If you find any files that have an incorrect file extension, or even any strange file names, let us know the actual name and the name it should have been so we can update it. There might also be occasionally broken links or incomplete uploads which we might need someone to upload again. And as with all large collections of scans there will be missing or damaged pages that we need to note in the comments for the scan so hopefully one day we can get a complete scan.

I don't know the internals as well as Captain DJ and Zog do (and they've been taking a well-deserved break after getting this place into shape), but something in here might be of use:
http://digitalcomicmuseum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1810.0.html
If the site says you're not logged in (I don't think I've seen that before), that could be bad data somewhere. Best bet would be to log out of the site, clear your web browser's cookies, maybe restart the browser just to make sure there's nothing lingering, then log back in and try again.
Before you do that, though, be sure to check the videos linked in the FAQ above, to make sure you registered and logged in correctly. I've been dealing with computers longer than I care to admit, and every once in a while, I still overlook little details like that. (I also spent an hour yelling at some tech support guy, once, because he asked if my cable box was plugged in. Of course I...oh, hey, it looks like the plug slipped out. Oops.)
-
As the FAQ mentions Kay (a link in in my signature below) you must use the Exact same name and pw as you are using here on the forum. If you can login here you should be fine on the download site.
Try John's suggestions and see if that helps.
You aren't the only one that has this happen btw. Checking the error log in the admin section one can see people from time to time needing to try to login more than once before they can download.

I'm taking care of it as we speak, (it does indeed seem to be missing). New copy coming right up.

Thanks for the heads up Len and the fix Geo.

I had to reload it from scratch, something was wrong with the whole thing on it. Should be good to go in a few minutes. Thanks again Len for the heads up on it.

We will have to contact Mr. Peters to get a new file uploaded, (I don't have a copy of it right now).
Update: Email sent to the uploader on this file.

he's been very busy the last couple years, so no problem for me to fill it in this case.
I likely have most of his scans here.
-
"HenryPeters" dropped several of his email addresses about a year ago. I don't feel comfortable posting a valid email address here, but HP's scans are well-loved and quite a few of us probably have any you need.
and BTW anyone here who runs IRC, might drop in on #comicchat irc.irchighway.net where HP hangs out at times.

Smitty 004, posted 8/29/10, downloads error message: 'error loading' Anyone else have this problem?

Hi Larry,
Yes, this contains PNG files instead of jpgs.
I've batch renamed and converted a set and will reupload.
-Yoc
-
Thanks Yoc
How would I be able to download PNG files?
-
They download like any other file Larry but CDisplay wont show them.
Any other viewing app likely could but it was easy enough to convert and reupload them to the site as jpgs.
You shouldn't have any problem with the Fixed version now up.
-Yoc

Thanks for your answer, Yoc.

The Young King Cole v3#3 scan (IW reprint of the Novelty comic) is actually from Novelty's Criminals on the Run v4#5 (already on the site)
-
Thanks Len, I've removed it.
-
Crime and Justice 20, and 23 shows up as this file doesn't seem to exist.
-
Thanks Nobbs, I had trouble with #20 going MIA when I first uploaded it, (had to up it twice before), it looks as if it did it again. Working now on putting both #20 and 23 up, should be back up shortly.
Both are fixed now!!

For the three issues of Atomic War, the Preview mode yields the message "Can't open CBR file."
Thanks for adding Preview. It is extremely useful.

I've come across several comics uploaded by either Larry Talbot or the Digital Comic Museum that have the error message "Can't open CBR File". Not every one, but the majority from the Captain Marvel titles have this issue.

Hi,
I've noticed that the tally totals under the publishers are not accurate.
For example, to give you a simple one, Centaur Comics shows a tally total of 109 and there only seem to be 85 listed under the individual titles. Have some gone AWOL? There are differences under other publishers too and I can give further examples if you need them.
As this is my first post I'd also like to say a big thanks for such a wonderful site and to all the scanners, uploaders and collectors who have allowed their pride and joy to be scanned. This site is a dream come true letting me look at comics I could only dream of ever seeing let alone owning!

There are more than 85 scans in the Centaur section, because there are a lot of unsorted ones at the bottom of the page, below the individual title sections. Were you counting them as well plentycrazy?

;D Found 'em!
Thanks Aussie!

Hi folks- very minor issue: Champ Comics #17 claims to be a c2c scan in the link name but is actually missing ifc, ibc, etc. for a 64 page scan.
http://digitalcomicmuseum.com/index.php?dlid=8565
Wish I had the missing pages but of course I was here looking for them for publication data :-P Thanks for everything!
-
Thanks Henry, I've tweaked the entry.

Hi,
I recently uploaded Tom MIx #55 complete (with the cover as the first thumbnail) but the file is showing that there is no front cover. Did I do something wrong? In which I can re-upload the file if you wish. Please advise. Thanks.
Staunton
-
Hi Staunton,
Nice to see you in the forum!
I just downloaded your Tom Mix 55 as well as Hopalong_Cassidy_05 which does work fine. There is one difference in the files.
Mix has a "thumbs.db" file at the start. I believe if you delete that and reupload the file would be fine.
Note the Mix file works within CDisplay for reading on my PC so you don't HAVE to reupload unless you want to.
EDIT - I just added your other uploads and the files are fine so the AutoCoverThumbnail feature might be buggy on our end. Just be sure your files are jpgs and no other files are in the folder when you zip them. ie thumb.db
Thanks for all your posts these days!

The link to Fight Comics 68 doesn't work for me.

Thanks Doc, we'll ask Len to reupload it.

Hi, want to report that
WITCHES TALES #3 from Harvey
is defective.
Downloaded file won't open with COMICAL.
Preview error as well!
-
Thanks T, I've added it to the list of books needing fixing.
We've got a lot more to go. Mar1, 2008 'DCM' authored scans are usually a problem but not only those.
-
My Witches Tales #3 opens OK with CDisplay reader
-
Ahaaaa...
Didn't know about this software.
Could you provide us with a reliable download source for CDisplay?
Thanks a lot.
-
Hi T,
It's covered in the FAQ as well as in this topic - 'How do I view .cbr or .cbz files? (FAQ)'
Click here to read - http://digitalcomicmuseum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1808.0.html
-
Hi,
I've been doing a few 'fixes' by downloading, changing the extension (usually .cbr to .cbz; sometimes the opposite) and re-uploading (and asking to remove the 'bad' file). Would it be easier to just tell you about them here so that you can change the filename directly?
-
Hi Len,
Very sadly once a file is 'live' on the site we cannot go in and change them. They are locked in as-is. We can only continue to fix them they way you describe which sucks but it's a limitation of the free software we and GAC are using. Perhaps someday CaptDJ can figure out a way to directly edit a file already on the site without needing a complete reupload but until then we will have to depend on the generous work Prime User and now yourself have been doing. Our thanks to both of you once again.
:)
-
I am perhaps working from an older list, but these were on that list as being on DCM but files can't be found. (Maybe they were removed for some reason?)
Dynamic Comics 01 (IW)
Eerie Tales 10 (IW)-digitial pics
Frankenstein 011 (1 story)10pgs
-
A search found them T.
Franky - http://digitalcomicmuseum.com/index.php?dlid=4311
Eerie Tales had a broken link but now leads to Spook 27 which it reprints.
Dynamic is where it always was in their section - http://digitalcomicmuseum.com/index.php?dlid=14883
-
The search function might also be a little better to check than a "list."
-
True, while SEARCH is not perfect it did find them. I had to find the broken link inside one which made perfect sense as it hadn't been updated to point at a fixed file we had recently added.
-
Don't know if this is the right place to post this. There are two files for Jungle Comics 134. Both have the same cover, but the Ka'anga and Camilla stories are different in each. I can't find any clues in the stories that indicate which is correct. The cover names Ka'anga in "The Black Avengers of Kaffir Pass" but neither Ka'anga story makes any reference to this. Can anyone shed light on this?
-
Don't quote me a hundred percent on this, :) but it seems that freddyfly's jungle 134 upload is actually 134, while darkmark's upload is actually two stories from Jungle 139.
-
I'll make a note to check this against my own files when I get home later this week but if Len can confirm his copy I'd go with his as the real book as well. Thanks for catching it Nova.
-
I was looking through Lightning V2:1 and found at least one page out of sequence.
(|:{>
-
Thanks Jim, we'll look into it.
-
The end of the Flying Dutchman story (don't know how many pages) in AIR FIGHTERS V1 N3 is missing. The pages are out of sequence in MARY MARVEL 19.
-
Thanks Kevin,
we will look into them.
-
The pages are not out of sequence in Mary Marvel 19 (well, technically they are), that is the way the book was printed, I went back and checked the RAW files.
The two pages in question, 16 and 21 are the pages on either side of the centerfold. Apparently Fawcett had the plates wrong and printed the pages backwards. (best guess)
-
Hi Kevin,
We did some checking and can confirm that the Air Fighters book is complete. The story does just end with 'What a jerk.' Funny enough it's 8pgs and the GCD lists it as only 7!
Movielover, the editor of the Mary Marvel 19 has confirmed that yes, two pages were reversed but that it was printed that way. You can correct them in your file but for historical accuracy I believe we should keep it as-is and just add a note to downloaders to be aware of the problem.
Thanks for bringing these up. We do want to correct mistakes when they crop up.

Hi,
Not sure if the download counter is malfunctioning, but on the upload of Real Clue Crime Stories v5 006, the views were showing 135 and the downloads as 856?
Dave
-
This is likely some using a download manager to repeatedly try to download the book while not registered or signed in on the site. DCM strongly frowns on such hammering of the site.
-Yoc
-
new Treasure Chest v04 002 is actually v04 020
-
Nope, sorry Larry. I checked the IFC and the contents of v4 #20 already on the site. They aren't the same.
-
You're right, Yoc. Sorry.
-
Hi Folks,
It looks as if Prizes All for Love v2 #1 & All for Love v2 #2 are the same issue, which should be v2 #1 according to the indica in each.
Please check.
Thanks.
Dave
-
Long after the previous discussion...but has anyone considered creating an alternate version of Mary Marvel #19 for the site with the pages swapped into their proper places? Call it Mary Marvel 019 (corrected) or something. Just a thought, since some folks might not know how to do that on their own.
--Jim
-
Dang!
Right you are Dave. The misnamed v2 #2 has been removed.
Thanks for catching it for us.
-Yoc

Hi Jim,
I've asked Prime to upload a corrected Mary Marvel for us.

-
Hi All,
When I was editing the latest version of Young Romance #38 (Prize), I noticed the existing copy on site has an incorrect front cover.
The cover on the issue is for Young Love #38 and not Young Romance.
Thanks.
Dave
-
Hi Dave,
I'm sorry, I don't see any existing scan for Young Romance #38. Are you sure that was the issue in question?
-
Since it was my goof, it was in my User_Cp so I moved it to suspect.
-
Ah. Thanks ML.
I'll let you handle this Ok?
-
?
Working fine when I just checked it.

I hope I'm posting in the correct thread. I just clicked 'preview' for the Spy Smasher Mighty Midget comic (https://digitalcomicmuseum.com/index.php?dlid=2339) and I got this: Warning: rar_open(): Failed to open /home/gac/public_html/downloads/3767816143b48359b43d1b3738ac6ed7.rwd: ERAR_BAD_ARCHIVE in /home/gac/public_html/preview/viewer.php on line 125
Can't open CBR file. Sorry the font changed. I copied and pasted. Is this just me or is someone else seeing this?
-
There is no cover on the issue page. Clicking Preview I got the following:
Warning: rar_open(): Failed to open /home/gac/public_html/downloads/3767816143b48359b43d1b3738ac6ed7.rwd: ERAR_BAD_ARCHIVE in /home/gac/public_html/preview/viewer.php on line 125Can't open CBR file
-
This is happening because the .cbr file is actually a ZIP formatted file. (I downloaded the file and looked at it with a hex editor) The upload should have been named .zip or .cbz.
-
A fixed version is now up, thanks for letting us know it was broken.
-yoc
-
For Hopalong Cassidy #65 the cover is only about one third there in the Preview function.
I did not scan beyond the third page. Don't know if there are more problems.
-
All looks fine to me Erwin. Both it and 75 are good in Preview.
-
I keep having trouble downloading Captain Aero issues(big Miss Victory fans). Instead of downloading as zip files they have downloaded as large documents. Am I doing something wrong? I just click the download button.
-
Have you gotten any other scans to download and work in a reading app?
Please check the FAQ section. Especially 'How to read DCM files' here - http://digitalcomicmuseum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1808.0.html
If you don't have a reader application installed it might well be your system isn't ready to read them.
If all else fails you can still use the Preview feature and read them online.

I downloaded Simple Comic and now I can read the Captain Aero comics. What a relief!
-
Thanks to FreddyFly for the new recreation of Jo-Jo comics.
That said, I could not reach either of the covers using the Preview function. I clicked on the Preview button and got the first story page. Two covers showed up in the page icons. I clicked on the first one, but got the first story page again.
I did not download the comic, so do not know if the archive is complete.

Hi Erwin,
Yeah, it seems the Preview thumbnails do not get updated when new pages are added. We're looking into it.

The link listing all the latest uploads hasn't been working right for me for the last ten days or so:
https://digitalcomicmuseum.com/stats2.php
It tops out at the three Super Duck books back on the 15th.
Any idea what's up, or is it just me?

I'm having same problem.

-Yoc
Just a note to say CaptDJ has found a way for us to update the Preview thumbnails drop-down when uploading upgrades to existing books on the site via Edit.
People uploading via Edit on a book they've previously uploaded should check the box beside 'Reset Thumbnail:'. It's just above the 'Preview' button you have to hit to start the upload process.

This is an odd one guys. I just tried the Last 300 link you shared here and it's working fine for me on the latest version of FireFox and Chrome portable as well as a much older version of FireFox that still works on WinXP.
Can you both try the link on another web browser? Also try hitting Ctl-F5 to force a full refresh of the page.
-Yoc

Tested and working here as well. Sounds like a cache in the web browser but a forced refresh should fix it.

Hah! Look's like that does the trick. Thanks.
Strange, though, as up until recently whenever I hit that link (often on a daily basis) it would show the latest books right up to the minute -- without having to do a refresh. I'm on Chrome on a Mac, BTW.

Link to Charlton Danger and Adventure #25 doesn't work

And fixed last night.
Thanks for the pointer Jon.

Re: Harvey War Victory Adventures Series, not in dropdown.
I have a decent picture of the front and back of Harvey War Victory Adventures #2 front and back cover [ https://www.comics.org/issue/3070/ ] but I don't see it in the "dropdown" under Harvey. Figured it would be a good placeholder until I, or someone else, can hunt one down.
Can it be added or should I not bother with a front and back cover only in the database?
Thank you.
LG
-
Hi LG,
We only create 'folders' for titles when there were four or more issues. Anything less you can find them in the publisher's folder.
In this case, we only have one issue of the title, #3, to share and it's in the Harvey folder.
We haven't shared just covers for missing books. But thanks for thinking of us!
Take care,
-Yoc
