I have upped a couple of narstar scans for him...

Quality's G.I. Combat #'s 04 and 20, both 33 of 36 pages.  WWII action, tough and gritty. A nice Pete Morisi story in one, and something that looks like Joe Sinnott work in another. Any art credits that anyone can help with would be appreciated.

When I get JVJ's books all scanned this summer I will send the GI Combats to him maybe he can ID it all. It is not a title that I collect just picked up to scan.

I love these lots. When I pay less than a couple bucks for a book I split the pages and put it through my document feeder. The time saved is well worth the loss of book value since it had very little.

Less than ten bucks for the whole lot.

Jim,

Thanks for the ID's...I will try to get around to GCD to input the stories and your info...this series has not yet been given a lot of attention.

Best regards and thanks,

Yet another narfstar scan up...this time Canadian publisher Superior's U.S. Fighting Air Force #23.  I have another of narf's scans from the same series, but a coverless issue...so no indicia nor # on the cover to ID the issues.  I did my best to research the book from the story titles, but only about half the series carried story titles on the cover, and none of the on-line databases have much detail on the series.

Interesting enough, the issue was reprinted subsequently by I.W. in it's title U.S. Fighting Men #18.  I can't get ahold of that scan, but I don't think I.W. was ever too helpful about citing it's reprint sources.

Ah well...Let me know how and where you would like me to post it...it is a gem of a book, aside from lacking an issue #.

now up: narf's Merry-Go-Round #2, cover-to-cover 52 pages. From Better Publications of Canada. Narf has a nice copy, and indicated that this was a seldom-seen book.

One right up your alley, Yoc...narfstar's scan of JVJ's copy of Amazing Man #09, cover to cover with the exception of the tragically missing centerfold. I have borrowed from Darkmark's fiche copy to make it complete, but the book otherwise is a sweet piece of work.

I remember you are a big Centaur fan

Builderboy's edits really brought my raw scans to a much higher quality. He deserves a lot of credit. He should have a much easier time with Comic Pages and Funny Picture Stories some of them look almost new. Great to have held these books in my hands

I agree, he is definately to be commended for his edits  :).

I just pointed out on the GAC, though, that this file actually contains edits of Amazing-Man #6, not #9 (assuming it is the exact same file--I haven't downloaded the DCM version to make doubly sure).

If so, the thumbnail image on the download page also needs to be changed to #6.

Later!

Well, I have downloaded the file I uploaded to the site (to see if I did the right attachment, which I did), and have cross checked it with the GCD info on the issue.

Sorry, DHFH, but it seems to check out. There is a fantastic scan of issue #6 on the sit by Rolster...maybe you somehow got the two mixed up?

Anyways...on to Comic Pages v3 #6. Get ready!

Also, more Amazing Man paper scans to follow...

It might turn out not to be #9, but it's not #6. #6 has the origin of The Shark and my copy has a Shark story other than the origin.

As a mod, I DLed #6 and 9 over at GAC to check the complaint and I've made essentially the same statement there.  The comic uploaded as #9 may not be #9, but it certainly isn't #6.

No sweat, DHFH, and thank you. Thank you, Jon, for investigating the issue. I did my own comparison of the scan with the data at GCD, and it seems checks out, as does the indicia.

Another of JVJ's beauties now up: Comic Pages v3 #6.  Sweeeeeet book.  narfstar scanned it, and gave me the privilege of editing. A labor of love with this book. Thanks to you both.

More Centaur than you can shake a stick at!  And still more to come...
Title: Re: Narf Star's Neat Stuff
Post by: narfstar on May 26, 2010, 08:51:12 PM
Scanning is a chore but it sure beats editing. Everyone needs to give builderboy a pat on the back. I am only able to get them scanned so fast because he takes them completely raw and uncut. He has to straighted and crop each page at the least. Some pages require photo shop although the last few have been really nice straight from the scanner. I have learned that I get better scans especially at the spine if I scan the odd pages upside down. This makes more work for bb but he never complains and I can get the scans out quickly. Down to the last JVJ book to scan now. Centaur superheroes are my favorite GA but I have to admit I do not care for the early general anthology books very much. Still some interesting stuff for those who might enjoy it.

I really love coming upon those Dick Ryan funny animal pieces in the Centaur anthologies. They were so unlike others of their time, with a certain sophistication in how he cast the animals in social satire. Kind of like a New Yorker version of Funny Animals.

I had never read any Centaur super-hero stuff until the Amazing Man that narf had just sent me. Wild, the way that AM cooly exterminates the enemies like cockroaches. One scarey dude.

Thanks for the kind words, narfstar

I am fond of the Iron Skull. Busting through walls and bouncing bullets off his head. If Henry ever scans his Wham #2 you will see the character that is my top for odd power The Buzzard. He took The Keys place as number one bumping the Key to #2. If you do not know what I mean by "bad" powers read Key Comics #1
Title: Draftie Better Little Book
Post by: narfstar on May 27, 2010, 11:43:17 AM
This is a Whitman book which was the parent company of Dell. I enjoy BLB's. This is one of the few they tried as All Picture books. I actually like the others better with a picture page and story page alternating. May be why I also like Phantom: Generations which does the same thing. Anyone know of any other scanned BLB's. John C said this one was not renewed so PD to enjoy.
Title: Real Life Comics 57
Post by: narfstar on May 28, 2010, 08:54:23 AM
This book has some really nice art by Severin and Elder as well as Anthony Cataldo. A recent discussion on color registry caused me to notice that the registry on this book is excellent. They stayed within the lines most of time.
If others in the series look this good it is a missed gem. Book is all narfstar. My book, my scans and my edits which anyone with time is welcome to improve.

I look to look at what people are downloading. There is a "market" for almost everything. Not a lot of surprises in the most popular category. I was surprised at how many people jumped at the Amazing Man fiche replacements. I am glad the new scans are being enjoyed.

As if narf needed anyone else piling on top of his heap (that's a lotta new books, fella!), here's one more of his:

Amazing-Man #17...with the contributor list including JVJ (provider of book), narfstar (scanner), Darkmark (provider of fiche copies of missing pages) and Heritage (provider of fc & bc).  68 pages of quirky goodness.

btw, thanks for the kind words, all.

narf, loved the Ringmasters and Clear the Tracks. What a time warp!

Just up: narf's scan of JVJ's Amazing Man #20 from JVJ's Centaur collection.

This is another Frankenstein of a book: part paper scan (53/68), part Darkmark's fiche (13/68), part Heritage scan (2/68), but a real treat, including JVJ's index of stories and talent.

Great job BB!  Love your first fact page.
BTW, JVJ's credits cards are done with fellow are authority Hames Ware also hence the two colours and handwriting.
Thought you'd want to know.

Now up!

Post by: builderboy on June 07, 2010, 06:30:00 AM
Thank you, Yoc...that is good info.  I have been fishing around for a format for these fact pages, and where in the presentation of the book they should appear (last page, behind the cover image?).  I would be glad for any other thoughts, those of others on this stuff.  I would also love to throw a DCM logo on that page, were one available. Thank you for the feedback.

Do you know if Hames Ware worked with Jim on all of his indexes? Jim...if you're out there, feel free to chime in.  I would love to have any JVJ books I work on have the same info.

Builderboy, I can co-credit Hames on every ID I've made for nearly 40 years. He's been my mentor, teacher, and un-indicted co-conspirator on every project I've worked on since 1972. Even if the handwriting on the cards is uniform, the input reflects Hames and his knowledge. I've tried to submit index cards for the books I send to the scanners. It's possible that I've missed some. If some don't have index cards with them, let me know. I'll download a copy and try to recreate the information for you.

Peace, Jim (|:{>

Thanks for the background info Jim.  Nice to hear you two have worked together for so long!

BB - most scanners are scanning the cards as-is and adding them at the end of the book.  I personally like them at the start but that's just me.  I love the extra attention you've put on them with your version of them and I hope you'll continue to do them.

You can right click on the DCM logo on the download page and save a copy of it as a jpg that way.  The smaller version here on the forum has been modified to read easier at this size.  If you plan to use it at a smallish size I suggest you use the forum version.

Hope that helps, feel free to Private Message me if you want anything more,
-Yoc

Another JVJ / narfstar beauty in the hopper:

Centaur's Funny Pages v2 #04...all paper c2c.  Jim, I revised the index credits and incorporated what you had told me about Hames as a co-author of the index cards. I did take the liberty of mentioning you by name rather than initials (I figured if I was going to list Hames by name, why not Jim?).

If this is objectionable, I can swap out the language. I was looking to develop something I could reuse on other JVJ edit projects.

Speaking of which, I still have 4 or 5 more Centaurs to go...one more Funny Pages, three Funny Picture Stories and a Star Rangers Funnies.

which, I guess, makes 5   :-\

I think the editing has gotten a little better as I go...hope you like the results. Thanks for letting me contribute.
Title: Re: Narf Star's Neat Stuff
Post by: builderboy on June 20, 2010, 10:27:41 AM
p.s.  Yoc, I didn't forget you on the incorporation of the logo.  I jammed myself for space on the index card page, and did not do a fact page for this one, as I am still up on the air about the fact page placement in the package.

The purist in me wants to see the whole book, cover-to-cover from the first click, while that scholar in me wants the fact sheet (which would have the DCM logo) in a place similar to a Table of Contents in a library book.

I'll figure it out soon.

I anybody wants to give me feedback on the index card prior to making the book public on the site, I am open to critique, and will resubmit an edit. Particularly Jim, if'n you are reading this.

BB your edits look great as always. Since I overloaded you Moondood stepped up to handle my recent scans. Many thanks to moondood for the great edits and putting these books up. I noticed they have already gotten a lot of downloads.
Christmas Carnival was a pain to scan and not tear completely apart. It held together a little worse for wear though with more spine splitting, we suffer for our art. Those 100 page squarebound books with art right up to the spine are not fun to scan. Gonna put it on ebay if anyone is interested in here first let me know. Anyone able to identify if it does have Kelly art? Eric?
Also Fighting War Stories 1 and Steel! a giveaway and Muggsy Mouse IW #1 one of the few unidentified reprints. If anyone has some original Muggsy Mouse books we would appreciate it if you can identify this and would especially apreciate the scans.

The only possibility I can see is the IFC, Jim, and I don't think it is. It's a good homage, but it's not WK. IMHO. Eric should know.

edit: looking at the ifc again, I'm going to guess this is Howie Post.

Thanks Jim but a lot of the credit for how good it looks has to go to moondood. You can see from some of the pages how the art ran so close to the spine. Funny animal art can be fun to look at. Did anyone else notice the Klaus Nordling story in this book? And how about that great Dave Berg back cover. I like Milt Story's Shorty the Squirrel

I don't see any Kelly in it, myself.  I do see quite a few bits which show just how pervasive Kelly's influence was at that time.  I'm also not aware of Kelly doing anything for anybody other than Western other than VERY early in his career, so how he would show up at Ziff-Davis or St. John is a real question.

Still a neat book that I'm glad to have, thank you!

I have recompiled the book with the fixed page, and re-upped it for Yoc's white glove test.

TADaaahh! Funny Picture Stories v2 #002 from Oct 19-freakin'-37.  Can you believe that? What a classic!

I totally agree with your and narfstar's numbering choice, bb, but the discrepancy probably ought to be mentioned somewhere in the notes below the download, perhaps?

Peace, Jim (|:{>

ps. glad to help with the one page. Last night I devoted myself to some of MY "Golden Age" purchases - 180+ issues of Life Magazine (the humor incarnation) from 1906-1909 -- all purchased last week for less than $200. Coles Phillips, Charles Dana Gibson, Orson Lowell, and thousands of others. Grist for my ImageS mill...

pps. Thanks to everybody for putting this issue into shape.

Right you are, Jim...good scholarship practice.  I have added the note, and checked whatever other issues I had for similar instances. FPS issues v2 07 and v2 09 neither were consistently labeled in the indicias (?).

...may have been a one time phenomenon?

Did anyone besides me happen to notice that this is labeled "V1: No. 13" in the indicia? That makes ZERO sense.

It maaay make some sense, if you stretch a little into the world of fly-by-night business.  As I think we kicked around once, there doesn't seem to be a publishing definition of a "volume," so some publishers use it for a year's worth, and other use it for a title.

If it's the latter, you'd rightly say that nobody would logically name something v1 unless they knew a v2 was coming.  Except...what if the original business plan (as has been typical with websites, which has a similar profile in some ways--the medium is cheap, and a lot of creators cheap out the content) was to get a "name" worth being acquired?  Then the buyer would run Funny Picture Stories v2, while they'd jump to a new trademark and wait for the next buyer.

They might then either not make enough to sell or made too much to bother selling, and retroactively changed their definition of "volume" before anybody wondered why there were thirteen issues in a one.  Except the cover, I mean.

I'm not claiming any knowledge of the situation, by any means, but it seems like a reasonable hypothesis to work from, at least.

I remain very curious and puzzled about how they handled v2:1, John.
Considering it most "traditional" to have 12 issues in a "volume", it would have not been so unlikely to have an issue labeled both "V1:13" and "V2:1", but all logic for the actual pairing of "V1:13" and "V2:2" escapes me.

Probably a one-time glitch, as you suggest, builderboy, but it really makes me wish I could afford to see a copy of the previous issue. Isn't it frustrating that so much of comics history is being encased in plastic and unavailable to people who are actually interested in them as COMIC BOOKS?

Anybody out there got a copy to examine? If so, can you post the indicia data and the title page data? Curious minds want to know...

Peace, Jim (|:{>

Any idea when the first issue hit the stands?  If it was February, for example, they might have reset the volume with the new year.

Again, I'm pulling that out of, well, let's say my "hat," but it seems like something I might be inclined to do in their situation.  What I mean is that it might make sense for some publishing reason (taxes?) to know the publication calendar year by the issue number, regardless of whether the book was launched in summer or winter, and whether it was quarterly, bimonthly, or monthly.

That logic, though, might be exclusive of my other hypothesis, though there's also the possibility that they gave up their plans of "squatting profits" with issue 12, thus making that the second volume...maybe.

The attached index card with the credits is for V2 #11.

As far as the discrepancy between the cover and the book, you have to remember they were printed in different places.  Covers were routinely printed at one printer that could handle glossy paper and the book's guts were printed at another printer that did newsprint- and then usually sent to a third company to be bound together!  I think World Color in 1955 was probably the first place to offer to do the whole thing.

Also between v1 and v2, the comic changed publishers.  So the covers were printed before the switchover and the new publisher decided to use them anyway to save money.  New publisher, new address, new business plan.  Nothing in the cover indicia matches the indicia on the first page.  Not even the copyright!
Title: Re: Narf Star's Neat Stuff
Post by: builderboy on July 10, 2010, 10:43:16 AM
Good point, Bob. There is a variant form of the indicia printed on the TOC page, so 2 indicias for the single issue.  I didn't do a thorough comparison of the two, but they vary significantly in content. Oddly, both cite that they hold 1937 copywrites, the ifc version by Comics Magazine Company, Inc. and the TOC version by Ultem Publications, Inc. (Harry "A" Chesler, editor).

All makes perfect (well, not literally) sense, and makes me even MORE curious as to if there WAS a V2:1 and how that was treated in the indicia. Still hoping someone can add that info to the discussion.

Well, according to Keltner's book, the previous issue also had dual indicias and the one on the inside cover said V1 #10, while the one on the title page said v2 #1.

All this is interesting because v1 actually only goes up to #7. the June issue. There were no July and August issues.

I wonder if there were two more issues 'in the can'...produced but not printed. The 'Lost Issues'?

Didn't Stan Lee buy up some material that had never seen print after one of the Golden Age implosions?
Title: Re: Narf Star's Neat Stuff
Post by: darkmark (RIP) on July 12, 2010, 12:33:58 PM
There's always some unpubbed stuff around comics companies, and some of it's lost forever.  I saw an ad for an unpublished Frank Robbins Dracula story form Marvel, and Dave Kraft confirmed that Ernie Chan drew an issue of SWAMP THING in the first run that's floating around in the ether somewhere.  Many other examples to cite, but yeah, it's *possible* Stan bought some material in the Fifties that didn't get used up prior to or after the 1957 implosion...I'm not sure how *likely* it is, given that Martin Goodman had him use up that huge inventory he'd built up back then.

Wish that I had a way to tell you, Yoc. The original scanner possibly would have known (narf...feel free to chime in), and sometimes, a publisher will globally number the pages of a book, but no such luck on this one.

HOWEVER
, with this book, hot off the presses, the problem won't re-occur:

Centaurs Funny Picture Stories v2 #07, a c2c 68-page paper scan...just posted for your viewing pleasure.  A JVJ-narfstar-builderboy production.

I went through the whole folder and added the "0" to all the files so it should now show them in the correct order now. Len if you find any others without the "0" added to make it '3' digits please post up or PM me about it and I'll fix them. I thought we caught all of them by now, I would guess not. The spine did not lay well so lofty did a good job making it look good for all once a mod pulls it out of the narfstar ftp folder. I think Mart liked the Plurtotles story as I think he put more love in it.

I loved "Don Winslow" #54 with the two wonderfully entertaining villains: the Snake, and Longhair.  The Snake appeared in "The Return of the Snake," which leads me to wonder in which issue of Don Winslow he appeared first. He certainly seems like a post-war villain. I'm going to see if GCD has that information. I hope the Snake's first appearance is also among the other Fawcett Winslow issues available here.

Thanks to  all involved in presenting that issues.

Your welcome. I am not really a Don Winslow fan and do not pick them up. This one was unscanned and cheap so I got it. I was surprised that it was a neat book.

Narf,
I've been scarce of late and am in no position to criticize, but have you considered investing in a new scanner? This latest Big Shot #83 scan has pages with noticeable blurry spots. If this is your (or our) one chance to scan this comic, it is being undermined by blurred page files. If this is a scanner issue, perhaps we could take up a collection to get you a new scanner.

More than likely me rushing to get things scanned. I have so many books needing scanned, and it is such a tedious job. I do not know how some guys do so much so well. I guess it amounts to quality or quantity and it has always been in my nature to go for quantity is things like this.

Thanks for posting that issue of "Unusual Tales."  I've been trying to figure out where I read the first story in that issue, "A Matter of Luck," for years and all I could figure out was that the artwork had to have been by Ditko. The ending is truely unexpected, and I remember turning the last page when I had that book back in the late 50s and being flabergasted that it seemed like the story had no ending. Rereading it, after a very long time, the ending doesn't seem as mysterious as it did when I was 10 but it is an unusual story for its time and seems a bit like the ending of a Twilight Zone story. I'm curious to see what else is in the issue, but I wanted to thank you for posting the issue before I forgot to do so, and I haven't read (or rather reread) the rest either. Interestingly, I recognized the cover as one I had seen but I wouldn't have put the two together.

Isn't it fun when you stumble across a book you knew so well but had only vague memories of?  And when you read it again, to me it's always 'oh, I remember that.. and that... oh, forgot that part!'  hehehe.

Moved it while I wait for the higher ups to clarify the situation.  It's well documented that John Lustig bought whatever Charlton still had of the title when Charlton was selling off its assets.  I think it's open to question if Charlton had renewed or not, though; and some of the later issues the would not have needed to if they were correctly registered in the first place.

With all that said, I believe even if it isn't in the public domain we may have agreed not to host it.  So, like I said, waiting on the higher ups.

In the Copyright Office database, I don't see anything resembling a renewal for any "First Kiss" issue.  Why are we sure it's still under copyright?

Title: Re: Narf Star's Neat Stuff
Post by: OtherEric on July 02, 2011, 03:17:05 PM
To clarify my earlier comment:  I do think the book is PD.  I think we (or possibly GAC) had said we would not post the scans as a courtesy to John Lustig.  Which is what I'm waiting for clarification on.  Yoc outranks me, so he can move it back if he wants.
Title: Re: Narf Star's Neat Stuff

Title: Re: Narf Star's Neat Stuff
Post by: John C on July 02, 2011, 04:36:48 PM
More to the point, has he ever contacted anybody to express a problem?  Does he reprint the actual comics as originally published?  I thought he just did out-of-context panels with new dialogue.

Just to explain what I found, there are a handful of renewals for late-1950s works called "Last Kiss," but they're all songs, so there's no copyright.  Seems silly to me to hold it because we kinda-sorta think we might have agreed to not compete with him, even though there's no competition...

Title: Talullah 2 c2c
Post by: narfstar on October 17, 2011, 09:19:32 AM
Talullah 2 cover to cover is up. Does anyone know anything about this book? Metropolitan printed six books. Talullah 2 was printed with Boots and Saddles 1 then they were cut apart. My guess is that all six books were printed on large newsprint then cut apart. Talullah was with Boots because part of that cover can be seen with it. The interesting thing about Talullah is that it is the only known second issue. The other five were series one and distributed together in a five pack for a dime. A second series was planned. So was Talullah 2 ever distributed? How rare is my issue?
Could it be a Gerber 9. These books do not appear in Gerber.

Interesting material. What I'm unclear about is how the sequential scans relate to actual pages. Is each scanned 'page' actually a two-page spread? If not, the proportions of each scan looks like a half page. Help us out here. What was the procedure with this scan?

These books were cut in half. This book was the other half of Boots and Saddles. Six books were printed together and cut apart. The other five were first issues and packaged together for a dime. That is what makes me think my Talullah #2 may be really rare. Wish someone knew more.

Fixed.  I've just told Narf that anyone who uploads via the Upload File link can change the location of the file by going into User_CP on the download page - then enter Approved Files, find the scan and hit EDIT on the far right.
Inside there you can go down to Category and select the folder you want to have it shared.

You DO NOT have to reupload the entire file again.

And of course, a staff member can help if needed.

Thanks for the share Narf.

Narf numbered each page as he fed them in the scanner.
The copy that was on the site was in the order as he sent the raw scans.
I did the edits and upload.  I don't believe anything other than the missing page is wrong with this.

Narf would know the best.

The ibc is labeled as HotDog03_pg33.jpg and can be confirmed by comparing with the damage on the back cover.

If narf gets us the missing page we'll try and sort this out.  Otherwise I think we can just keep it as is for now.

If narf gets us the missing page we'll try and sort this out.  Otherwise I think we can just keep it as is for now.
There are still problems with the page order in the interior of the book. The first story (pg03-pg08) are okay, but if you try to read the stories from pg09 onward, the page order seems jumbled to me. However, I've done some analysis that I think straightens things out.

If you look at the odd numbered interior pages, it looks like narf wrote the page number in pencil (presumably to help him keep track of the page order after splitting the pages). When you look at those numbers, all of the odd numbers between 3 and 33 are there except for 9. Also, if you compare the numbers to the file names, 3, 5 and 7 are on pg03, pg05 and pg07, but the remaining numbers (11 through 33) are on pg09 through pg31 respectively. Therefore, I think that from page 9 onward, the odd pages are shifted by 2, but the even pages are correct.

I've reshuffled the page numbers to fix this and read through the stories afterward, and they make more sense now, so I think I have the right page order. However there is still one page missing, between the end of the first story (pg08) and the 1-page golfing story (pg10). Hopefully the missing page 09 is an ad.

I could upload my set of scans in corrected page order, but there's still the missing page. We should probably wait for narf to provide that before uploading yet another version.

Post by: narfstar on January 22, 2012, 02:52:09 PM
Just put in another 60% off Milehigh order with most of these falling in the "atomic age" or in between period of gold and silver 1956-1960 or so. some will be GAC only. Once again low condition so my document feeder can get a lot done. Look for some more editing needs by narfstar. I buy em, I scan em and most of the time I edit them but some help is appreciated.

Mile High Motherload 2 has arrived. 53 books for a little over a hundred dollars. Less than the cost of 50 new books. Some great Charlton, Ajax and IW stuff. I had thought most of it would be GAC only. Probably 3/4 will go up on DCM. Gotta get back to my books now. As Jim said when his box arrived it is time to play.

Narf,
I'd suggest that the first story in Texas Rangers #7, probably has the inks by Sal Trapani, the second, Random Recruit, is definitely inked by Dick Giordano himself, and that the third, Get Out or Get Shot, is what Vince Alascia inks are more like.

FWIW.

Peace, Jim (|:{>

What penciler are you ascribing to the TR 7 stories Jim? I am proud that I saw Giordano in the second story also. I am starting to pick up on some of his stuff. I had heard someone recognized Alascia hands. While I can not yet recognize Alascia, I have noticed strong lines in the hands that were not in the first story so I figured not Alascia. Isn't eliminating the wrong answer a good test technique  ;)

Wow, I'm glad that I asked for it!  :o

I'd downloaded Cannonball #2 a while back here at DCM, loved it, and was anxious to read the premiere issue. Now I'm saddened there was never a Cannonball Comics #3 (comics really seemed to come and go back in the 40's). But you really did a nice job with the book, Narf. Colors are really bright and looks as though it were published just yesterday. I'm just so happy that there are people like yourself who put all the time and energy into preserving these comics for everyone.

And I moved Wonders of Wire Rope for the moment while we decide what to do with it.  While I normally trust archive.org to check stuff as well, and it's not COPYRIGHT by them, this is an EC produced book and I really don't want to open that can of worms without discussing it first.
Title: Re: Narf Star's Neat Stuff
Post by: narfstar on October 16, 2012, 04:05:25 AM
I don't know if archive.org checks anything. They have some new 52 comics up. I doubt that wire rope would have been renewed but it does not hurt to check.

Archive.org only removes when there are complaints filed from rights' holders with the exception of Movies and TV and in those instances there's a group of self-proclaimed copyright police that badger admins to remove stuff whether it's PD or not.

Superduck and Peter Rabbit are now at the local jail. I have one of those things advertised on TV for fastening on buttons. It uses a little plastic thing like what holds tags on clothes. I used it to join the pages since they had been separated for my document scanner. I took some staples out of some other comics and replaced them with the little plastic things to take to the jail. This is  something others may consider if they have some comics that are just taking up space. Local prisoners want something different to read.

Actually, I was the guy bidding against you on the Space Kat-Ets; I'm very glad it got into the hands of a fellow scanner.  It's NOT an easy book to find; it's one of the three 3-D books that earns a Gerber 8 and I think it's quite possibly the rarest of those.  (Although I actually think the Animal Fun 3-D, which only gets a 7, is just as scarce as the other 3.)  On the plus side, I do have the other two- Super Animals and Peter Cottontail.  They're already at the top of the pile, I'll try to finish them very soon.

Thanks for the book!

Eight years ago I uploaded digital pics of less than half of Gold Medal. I hoped someone would have upgraded by now. Well I guess the book is fairly rare because no one did. I came across my copy and went to scanning. 128 page square bound book is no fun so I hope everyone enjoys it.

School starts in a week so I got some last vacation days scanning done.
I even did a 100 pager Fun Time #1. Along with that comes Dotty Dripple 33 and the ever so odd Noodnik 5

Another Narf scan from a very damaged and incomplete comic.

The Challenger Comics 004 (Interfaith Publishing - Oct-Dec 1946).

The fc and bc are from HA.

The Challenger comics are hard to come by. Fortunately they are not real expensive when found. Most are not aware of them and the excellent art inside.
