Our many thanks again for their support and generosity in letting us use their artworks for this banner.

Sorry for the late message here.  Life got in the way...  But the new scans all went live on the proper date and that's the important thing right?  ;)

Hi there!  Thanks for clicking on our banner!
If you've come here to learn more about possibly sharing your golden-age comic with the world thank-you!
And please continue to read our anniversary recap below but also
CLICK THIS LINK to see our WANTED COMICS List and how we can help you scan your book for posterity.

Hi Gang!
Here we are at our FIFTEENTH Anniversary!!    :D  ^-^
This anniversary features the debut of a historically interesting first issue - Circus, The Comic Riot #1You can read an intro for it at this link.

A huge thank-you to everyone that has stuck with us since day 1 in 2010 and some of you I know were with us way, way back when we were on staff as part of the original first site, 'Golden Age Comics.UK' (GAC). (Click here to see how it originally looked in 2009.)  This was before our friend Mark became the current owner and renamed and redesigned it to the very cool CB+ site.  If you include the GAC years (2006-09) we've been sharing comics for 19 years straight!  Pretty damn impressive if we say so ourselves.   ;)

This last year we gained 17959 new members and had 94709 total on March 28th. (We've culled out a LOT of spam accounts again this year.
We also added 378 new scans during the year and have 24848 total!

Notable events over the last year...
We had another amazing anniversary event last year with 34 new scans going live to mark our special day!
Thanks again to SRCA1941 (Eric) for making the day extra special supplying several of the new books!  He also upgraded many needing some extra work to complete.
Click here to read all about last year's 14th Anniversary event.

Lyzardegod started our new year off with a bang.  So many were collection hole fillers as well.  If we listed them all as he shared them each month you would see him everywhere in this message!  He ended up having a great year with 40 new scans!   :o

LG highlights included: completing the runs for GI War Brides (Superior), War Battles (Harvey), Battle Attack (Stanley Morse), Fighting War Stories (Story) along with other various books!  We LOVE seeing titles being completed like this... great work LG!

New face on DCM RAYTUS shared his first collection on DCM as part of last year's anniversary gifts.  He's since shared 30 total at this point!  If you enjoy Kirby, Meskin and Prize Comics, you can find them all in his 'CNCC Classic Comics' folder in our Anthologies/Collections section.  His collections are very involved and work intensive requiring bleaching of his original comics and computer recolouring.  Thanks again to Raytus for all his work and generosity sharing them on DCM.

Raytus also shared raw scans of some missing books for the collection including Prize Comics Western 118, and Young Love 9+56.

Scanning legend TITANSFAN shared a few new scans, mostly for the Misc/Adult Humor section, but also Babe, Darling of the Hills 010 (Prize), Big Chief Wahoo 07 (Eastern), and Jo-Jo 021 (Fox).  Thanks as ever to TF for all his incredible work over the years scanning and sharing thousands of books on the site!

The mysterious INABUICK shared 15 missing books this year.  He's been focused on the IW reprints mostly.

May 2024 highlights include... Los Pollos Hermanos sharing Popular Comics 47+55SRCA1941 sharing Daredevil Comics 079 (LevGleason); and Wotalife Comics 001 (Green) from SuperMack

***
Perhaps the nicest news for the year was when new rookie star scanner Mark Bowen arrived and started sharing some very rare books and fills for incomplete books.  We've gotten to know him well and he's as nice a guy as you could hope to meet and very enthusiastic about preserving and sharing comics!  He's been scanning books from a private collection using a digital phone camera and spending many, many hours correcting his raw pictures for sharing.  Proving even a smartphone with a good camera can do a good scan in the right hands.  He fears no page curl unlike myself.   :-\

Mark Bowen highlight scans include...
Captain Marvel Adventures 014 (diff ver) w/RedRyder edits,
Farmers Daughter 02-04 w/ComicWanderer edits which completed the run,
Battle Attack 02+06  w/lyzardegod edits to help complete the run!
And some nice precode horror books like..
Chilling Tales 016 (c2c) w/Cclay edits,
Shocking Mystery Cases 050 (Star) w/Cclay edits,
Haunted Thrills 009 (no text story) w/Cclay edits,
Weird Comics 004 (Fox)
And just today Capt. Marvel Jr #1!

Many thanks and welcome aboard Mark!

Starting sometime in April 2024 we noticed the DCM site was getting very hard to use.  Time outs and downloads would often take multiple tries to work.  the problems became more common until we decided in June it was time to find DCM a new host.  We found a new host June 24 and started the move process.  The site was hit-and-miss during the change over but we were done for July 1st, 2024.  We still have some bugs to sort out but we like to think it's not nearly as bad as it once was before the move!  If you see any errors connecting to DCM please use the Ctrl-F5 keys to refresh your browser.  It might even take a few tries but we are still here.

June 2024 was a busy month for upgrades.  Thanks everyone!  It helps to finally get these books off our Wanted List.

In July 2024, Darwination shared a new version of Down with Crime 001 (Fawcett).  He also shared Ellery Queen 04 (Superior) in August.

Titansfan and David Miles shared Big Chief Wahoo 007 also in July.

In August 2024, AtomicSteve shared Super Pup 005 (Avon) with us his first new scan for the year.  But he was working on a BIG book still to come!

A big August surprise and wonderful addition Hit Comics #4 which finally got a new paper scan from Superscan and friends

September gets busy with several collections landing, this time from Prime user.  First he compiled one for an early GA love of mine - the original Ghost Rider Collection (ME) in five parts.  He followed this up with a four part one of Target and the Targeteers Collection (Novelty).  And then a five parter for Red Mask Collection (ME).  All of these are in our Anthologies/Collections sectionDave H shared  Smash Comics 036.

In October 2024 Jungle Comics 044 arrived from SRCA1941.  And JonTheScanners upgraded more books for us.

Comicscastle showed up again with more risque humour books.  CC's pace has slowed from his peak days in 2021-22 but he's still sharing one from time to time.  This year he shared five issues of Army and Navy Fun Parade.  Another one is going up today.  ;)

For November 2024 we landed America's Greatest Comics 001 from DrJohnnyDiabloLarge Feature Comic v1 #17-Gangbusters from MrTimely also shows up.

December 2024 was a busy month for us in a great way.   ^-^
First new scanner Mark Boersma arrives on the scene. Mark is another very nice guy like so many in our hobby.  He's another collector/scanner happy to be sharing several very cool precode horror books with us such as - Haunted Thrills 017, Strange Mysteries 017, Dark Mysteries 021, Strange Mysteries 010 and just for a change, Blue Beetle 049.

DCM co-presented a month long BALLYHOO Spotlight, focusing the NYC humour mag from the early 1930s that would have a direct influence on the humour comics to come like Mad.  Master scanner Darwination would guide us through the spotlight sharing several examples of the trend while talking about them on his blog.  You can read all about it on his blog here as well.
---

For Christmas 2024 we received several new additions to the collection!  The biggest surprise was a rare Fawcett from professional writer Paul Tobin!  His raw scan of the rare Master Comics #6 with a very nice edit by Mark Bowen.

Other Christmas highlights included -
SRCA1941 (Eric) was our star scanner sharing 12 books including America's Best Comics 014, Big Shot Comics 002 (paper), Boy Comics 030, Captain Marvel Adventures 029.
From OtherEric our resident Peter Wheat expert and buyer bless him - Adventures of Peter Wheat 58+63 as well as several Spirit Sections.
AtomicSteve shared a long sought scan of the Pines giant 132 page (!!) book - Complete Book of Comics and Funnies [Pines 1944] in two parts.

---
We debuted a big surprise on Boxing Day when BuilderBoy shared his FLETCHER HANKS 'The Complete BIG RED McLANE' Collection!.  Hanks is likely known to many here for his over the top Stardust and Fantomah stories in Fox Publication titles.  If you are a fan of crazy you'll enjoy this collection.  BuilderBoy is a giant fan of Hanks' work and suggests there might be another collection coming down the road.
---

In January 2025, Casanova shared his his one and so far only scan so far - Romantic Story 033.
Mark Bowen shared more new scans with Farmers Daughter 02 -04, a nice Baker romance Diary Secrets 028 and Fantastic Fears 001.
OtherEric shared more always welcome Spirit Sections.
Several more upgrades for this month as well.  Thanks guys!

February 2025 was another fun month for new scans!
We had Mark Bowen continuing his great work with Coo Coo, the Bird Brain 060, Captain Marvel Adventures 022, Shocking Mystery Cases 050, and Captain Marvel Adventures 025.
Mark Boersma shared Haunted Thrills 008, Fantastic Fears 007.  And Black Magic 009 (v02 03) and War Report 03 (1953) in March.
LibraryManager arrives this month and shares three railroad giveaways as his first shares.

In March 2025 we debut a couple of highly prized key books (both very $$$) from two cover artist legends - LB Cole and Lou Fine!
Mark Bowen found a source for these that let him scan and share them - Mask Comics #1, Weird Comics #2. We felt these two deserved their own banner and an intro which you can read on this link.
And in addition to those he also shared Haunted Thrills 009 (inc), Chilling Tales 016, Captain Marvel Adventures 014,
QuietRiot debuted five books just before our March 28th anniversary, three of them completing runs for titles on the site!

Which leads to our big day on March 28th!
Many, many thanks to everyone mentioned here and those that aren't for sharing their time and books bringing them to the site for reading and appreciating.  Good and bad, they all deserve to be scanned before they disappear in a pile of pulp.

News and Announcements / (2025.03.28) - Circus, The Comic Riot 01 Introduction
« Last post by Yoc on March 28, 2025, 02:18:10 PM »
Hi Gang,
We're THRILLED to be able to share this book on DCM!  It's been #1 in our most wanted list for years!
Here's an introduction to this first issue by DCM Staffer - OtherEric!

Circus, The Comic Riot 01 Intro by OtherEric
--
Circus the Comic Riot is one of those books you sometimes get in this hobby:  A book that has a reputation as an artistic and commercial failure that everybody nonetheless wants to see.  The only comic series from the Globe Syndicate, the first issue came out in June 1938, the same month as Superman's debut in Action #1, and it lasted a measly three issues before disappearing again.  Most of the features were editorially required to use a very tight 3 by 4 panel grid, with the panels bumping up right against one another, creating a claustrophobic feel.  It doesn't work that well on the comedy features, and is absolutely crippling to the action strips in the book.  So why are we so excited to finally get this book here at DCM?

It's because of the creators; this book features early work by many comic greats before they started their most famous features.  The issue starts with Jack Cole on "Peewee Throttle in Fuzzyland", several years before Police Comics introduced Plastic Man.  You've got Bob Kane on "Van Bragger" and "Side Streets of New York" a year before Batman debuts.  You have Will Eisner, years before the Spirit, compressing Charles Lever's Novel "Jack Hinton, the Guardsman" from 1857 down to a six page, heavily illustrated text story.  And perhaps most interestingly, we have what may be the comic book debut of Basil Wolverton.  The Grand Comics Database tentatively assigns one page in an issue of Star Comics to him earlier, but this is his first definite credit.  He turns up here with "Disk-Eyes the Detective" and, even more interestingly, "Spacehawks".  This series doesn't directly connect to his later, classic feature for Target Comics, but you can definitely see the start of the design aesthetic he uses in the later series.

So we at DCM are incredibly grateful that Darwination managed to locate a copy of this insanely rare book for us to share on our anniversary, and we hope you enjoy the chance to see this early work by classic creators as much as we did!

A complete collection of Wolverton's later Spacehawk series is available at DCM HERE:

https://digitalcomicmuseum.com/index.php?dlid=33948 (Part 2)

If anybody is curious after seeing Eisner's adaptation, Project Gutenberg has "Jack Hinton, The Guardsman" by Charles Lever available in a variety of formats HERE:
