the book's guts were printed at another printer that did newsprint- and then usually sent to a third company to be bound together! I think World Color in 1955 was probably the first place to offer to do the whole thing.
Also between v1 and v2, the comic changed publishers. So the covers were printed before the switchover and the new publisher decided to use them anyway to save money. New publisher, new address, new business plan. Nothing in the cover indicia matches the indicia on the first page. Not even the copyright!
-
Good point, Bob. There is a variant form of the indicia printed on the TOC page, so 2 indicias for the single issue. I didn't do a thorough comparison of the two, but they vary significantly in content. Oddly, both cite that they hold 1937 copywrites, the ifc version by Comics Magazine Company, Inc. and the TOC version by Ultem Publications, Inc. (Harry "A" Chesler, editor).
-
All makes perfect (well, not literally) sense, and makes me even MORE curious as to if there WAS a V2:1 and how that was treated in the indicia. Still hoping someone can add that info to the discussion.
Peace, Jim (|:{>
-
Well, according to Keltner's book, the previous issue also had dual indicias and the one on the inside cover said V1 #10, while the one on the title page said v2 #1.
All this is interesting because v1 actually only goes up to #7. the June issue. There were no July and August issues.
-
I wonder if there were two more issues 'in the can'...produced but not printed. The 'Lost Issues'?
Didn't Stan Lee buy up some material that had never seen print after one of the Golden Age implosions?
-
There's always some unpubbed stuff around comics companies, and some of it's lost forever. I saw an ad for an unpublished Frank Robbins Dracula story form Marvel, and Dave Kraft confirmed that Ernie Chan drew an issue of SWAMP THING in the first run that's floating around in the ether somewhere. Many other examples to cite, but yeah, it's *possible* Stan bought some material in the Fifties that didn't get used up prior to or after the 1957 implosion...I'm not sure how *likely* it is, given that Martin Goodman had him use up that huge inventory he'd built up back then.
-
Yet another of JVJ's goodies up tonight, scanned by the narfstar, edited and posted by me, a Golden Goodie:
Centaur's Star Ranger Funnies v2 #1...first one of the series in color on the site. Jack Cole and many others serving up western-leaning features in various formats: comic, adventure and bio.
Take a peek...I think you'll like!
-
Thanks BB!
I see there are only 51 scans. Can you tell us where the missing pages should be?
Inner spreads or outer wraps?
-Yoc
-
Wish that I had a way to tell you, Yoc. The original scanner possibly would have known (narf...feel free to chime in), and sometimes, a publisher will globally number the pages of a book, but no such luck on this one.
HOWEVER, with this book, hot off the presses, the problem won't re-occur:
Centaurs Funny Picture Stories v2 #07, a c2c 68-page paper scan...just posted for your viewing pleasure. A JVJ-narfstar-builderboy production.
I was floored when I saw the Maurice Kashuba piece near the end of the book (Rattlesnake Gulch). :o Beautiful work!
-
Thanks BB, going up shortly.
:)
I liked 'Voices in the Dark' as well. Nice art and surprising colour work in both.
-
You're right, Yoc...it was the color work that set it all off. Those scenes in the snake pit were surreal!
-
I just scan what is in front of me sorry no further help
-
Since we haven't seen a book from Narf for a while, I found one we didn't have from him and here it is:
Supermouse 039
Thanks Narfstar.
Geo
-
Hide and seek you win.
Hope to get at least one of the new box of JVJ books done this weekend.
-
Looking forward to it Narf!
:)
-
And from JVJ of course now ready to be downloaded.
-
I certainly realize that there are a ton of ads for Harvey Comics in this book, narf,
but is there any other evidence that this is a Harvey company? I have NO knowledge of any other titles "Front Page" published. Do you? My curious mind wants to be precise.
Peace, Jim (|:{>
-
In Black Cat #1 there's a house ad that explictly calls Front Page a Harvey company.
-
Does anyone want a Centaur. Here is a scan that has been hidden away in the GAC ftp. This was during the time of my mom's passing and it got neglected. Well here it is with Hoover edits.
-
Thank you Narf for the upload, always appreciated, (even if it was delayed till now, we understand why).
-
Thanks VERY much Narf and Hoover!
:D
-
Enjoy
-
Power Comics #1, thank you Narf for your latest upload.
Geo
-
Yes, thanks very much guys!
-
Liberty Scouts 002 paper c2c JVJ-narfstar is now up.
Thanks Narf for it.
Geo
-
I posted a separate file with only the improved pages of Liberty Scouts 2
-
Thanks Narf!
-
Two versions of each now available in the ftp folder. One c2c the other updated pages only. All courtesy of the one and only JVJ
-
Thank you Narf, I'll be getting them shortly.
Geo

Great to get a conmplete 23! But... Two numbering errors: the leading zero puts it out of order, and it's numbered 024 not 023 (the filename is ok)

Great to get a conmplete 23! But... Two numbering errors: the leading zero puts it out of order, and it's numbered 024 not 023 (the filename is ok)
Fixed, that's what I get for up'ing books all day, and still not done with them.
I'll put/add the update files on these up on Monday.
Geo
-

:'( Hi, Still need to dump the leading zero; and also from the new partial Dynamic 24 which also ended up in the wrong folder. Hang in there!
I went through the whole folder and added the "0" to all the files so it should now show them in the correct order now. Len if you find any others without the "0" added to make it '3' digits please post up or PM me about it and I'll fix them. I thought we caught all of them by now, I would guess not. I also changed the # on the file to "23"
Geo
-
Sorry Geo I will try to remember to set up the file name correctly. Since I put my own up at GAC-UK I set it up in the folder to sort correctly myself so I do not worry about the file name.
-
Not a problem Narf, I had to go through the whole series and change them, yours were not the only ones needed to be fixed.
Geo
-
A new upload from Narf, which I put up for him since GAC has been having trouble and all his energy is being put into that at this time. Anyway here it is thanks to NarfStar for the scans and Citraltras for doing the edits on this book.
Monte Hale Western #50 is now available for downloading.
Thanks NarfStar and Citraltras for this jewel for those western fans out there.
Geo
-
Thanks Geo. I realize that I uploaded this some time ago but got side tracked and never confirmed. Oh well you got it anyway just later.
-
Here's one from NarfStar with a JVJ book:
Master Comics #42 now in full, gorgeous paper!
That's another one down folks, please enjoy.
And thanks NarfStar for the book.
Geo
-
Beautiful issue and scans. Thanks JVJ and narf! ;D
-
also in my FTP folder is an almost all paper Mystery Men 11. Only the ifc, ibc, bc and one add page are fiche the rest paper. The last couple times I tried the upload onsite would not work for me.
-
Wow, that MM11 is huge!
I'll see if the site will add it.
---
I checked and these are the same as Len's version but much larger for some reason.
I've moved it off the main site for now.
Thanks anyways Narf.
-Yoc
-
Fiche pages have been replaced by paper
-
Ok Narf, but why is it over 100mb?
I'll look into adding the new paper into Len's version and try to make it a more reasonable size.
Thanks for pointing this out.
-
Red Seal 14 uploading to the ftp. IW reprint pages by jodyanimator. Replacement pages for damaged pages as well as ad and text pages from JVJ book. IW add pages left in for archival purposes.
-
Thanks very much Narf, I'll be adding this and the others there shortly.
:)
-
Narf's massive Mystery Men 11 is now going up on DCM at a more reasonable reduced file size.
For those that want the original 141.63 MB version it is up on GAC at this link:
http://goldenagecomics.co.uk/index.php?dlid=16936
Thanks to narf for sharing this!
:)
-
OK Narf, I've added a better cover to Ranger #21 and re-up'd it for you.
Geo
-
Fightin' Air Force 11 in my ftp thanks to jodyanimator

It is now up, thanks Narf.

A JVJ book with narfstar scans and edits now in the ftp
-
It's been taken care of Narf.
Geo
-
Another JVJnarf classic for your enjoyment waiting on the FTP
-
Being taken care of as we speak, thanks for the upload Narf.
Much appreciated.
Geo
-
Thanks Narf.
You've got mail.
Holding on adding these until I hear back.
-
For your reading enjoyment. I am putting these up some are raw scans no time to edit as I wanted tdo get them all scanned. If someone would like to edit them it would be much appreciated.
Toyland 3 needs edits
Rangers 18 needs edits
Military 19 needs edits
Champ 19 scans and edits by narfstar
-
Ah, Ok Narf.
I'll take care of the edits on all of these books.
These are all JVJ scans made by you Narf?
Stay tuned folks.
:)
-
One we missed before from NarfStar:
Champ Comics #19 missing isfc, osbc and osbc. A JVJ book scans and edits by NarfStar.
Thanks NarfStar.
Geo
-
*sigh*
Narf, I was still doing edits on Champ19, that's why it wasn't on DCM.
See my Dec 22 reply above.
I've only gotten Toystory3 and Rangers18 done so far.
Rangers18 is up on Mediafire but not here yet.
The Champ version you added was the RAW scan as it appeared on GAC.
I was going to upload my edit here and just include a link to GAC's raw versions already on their site.
My Champs19 edit is done but I can't uploaded until Tue. along with Military 19.
-
The last of my edit for Narf are now up.
Military 19 is c2c in my edit filling many pages from another source.
All the untouched larger originals are available at GAC for anyone looking.
Thanks to JVJ and narf for sharing these!
:)
-
From Spotlight comes this obscure gem. It contains the one and only, not seen in over sixty years, the superhero FIREBIRD. Many thanks to Loftypilot for the edits. Now in the ftp awaiting going live. I still can not get the upload to work.
-
Thanks very much guys, well done!
:)
-
Book in my FTP contains what appears to be an Uncle Charlie's Fables but is coverless. It is not one of the five know Uncle Charlie's available here. Any help identifying it would be appreciated.
No need to add it to site. Identified as Adv In wonderland 1
-
The Woodland Adventures of Sue the Magic Manikin now in ftp Narfstar book, scans and edits.
-
Taken care of now, thanks Narf for the up.
Geo
-
In the Loftypilot ftp folder for his ever great edits is this Canadian one shot especially for Yoc and our other neighbors North of the border.
-
Now up.
Thanks very much for this narf and lofty. It's an interesting one-shot from a company I'd never heard of before.
:)
-
Thanks to Loftypilot for the edits Tom Mix 44 is in the narfstar ftp
-
It up on site thanks to narf and Dan for their work on it. Thanks again guys.
Geo
-
Thanks guys, credits added.
:)
-
Now available in narfstar ftp with lofypilot edits is the Ajax title The Rider 5
-
Done and up now. Thanks narstar and LoftPilotDan for the scan.
Geo
-
I've added your latest upload Spunky 004 to the site as I saw you post about it from another thread. Also did LoftPilot do the edits on this one, otherwise I just credited you with doing it for now?
Thanks for the up.
Geo
-
Well I got the upload to work this time so you can remove the second Spunky 4. It is all narfstar on this one.
I have Tony Trent #4 is uploading to lofy's directory for his touch
-
Thanks Narf, I'll let Lofty know as he doesn't visit the forums much at all.
You might use his direct email if you want to be sure to get his attention.
-Yoc
-
I email him directly
-
Good to know Narf. I'd hate to see him miss important info because he's not in the loop here.
:)
-
Once again because loftypilot was willing to do the edits you get to download Tony Trent 4 with great Mart Bailey art. The spine did not lay well so lofty did a good job making it look good for all once a mod pulls it out of the narfstar ftp folder. I think Mart liked the Plurtotles story as I think he put more love in it.
-
Thanks guys, it's now up!
:)
-
Cover to cover version now up thanks to Mannysquirt posting it elsewhere
-
Thanks for the up Narf, much appreciated.
Geo
-
Stanley's return to color comics was two issues of GA reprints. The book contains no copyright notice so is public domain. If anyone can identify the source of the reprints please chime in.
-
Don Winslow 54 in Fawcett with lofypilot edits
-
Thanks Narf and lofty!
:)
-
I loved "Don Winslow" #54 with the two wonderfully entertaining villains: the Snake, and Longhair. The Snake appeared in "The Return of the Snake," which leads me to wonder in which issue of Don Winslow he appeared first. He certainly seems like a post-war villain. I'm going to see if GCD has that information. I hope the Snake's first appearance is also among the other Fawcett Winslow issues available here.
Thanks to all involved in presenting that issues.
-
Your welcome. I am not really a Don Winslow fan and do not pick them up. This one was unscanned and cheap so I got it. I was surprised that it was a neat book.
-
Red Ball Comic Book 1 with reprints from True Comics. An obscure comic that would appeal to the oddball narfstar. My scans and edits
-
Thank you Narf for your up, much appreciated.
Geo
-
For those interested in romance comics there are two Young Love and one Young Romance comics uploaded in the Prize section of GAC. They are post 1960 so not available at DCM. So i thought I would let everyone here know they are available.
-
For the completist BC 4 now has the ifc, ibc and bc added
-
Thanks Narf, it's been added to the mix, so everyone can download it if you so want.
Geo
-
Thanks Narf. I've removed the other version.
-
This should make Bounty Hunter happy. A batch of near complete Big Shot comics as well as some individual stories as indicated are now upping to the ftp.
-
Thanks Narf, but we already had the near complete one already.
I've added the others. Thanks for the uploads!
:)
-
Here is a cover to cover Big Shot 83 scanned and edited by me
-
Narf,
I've been scarce of late and am in no position to criticize, but have you considered investing in a new scanner? This latest Big Shot #83 scan has pages with noticeable blurry spots. If this is your (or our) one chance to scan this comic, it is being undermined by blurred page files. If this is a scanner issue, perhaps we could take up a collection to get you a new scanner.
-
More than likely me rushing to get things scanned. I have so many books needing scanned, and it is such a tedious job. I do not know how some guys do so much so well. I guess it amounts to quality or quantity and it has always been in my nature to go for quantity is things like this.
-
If a book is in particularly nasty shape, laying a thick book or pressing down with your hand can flatten out the odd wrinkle here and there... if you are willing to risk it.
-
cover to cover all narfstar in Toby and Avon respectively.
-
Thanks Narf!
:)
-
Here is an Everett cover to wet your appetite. I do not have it scanned yet. I assume it is PD. If someone would check we can be sure.
-
Looks to be PD Narf.
-
Now available in Small Publisher from the crazy narfstar is Zany 3. Scarce title not which did not even have a cover on the GCD until my copy. Now I need to find the other 3 issues.
-
Now available in Charlton thanks to Pyramid
-
Thanks for posting that issue of "Unusual Tales." I've been trying to figure out where I read the first story in that issue, "A Matter of Luck," for years and all I could figure out was that the artwork had to have been by Ditko. The ending is truely unexpected, and I remember turning the last page when I had that book back in the late 50s and being flabergasted that it seemed like the story had no ending. Rereading it, after a very long time, the ending doesn't seem as mysterious as it did when I was 10 but it is an unusual story for its time and seems a bit like the ending of a Twilight Zone story. I'm curious to see what else is in the issue, but I wanted to thank you for posting the issue before I forgot to do so, and I haven't read (or rather reread) the rest either. Interestingly, I recognized the cover as one I had seen but I wouldn't have put the two together.
-
Isn't it fun when you stumble across a book you knew so well but had only vague memories of? And when you read it again, to me it's always 'oh, I remember that.. and that... oh, forgot that part!' hehehe.
Thanks again to Narf for the Colossus fiche as well. Here's hoping some other lost items like this show up for him! :)
-
Thanks to Pyramid for his cover to cover scans. I really like Rock's cover.
-
Dear Narf. First Kiss not in the public domain. Please refrain from uploading any. ;)
-
Moved it while I wait for the higher ups to clarify the situation. It's well documented that John Lustig bought whatever Charlton still had of the title when Charlton was selling off its assets. I think it's open to question if Charlton had renewed or not, though; and some of the later issues the would not have needed to if they were correctly registered in the first place.
With all that said, I believe even if it isn't in the public domain we may have agreed not to host it. So, like I said, waiting on the higher ups.
-
In the Copyright Office database, I don't see anything resembling a renewal for any "First Kiss" issue. Why are we sure it's still under copyright?
-
I can't recall checking that one. Aussie might know.
-
First Kiss does carry a copyright notice but I do not think any were renewed.
-
To clarify my earlier comment: I do think the book is PD. I think we (or possibly GAC) had said we would not post the scans as a courtesy to John Lustig. Which is what I'm waiting for clarification on. Yoc outranks me, so he can move it back if he wants.
-
Has anyone asked John Lustig how he feels about GAC/DCM hosting scans of First Kiss
-
More to the point, has he ever contacted anybody to express a problem? Does he reprint the actual comics as originally published? I thought he just did out-of-context panels with new dialogue.
Just to explain what I found, there are a handful of renewals for late-1950s works called "Last Kiss," but they're all songs, so there's no copyright. Seems silly to me to hold it because we kinda-sorta think we might have agreed to not compete with him, even though there's no competition...
-
Now available in Fawcett
-
Thanks for the upload Narf!
-
An odd little period piece featuring corny gag cartoons.
-
that's a odd one alright. It's not a comic really so I added it to the Misc. Fun Stuff section.
-
Talullah 2 cover to cover is up. Does anyone know anything about this book? Metropolitan printed six books. Talullah 2 was printed with Boots and Saddles 1 then they were cut apart. My guess is that all six books were printed on large newsprint then cut apart. Talullah was with Boots because part of that cover can be seen with it. The interesting thing about Talullah is that it is the only known second issue. The other five were series one and distributed together in a five pack for a dime. A second series was planned. So was Talullah 2 ever distributed? How rare is my issue?
Could it be a Gerber 9. These books do not appear in Gerber.
-
Thanks for that oddball book Narf. I hope someone can tell you more about it.

Interesting material. What I'm unclear about is how the sequential scans relate to actual pages. Is each scanned 'page' actually a two-page spread? If not, the proportions of each scan looks like a half page. Help us out here. What was the procedure with this scan?
-
These books were cut in half. This book was the other half of Boots and Saddles. Six books were printed together and cut apart. The other five were first issues and packaged together for a dime. That is what makes me think my Talullah #2 may be really rare. Wish someone knew more.
-
A Fawcett book for your enjoyment. I have not done much scanning lately so finally got around to one. Not one of the most popular strips but I am sure someone will enjoy it.
-
Thanks Narf.
:)
-
Thanks Narf.
:)
I haven't seen an issue of this series since I was eight or nine, when I found one with a duck hunting cover mixed in with some fishing and hunting magazines in a barber shop. It was obviously aimed at a different audience than most comics of the time.
-
Crime Does not Pay 112 paper scans to replace my old camera pics and Chamber of Clues 27 in Harvey now up. Issue 28 will be upcoming to complete the series.

Now Gabby Hayes Western 29 from coverless. I checked and it looks like I've uploaded about 700 comics most my own scans. I need to get a life.
-
A trifecta SD and RR are c2c while Deadwood is from coverless. I do not remember who but I think some one asked for more Red Rabbit awhile back.
These are raw and as usual I welcome that my scans be edited. It takes enough time to scan them.
-
Thanks for all the new scans Narf!
:)

Good luck with the scanning when you get them.
Geo
-
Very nice! Looking forward to seeing many holes filled on the sites!
:)
-
I paid the most for Golden West Love hope it is PD.
Notice Obie which I had to get because it is an odd ball like me.
Ajax books I tried for, PL while the others were for low price.

Fixed. I've just told Narf that anyone who uploads via the Upload File link can change the location of the file by going into User_CP on the download page - then enter Approved Files, find the scan and hit EDIT on the far right.
Inside there you can go down to Category and select the folder you want to have it shared.
You DO NOT have to reupload the entire file again.
And of course, a staff member can help if needed.
Thanks for the share Narf.
:)

narfstar scans and edits from coverless missing ifc, ibc and bc

Thanks Narf!

Produced by ACG just look at the Ed Hamilton lettering to know that.

Narf, I've added a new bigger front cover and the osbc to Fawcett Movie Comic #13.
So it's now only missing the isfc and isbc.

A-1 Comics 124 - Hot Dog #3

Now available in unsorted with issue 2

Narfstar,
A-1 Comics 124 - Hot Dog #3 is missing a page and the ibc is out of order. Just thought you might want to know.
Oh, and thanks for all these great scans.
-cooperway4
-
Narf numbered each page as he fed them in the scanner.
The copy that was on the site was in the order as he sent the raw scans.
I did the edits and upload. I don't believe anything other than the missing page is wrong with this.
Narf would know the best.
-
I will check Hot Dog.
-
The ibc is labeled as HotDog03_pg33.jpg and can be confirmed by comparing with the damage on the back cover.
-
If narf gets us the missing page we'll try and sort this out. Otherwise I think we can just keep it as is for now.
-
The ibc is labeled as HotDog03_pg33.jpg and can be confirmed by comparing with the damage on the back cover.
That part of it's been fixed CW.

If narf gets us the missing page we'll try and sort this out. Otherwise I think we can just keep it as is for now.
There are still problems with the page order in the interior of the book. The first story (pg03-pg08) are okay, but if you try to read the stories from pg09 onward, the page order seems jumbled to me. However, I've done some analysis that I think straightens things out.
If you look at the odd numbered interior pages, it looks like narf wrote the page number in pencil (presumably to help him keep track of the page order after splitting the pages). When you look at those numbers, all of the odd numbers between 3 and 33 are there except for 9. Also, if you compare the numbers to the file names, 3, 5 and 7 are on pg03, pg05 and pg07, but the remaining numbers (11 through 33) are on pg09 through pg31 respectively. Therefore, I think that from page 9 onward, the odd pages are shifted by 2, but the even pages are correct.
I've reshuffled the page numbers to fix this and read through the stories afterward, and they make more sense now, so I think I have the right page order. However there is still one page missing, between the end of the first story (pg08) and the 1-page golfing story (pg10). Hopefully the missing page 09 is an ad.
I could upload my set of scans in corrected page order, but there's still the missing page. We should probably wait for narf to provide that before uploading yet another version.
-
Wow, this title got a lot more attention than I would have guessed.
Thanks for all your work Snard. Best wait until Narf responds before uploading anything.
-Yoc
-
I will have the book in hand Tuesday. I hope the pages are still together. I ran a bunch of stuff through document feeder that day.
-
Hot Dog 3 is now fixed it was missing page nine which threw everything off
-
Thanks for the fix Narf.
Geo
-
Just put in another 60% off Milehigh order with most of these falling in the "atomic age" or in between period of gold and silver 1956-1960 or so. some will be GAC only. Once again low condition so my document feeder can get a lot done. Look for some more editing needs by narfstar. I buy em, I scan em and most of the time I edit them but some help is appreciated.

I'm sure we can help some Narf.
Let the gang know at GAC as well and suggest they let us know if someone is claiming a book.
-Yoc
-
Mile High Motherload 2 has arrived. 53 books for a little over a hundred dollars. Less than the cost of 50 new books. Some great Charlton, Ajax and IW stuff. I had thought most of it would be GAC only. Probably 3/4 will go up on DCM. Gotta get back to my books now. As Jim said when his box arrived it is time to play.
-
Hot Rods and Racing Cars 33 in Charlton
Supermouse 37 in Better
-
Thanks Narf!
-
Your new Gandy Goose 006 upload is broken, invalid zip file.
Other than that, thanks for all the new uploads coming from you ;D
-
I've made a note on the file. It's most likely just a file name error. Rename it to .cbr and it most likely will work.
-
I put another up. The cover still does not show but the preview works fine
-
Covers never reset Jim. Thanks for the new version.
-
Nation-Wide's version of Captain Atom #5 and Bernard Baily's studio did a lot of books for others but here is one of the few he published in Adventures for Boys. All narfstar all the way.
-
Thank you Jim for your latest uploads.

A reprint of War Battles 6 which I also scanned and put up earlier. Oh well enjoy

Thanks Narf, I've removed the other one.

We have a page out of order on it, it's miss numbered (032 instead of 32). Can you fix it please? Thanks.
Also thanks for your upload on this, another hole is now filled.

on its way Geo. And as usual I welcome edits I am putting up raws
-
Now up cover to cover. Please download and help identify the artists
-
Texas Rangers 7 and Freddy 19 as well as a 1919 comic Betty I picked up elsewhere. Freddy needs a lot of straightening if anyone wants to edit.
-
Narf,
I'd suggest that the first story in Texas Rangers #7, probably has the inks by Sal Trapani, the second, Random Recruit, is definitely inked by Dick Giordano himself, and that the third, Get Out or Get Shot, is what Vince Alascia inks are more like.
FWIW.
Peace, Jim (|:{>
-
What penciler are you ascribing to the TR 7 stories Jim? I am proud that I saw Giordano in the second story also. I am starting to pick up on some of his stuff. I had heard someone recognized Alascia hands. While I can not yet recognize Alascia, I have noticed strong lines in the hands that were not in the first story so I figured not Alascia. Isn't eliminating the wrong answer a good test technique ;)
-
Black Fury 3 and on the lighter side the first issue of Li'l Tomboy #92
-
Thanks narf!
-
Narf, Thanks for putting up that collection of Betty strips by Charles Voight too. I've been a fan of his work since seeing his He-Man story in Tally-Ho Comics a little while back.

re-upped this one works. Last one gave me trouble with several attempts but I thought the last attempt worked but I guess not.
-
Thanks Narf.
Best to always check the file size after all uploads. That and Preview will tell you if an upload worked or not.
-
Will be here soon, but is making its premier on the new GAC. If you just can not wait please visit the new and improved GAC at the grand opening tomorrow. I think this is my best scan and edits it is a really great looking book if I do say so myself.
-
I'll be running over to GAC tomorrow, Narf. I can't wait to download and read Cannonball 1. :D
Crash Kid! Yay!
-
No need to wait. Mark had everything worked out so NOW is the time to check it out! BTW you can use the old address and will be redirected to the new or just go there directly http://comicbookplus.com/
-
Just downloaded and read Cannonball Comics 1. You did a very nice job, Narf. Great scans. Thanks so much again for posting an issue that was on my top ten grail books.
-
I believe your request was the impetus that got me looking for it. It was always on the radar but you got the shot fired. The scans actually look better than the book as you can see by the cover condition. I was surprised that the scans came out so well.
-
Wow, I'm glad that I asked for it! :o
I'd downloaded Cannonball #2 a while back here at DCM, loved it, and was anxious to read the premiere issue. Now I'm saddened there was never a Cannonball Comics #3 (comics really seemed to come and go back in the 40's). But you really did a nice job with the book, Narf. Colors are really bright and looks as though it were published just yesterday. I'm just so happy that there are people like yourself who put all the time and energy into preserving these comics for everyone.
-
And crazy as it seems we enjoy punching out these little cultural tidbits.
-
hehe, nice Narf. This would work in the 'Splain your avatar' topic somewhere around here.
-
Time for a little love from narfstar. I did not like seeing the no files available in Comic Media's All True Romance. So I did something about it. enjoy

Not only a first but the second issue at the same time. Narf starts another new series.
-
Does the fact that I put the first and sometimes only issues of a series mean that I am as much an oddball as the books I collect :-/
Spunky inside the book is actually a kangaroo not a spook.
-
Short answer - yes. Thanks again Narf!
-
I suspect you are right Yoc :P

We're ALL oddballs here. It's only a matter of degree.

Well, duh, narf... We are NOT run-of-the-mill oddballs, that is for sure. Not do we spend TIME on funny books, we spend MONEY!

Scan now up. Unfortunately I lost Talullah #1. These Metropolitan books are hard to find and win and not cheap.

Thanks for the Boots and Saddles #1 Jim, sorry to hear you lost your bid on the Metropolis book.
I've usually have no problem with Metropolis when I buy from them and get the book I want.
Geo
-
I think he means Metropolitan the publisher.
Yep, those are pretty hard to come across. Like finding hen's teeth.

Yes Coop it is Metropolitan the publisher. I have only had good dealing with Metropolis. I had a bid for Talullah from the same ebay seller but lost it on a last second snipe.

snagged from www.archive.org in Misc Fun Stuff
-
And I moved Wonders of Wire Rope for the moment while we decide what to do with it. While I normally trust archive.org to check stuff as well, and it's not COPYRIGHT by them, this is an EC produced book and I really don't want to open that can of worms without discussing it first.
-
I don't know if archive.org checks anything. They have some new 52 comics up. I doubt that wire rope would have been renewed but it does not hurt to check.
-
Archive.org only removes when there are complaints filed from rights' holders with the exception of Movies and TV and in those instances there's a group of self-proclaimed copyright police that badger admins to remove stuff whether it's PD or not.
-
Three Ring Comics was mine. I am pretty sure it was once on site. Could it have gotten lost in one of the long ago crashes?

Australian Masked Marvel has arrived with big disappointment. I should have done my research. It is a reprint of Gunsmoke #5. At least my Calling All Kids came in also and it should be new.

Thanks ML how do you find the time. Even with the document feeder scanning all six took awhile. Document feeder is so much faster than by hand but the books come out pretty crooked as you may notice. :-\

Superduck and Peter Rabbit are now at the local jail. I have one of those things advertised on TV for fastening on buttons. It uses a little plastic thing like what holds tags on clothes. I used it to join the pages since they had been separated for my document scanner. I took some staples out of some other comics and replaced them with the little plastic things to take to the jail. This is something others may consider if they have some comics that are just taking up space. Local prisoners want something different to read.

It is finally here, not that anyone was asking. Would anyone but me seek out this obscure stuff? Well after all my middle name is obscure or is it oddball, I forget. Maybe someone with photoshop skills can take out the 3D and include a non 3D version.

Actually, I was the guy bidding against you on the Space Kat-Ets; I'm very glad it got into the hands of a fellow scanner. It's NOT an easy book to find; it's one of the three 3-D books that earns a Gerber 8 and I think it's quite possibly the rarest of those. (Although I actually think the Animal Fun 3-D, which only gets a 7, is just as scarce as the other 3.) On the plus side, I do have the other two- Super Animals and Peter Cottontail. They're already at the top of the pile, I'll try to finish them very soon.
Thanks for the book!
-
But do you have Jet Pup? Another obscure gem.
-
Thanks Jim for an interesting book.
Geo
-
But do you have Jet Pup? Another obscure gem.
In fact, I do have a copy. However, Gerber is flat wrong when it has that book as a 7: there is no way somewhere between 16 and 40% of the surviving copies are up on eBay all at once.

Super Cat 3 now up

Congrats on the new books!

Yes it is finally here the book everyone has been looking forward to. It is an oddball book that probably no one has seen before. It is one big advertisement. It is not like the shoe store comics with stories and ads. The stories are stories but also majorly advertising. Enjoy
-
Will do Jim, everyone else enjoy it to.

Eight years ago I uploaded digital pics of less than half of Gold Medal. I hoped someone would have upgraded by now. Well I guess the book is fairly rare because no one did. I came across my copy and went to scanning. 128 page square bound book is no fun so I hope everyone enjoys it.
