JC,
As far as I know all that has been scanned is already on the site.  Please be patient and see if anymore happen to show up.
They aren't a hot title though so I wouldn't expect much.

OK, I'll try to be patient, but I have a doubt: "funny animals # 9 appears to be downloaded, but I can't read it, (I have a comic reader of course) ¿what happened?

Ah, it needs to be renamed for viewing.
Right click on it and select 'rename'.  Then at the end add the following:
.cbr
Now hit enter.  It should now read fine.

I'm going to re-upload the book shortly.  If you see anymore like this let us know.
Thanks!

There are other funny animal books on the site too -
I especially like Dell's Fairy Tale Parade and Peter Wheat in Small Publishers.

Please be sure to read the Frequently Asked Questions topic here:

I don't know that I would call either Fairy Tale Parade or Peter Wheat "funny animal", Yoc.  I would call them both wonderful comics.

For non-Fawcett Funny Animals I would start with Dell's Animal Comics.

IF ANYBODY HAS "FAWCETT FUNNY ANIMALS" COMICS TO UPLOAD, THEN THIS IS THE PLACE (NOT THE FORUM OF COURSE) THIS MESSAGE IS FOR EVERYONE TO SEE IT, AND IF YOU HAVE FRIENDS WITH THOSE COMICS, TELL HIM TO UPLOAD THEM OR SPREAD THIS (THAT'S WHAT I NEEDED TO SAY), NOW I WILL WAIT PATIENTLY.

Thanks for the suggestion Eric.
I was thinking about the excellent quality of those titles more than their exact content.

JC, I hope you'll take some time and explore the other 'animal' titles on the site besides Fawcett.
And yes, if anyone has a Funny Animal not on the site please do scan them!
:)

I'm rather fond of some of Nedor's funny animals, particularly Supermouse. I have a couple of those, and a couple of issues of Goofy Comics that I think still need scanning and uploading. I'll try to get to them after I finish the Lev Gleason project I'm working on (which I hope to be able to share details of soon).

I'm doing it, I'm also taking a look to "funny films" the problem is there aren't too much, I don't know about funny animals popularity, but, to members who have funny animal comics and are watching this message whether they are from Fawcett or not, !please, do scan them! (I hope it doesn't take it too long!) !thank you!

A quick question:

Does anybody have a scan of Fawcett's Funny Animals 59?  When I first started posting about two years ago I asked if it had been scanned and was told it had been.  I've never seen the scan turn up, however.  I can throw it on the pile if my information was wrong back then.

The 59 is the only issue I have that I haven't seen a scan of.  Like I said, I was told it had been scanned when I started but it's not on the site.  The other three issues I have I've already scanned and posted here.

I couldn't find it on "TheList" Eric, so go and scan it.

Fawcett "Funny Animals" books listed as done are: 2,9(i),10,18,24(i),38,55,73(i),77,and then the Charlton vers. ones.

Geo, if you spot 24 and 73 please grab them for the site.

I'll see what I can do on finding 24(i) and 74(i), (both are incomplete issues).

I also see JVJ has a few of these too: Fawcett FUNNY ANIMALS issue #3,5,6,8,11,13,34, (none of which we have onsite). Eric you willing to touch bases with Jim on this?

Funny Animals 073 has now been up'd to the DCM upload site.

Funny Animals 024 is coming, as soon as I put it together, it too in not c2c, but all the stories seem to be there though with some of the ads from that issue.

Thanks for finding them Geo.
I didn't have any luck on DC++.

I think Eric's love of Target Comics is a big reason so many have been scanned.  He turned us on to the book via his old site The Golden Years which featured a LOT of the title there.

Looking forward to it them as well Eric!

Enjoy the new scans JC.
Funny animal fans aren't as common as other genres.  At least not as much on DCM.  If some show up you're lucky but I wouldn't say any more will for sure.
I don't know of any collectors with complete collections willing to scan.

These should get you started for now:

Dell's Fairy Tale Parade, Animal Comics
Peter Wheat in Small Publishers.
Nedor's funny animals titles: Supermouse and Goofy Comics
Charlton's title: Funny Animals
ACG title: Funny Films (has funny animals in it)
And even might check out under unsorted: Jim Tyer Collection_pt1 &2 for them

That's all I can find right now.

I apologize if this sounds a bit rude, but this is not some kind of corporate (or organized) service, and nobody's holding out on you.

Generally, any scans that are available (and in the public domain, and pre-1960) are already going to be here, and I'd guess that anybody reading here who has books that fit the bill are already planning to scan them.  The scanners are doing (sometimes literally) backbreaking labor to produce the scans solely out of the goodness of their hearts, and are therefore not the sorts of people you want to try to micromanage.  Nobody is sitting on scans, just waiting for them to be requested.

I don't want to single anybody out on this, but I do need to stress that pushing is probably more likely to delay the books, not speed them up.  That probably goes especially for someone the community has never seen before and has not talked about anything else.

So, in short, relax a little.  People know you're on the lookout, and short of buying and scanning the books yourself (always an option, and very welcome around here--the scanners you're waiting for are merely people who have done exactly that), that's about all you can do.

I think you may be confused about the focus of this site. It focuses on comics in the "public domain"... hence "legal" content. It isn't a site to share illegal content, so making a request for those issues will do no good. They already post what they have and do a damn good job at keeping it updated. End of story. Good luck though in finding what you want.

The "somebody" would be ME, jaclamil, but I don't scan comics. I have neither the time nor the inclination. I have THOUSANDS of comics that we hope to get onto the site someday, and there are five or six people working diligently at accomplishing this. You need to convince someone on the scanning team to request the Fawcetts (as opposed to something THEY want to see scanned). It's a tough job and these fine folks have their own priorities. Having access to the books is not the same as having them scanned.

That's how it works around here. Patience is a major virtue.

JC,
You've made you desires well known and the scanners have seen your messages.  I suggest you now sit tight and as someone said, relax.  I have personally checked all likely sources and DCM is sharing all of the known existing scans.  Check back in a few months and maybe, (but not likely) some more will show up.  These are just not that popular among scanners.  The fastest way would be to buy and scan them yourself.
I know the JVJ Scanners and nobody has mentioned they were planning on asking for Fawcett books in the near future so please don't get your hopes up.  So far you are only the second or third person I've seen even mention liking the title.

There are Lots of other books of many many genres to enjoy here - why not start looking into those?  Several suggestions have already been made where you can start.

Thanks for you patience,
-Yoc

Books never get removed unless they are found to be not public domain. So if someone finds some funny animal books for you they will remain. There were several other funny animal books uploaded so you should find something you like. Check the last 100 posts

Again, while I appreciate that you enjoy the books and want to see more, please understand that scanning isn't done by an organization.

If someone had them and was planning on scanning them soon, they would have said so.  They haven't, so there's no schedule.  Someone we've never heard of might post one elsewhere that makes its way here tomorrow, or it may never happen, if nobody involved in scanning has an interest or access to a copy.

It's a lot like asking "when is someone going to write a comprehensive book on Don Quixote's resemblance to the Friulian Benandanti?"  It might happen immediately, but it might not, depending entirely on the interests and resources of writers.  And asking over and over again (without contributing to any other conversations) isn't going to make anything happen fast.  It's not exactly polite, either.
Title: Re: Funny Animal request
Post by: JVJ (RIP) on August 19, 2010, 03:18:17 PM
Jcalamil - imagine 10,000 people like yourself being very bussy and living their life and working and sometimes, when the time and mood arrive simultaneously, one or five of them will pick up an old comic they have bought and spend an hour or two scanning every page and then straightening every scan and cleaning every scan and then putting all those scans into a file and then logging on to this website and uploading all of that work for free.

That is what happens here. No one plans or organizes which comics to scan or when. It's a few (probably less than 25) really really dedicated people who devote their time to scanning these comics, when they aren't busy. Or not too busy, anyway. Do you HAVE any Fawcett Funny Animal comics that YOU could scan? Maybe not too many other people have them and maybe those people that do have them would rather scan an issue of Capt. Marvel. We never know who is going to scan what or when. Asking again and again, as John C. points out, is both pointless and impolite.

Check back when you're not busy and maybe you'll get lucky, but it is very unlikely that your requests will motivate someone to invest hours of their busy time just for you.

my 2¢

Well said Jim and John.

jcalamil, please just check from time to time.  If nothing new has been scanned check again later.
As we've already mentioned the overall interest in this title isn't very large so the best thing to do is be patient and again, check out some of the other titles on the site.  We've got 1000s of books to try, you might find something else to enjoy.
