I can't understand how this has gone unmentioned thus far ... so I'll bring it up!

Here's what happened to me today:

I sit down and pull up the latest DCM uploads list ... then ... my eyes bulge in disbelief ... my jaw drops in shock ... I blink to make sure it's not a mirage ... no, they're really there ... not just one, not two, not even three ... but NINE -- count 'em, NINE -- issues of Canada's fabled Triumph Comics, including issue #1!!  Added to the #5 we already had here, we now have issues #1 to #10!  All featuring the saga of Nelvana of the Nothern Lights!!  And all nine posted by one of Canada's and DCM's very own: the venerable Yoc!    However did he do it? (Strange and awesome powers are being wielded here!)

What more can I say except, I lift my glass in thanks, Yoc!

Beating the usual dead horse (disclaimer:  No actual animals were harmed in the typing of this paragraph), did we ever figure out the deal with Canadian copyrights?  I know the current law is Life+50, which would seem to remove these books from consiideration--Dingle, for example, died in 1974, yes?  Do we know these have no copyright protection?

(I really enjoy seeing them, regardless, but...)

Hm.  I don't think it was me, since all the Canadian books make me skittish.  Anybody have any pointers?

The good news, by the way, is that the Canadian Creative Commons group is working on an honest-to-goodness public domain registry, but I assume that won't go live for a few years, yet, and comic books won't be a high-priority item.  And the most recent mention of it I can find was an appeal to Canadian librarians to help with beta testing, two years ago.

On the downside, I found this, which seems to say that the overwhelming majority of Canadian comics are still protected by copyright:

Unless everybody involved died before 1949, all roads seem to lead to either 2049 or later.  It seems stupid, though, that someone who died in 1949 gets another hundred years of copyright protection on his works, whereas someone who dies today only gets fifty.

Don't know.  Many were posted (years back on GAC) under Aussie's watch, and I've yet to find a situation where she came up with a more permissive answer than I did.

I say leave it for the moment (another few days won't kill anybody, since the genie is long out of the bottle) and take it up offline.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but the file appears to be truncated/corrupted. I've tried downloading it here and from GAC, with the same results. When I "extract with errors" I only get the first 32 pages.

Well, the upload is the exact same size.  Snard, try the MEDIAFIRE link if my reupload doesn't work.

I tried again & got the same truncated file as before, but then I realized that all of my download attempts had been with the same browser (Google Chrome). I switched to IE and tried again, and this time the download was the entire file.

One final note: the Mediafire link used to be there, but I don't see it anymore. Maybe it went away when you re-uploaded the file?
