Title: The WANTED COMICS List

*Anyone curious what comics are featured in the Wanted Comics List banner above you can go to this topic. (https://tinyurl.com/y8oka8hf)*

Hi Gang,
Thank-you for checking out the Wanted Comics List.
(1)
(1) This list is a work in progress!

Below is a searchable list of comics we would dearly love to see scanned and shared on DCM someday.

We are always searching for scans to fill holes or upgrade the existing scans that might be small or incomplete.  We're hoping some of you Golden-Age comics collectors out there will consider preserving your books for posterity.  With so many books being slabbed now finding books for scanning is getting harder than ever.  You collectors out there might be our only hope for sharing with the world one of the many books still needed on DCM*.  Even if your book is incomplete or damaged it might be the only opportunity for getting a scan.
(*As of 06.2022 there are 2783 books listed on the Wanted List)

It is possible to scan a book without risking severe damage to your prized comics.  If you can scan it wonderful, please do so at 300dpi but if you can't scan it or are worried about damaging it you can let DCM Staffer and trusted longtime scanner RANGERHOUSE scan it for you.  CLICK THIS LINK to learn more about getting your book scanned. (https://tinyurl.com/ybw8gyw2)

Even if you own GA books that are already on the site please check it against our scan.  If your book is more complete or perhaps in better shape we'd welcome a new 'different version' of the comic.  There is no rules against more than one version of a book being shared on the site.  Many of our older scans were done at a lower resolution than typically shared today.  We'd love to have upgrades for them.

REPRINTS - Some out there might have a book needed on the site but it's a modern reprint.  These can NOT be used on the site.  Reprint collections are under copyright even if they reprint comics that ARE in the public domain.  We can only use scans taken from the original books themselves.

NOTE - the list might need some time to fully load.  Please be patient especially if you have a slower net connection.

This is a comprehensive list of comics which are either unscanned, or for which partial or lesser quality scans exist. The list can be searched, filtered and sorted in various ways, so that collectors can check to see if they have books or scans that we still need help with on DCM.  (Note, if you own a book or scan that you feel is an upgrade to one already on DCM you are still welcome to upload it.  Please read Question 11 in the FAQ here. (http://tinyurl.com/gly3sy5))

See something wrong or missing that you think should be on our list?  Please mention it in a reply below.

If you do happen to have one of the books on the list in your collection please skip down to reply #2 below the tutorial using THIS LINK (https://tinyurl.com/ybw8gyw2).

---
NOTE - we have a tutorial for how to search and filter the list at THIS LINK. (http://digitalcomicmuseum.com/forum/index.php/topic,6943.msg59850.html#msg59850)

Title: Wanted List Tutorial
Post by: Yoc on September 05, 2016, 03:25:50 PM
The list is embedded in this post on the Digital Comic Museum forum. When you are viewing the list in your browser, you will see three sets of controls: Filters, Page Navigation, and Data. The Filters allow you to narrow down the amount of information shown; the Page Navigation arrows let you page forward and back one screen at a time; and the Data is the information for each book.

First let's talk about the Data section.

Data
Note that you can click on the headings for any of the columns, and the list will be sorted by that value. One click will sort in ascending (A-Z) order, while a second click will sort in descending (Z-A) order.

Filters

There are four filters on the left, that let you narrow your search by publisher, title, scan status, and available sources for unscanned books.

For Publisher, Status and Source, you can click the drop down to see the available choices. Initially, the checkboxes for all values are checked. If you hover over a value, you can click on ONLY to show only the rows that contain that value. Alternately, you can check multiple values to show rows that match all of the selected values.

For Title, type in the box and press Enter, and the list will refresh to show all titles that contain the text string that you typed. The text you type can appear anywhere in the title (beginning, middle or end). Also, be aware that the value you type is case sensitive. If you type "captain", it won't find "Captain Marvel".

Page Navigation

Below the Data section, you will see a set of numbers and "<" and ">" buttons on the right. The numbers on the left indicate which books in the list are currently being displayed, and the total number of books present for the current filters that are in effect. For the initial release of the list, the numbers will be "1 - 50 / xxxx" meaning that items 1 through 50 are being displayed, out of a total of xxxx items. If you press the > button once, the window will show the next page, and the numbers will change to "51 - 100 / xxxx". If you use the filter to only show books whose publisher is Avon, the navigation numbers will be "1 - 50 / 89".

At the top right of the window, just below the Source filter, are three vertical dots. If you click this, it gives options for sorting the values by different columns, resetting the filter values to their defaults, and an export function that will let you download the currently filtered set of books as a .csv (comma separated value) text file. (In case you want to print it out for your next comic store shopping trip)
Title: Found someting needed on DCM? - SCANNING!
Post by: Yoc on September 05, 2016, 03:27:54 PM
Hi!
So, did you find something in your collection of books or scans you think we could use?  Wonderful!!   ^-^

Here are some simple steps you need to follow next:

Have you double checked it's not already on the list or the site?
Please be sure to look very close at the Wanted List for your book or scan.   Please check for it or any other issue numbers for the same title on the DCM Download site.  You can use the Search Bar above the DCM banner.  (Warning: the search is picky about spelling, etc.  It is not recommended to use 'The' in any search.)  Even if we DO already have your book please check if your copy is more complete or in better shape.  Or if the existing scan is less than 25mb.  We very well might welcome a new 'different version' of the book.

Are you sure we can use your book or scan on the site?
Was your book published after December, 1959?  If so, we can't use it here, sorry.   :(
If you can't find a single example of your book on the site, then CONTACT US and let us confirm if it's safe for sharing.

Remember, only books that ARE IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN can be shared. Modern reprints are Not Allowed on DCM.

Note: Some books are shared incomplete on purpose.
Famous Funnies - no Buck Rogers can be included.
Popular - No Felix
Crackajack - No Tarzan

If it's a scan you have, can it be shared on DCM?
If you have a CBZ or CBR file (under 120mb) and are a member you can upload it to the site.  We have a tutorial of How To Upload A File to the site at this link. (http://tinyurl.com/yfrkumk)
NOTE:  PDF or 7Zip files CANNOT be shared on DCM.  These type of files can be converted.  If needed use the CONTACT US LINK HERE (http://tinyurl.com/qzupkhc) and we can help.

Is your comic a physical book?
If you own a physical copy of a comic we need for DCM, we would love for you to scan and share it here.  We have a very detailed scanning tutorial for how to scan your own book shared here. (http://tinyurl.com/hnf9gtu)

OR,  you can mail your comic to Trusted DCM Staff Members RANGERHOUSE to do it for you!  He owns an amazing scanner you can see here (http://tinyurl.com/ndtzg5z) which allows them to quickly scan your comic book safely and with little danger to your comic and return it to you.  We can take care of the rest of the steps of getting the book onto the site for sharing.  If you see any books with JVJ in the title, these comic books were sent out to us for scanning by Jim Vadeboncoeur, Jr starting way back in 2008 which has resulted in several thousand scans being shared here on DCM!

Questions or have a book you'd like to send us?
If you have a book you'd like for us to scan, or if you have any other questions, please let us know.  You can use the CONTACT US LINK HERE (http://tinyurl.com/qzupkhc) to send us a message.

Thanks for taking the time to check the list and read the tutorial. It's our hope that we can get as many of these book scanned and shared on the site as possible.

Our heartfelt thanks to MOVIELOVER and A NONNY MOOSE for all their amazing work on bringing this new Wanted List together for sharing on DCM!

This is a great addition to DCM.
My thanks to our members who put this together.
Now to hunt through my books to see if I have any that I can contribute.

Hi DM,
Did it work before?
The list does take a minute or two to load depending on your connection.
I'd give it time and if that fails perhaps try a different browser.

CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT #20 needs to be dumped from the list.  That's the first one I noticed.

I see a mistake.  It's "Spy Smasher" #10, not 9, that has some fiche pages.  An upgrade for #10 is something I'd like to see.
Title: Re: The ALL-NEW WANTED COMICS List

Actually, both #9 and #10 have fiche pages (the former has ifc, ibc, the latter has 2 missing centerfolds). But the list was still incorrect, so I've made the necessary additions/corrections.

Saw some books on the list we actually do have.  The three St. John "3-D comics" issues are actually the 3-D issues of TOR.  The indicia is weird on those

The Wanted List shows 3 unscanned 3-D Comics issues: 2a, 2b and 2c.  On DCM, there are two different scans of Tor 2a and one scan of 2b. However, comparing the front covers of these 3 scans with those on GCD would seem to indicate that the two 2a scans are actually 2a, and the 2b scan we have is actually 2c. One of the 2a scans on DCM is missing the ifc and back cover, and the front cover is a fill from elsewhere.  GCD also states that the 2a and 2b contents are identical, and that the 2b issue was magazine sized, while 2a was comic book sized.

In summary, I think that the DCM issues need to be renamed to be consistent with GCD (assuming that we trust GCD's indexing on these issues). The two JVJon scans should be labeled as 2a and 2c, and the unknown scanner scan should be labeled as incomplete and is either 2a or 2b.  As for the list, I think we can safely remove 2a and 2c, and probably 2b as well, since it's only a magazine-sized reprint of 2a.  Let me know if you agree with all of this.

EDIT: After looking more closely at the JVJon scans for 2a, I see that he included a scan of the oversize cover (i.e. 2b). So that helps with the decision to mark issue 2b as scanned for the Wanted List.

Sounds fine Moose.
I'm a bit confused on the JVJon renaming.  Could you tell me file size and new name for each?
Title: Re: The WANTED COMICS List
Post by: OtherEric on November 03, 2019, 11:07:38 AM
I personally don't think matching the GCD naming in this case is helpful.  All the indicia says in the actual books (and I'm actually checking the physical books here for the magazine size version of the 1st #2, and the 2nd #2) is

Vol. 1 No. 2                 3-D Comics                               Oct. 1953
Vol. 1 No. 2                 3-D Comics                               November 1953

My suggestion for naming would be something like

Tor (3-D Comics) 2a (October)
Tor (3-D Comics) 2b (November)

I don't like using 2a and 2b for the different versions of the first #2 for a few reasons; starting with the fact I don't think anybody knows for sure which of the two versions, if either, released first.  They are editorially identical other than the trim size.  It also makes it seem like there is either 1 or 3 issues worth of content, when in reality there are two.

On the plus side:  If for some reason people feel we still need a scan of the magazine-sized version of the first #2, I do have a copy and can scan it.
Title: Re: The WANTED COMICS List
Post by: Snard on November 03, 2019, 05:51:59 PM
Since DCM links to and displays the GCD information for each book, I think it is inconsistent (and confusing) for the November book to be named 002B in the description, while the GCD text calls it #2 [c]. But maybe it's just me who finds this inconsistent.  I've also noticed that Lone Star is using the GCD numbering/naming for the books they have for sale.

But I will let OtherEric and Yoc decide how to name them. By the way, I have already removed these books from the wanted list, since we appear to have scans of the relevant content.
Title: Re: The WANTED COMICS List
Post by: Yoc on November 03, 2019, 05:58:10 PM
I don't think a new scan is needed if the two are identical otherwise.

Eric, could you please take charge of renaming these and having the GCD # pointing to the proper version?  You know far more about the books than I do.

Thanks!

I have updated the listings.  They all now point to the correct GCD listings.  For titles, I went with Tor 002 (10/1953) and Tor 002 (11/1953), to avoid the a/b/c confusion with the GCD, and with Tor rather than 3-D comics to match Overstreet and, honestly, how people normally refer to them.  I also added notes to the issues explaining the specifics of each issue as best I could.  I will stand by the accuracy of my notes, but would appreciate people checking them for clarity.  Let me know if this works for everybody.

Thank you for updating the list, a nonny moose.

You're very welcome. As long as we are updating the titles/descriptions, I noticed one other thing that should probably be amended. The book titled "Tor 002 (10/1953) (in 3D)(diff ver) -fixed" should mention that the scan is incomplete; it is missing the inside front and and inside back covers. Also, I think the back cover that is included is the wrong page. (It is different than the one on the JVJon scan). From cover scans I have seen on eBay and Heritage, I am pretty sure that the two October versions have the same back cover.

I just uploaded my scans of Tell It To The Marines #3 but it was a zip file, not a cbz file. I don't know if the mods can change it. This is my first time uploading a file to this site and I was excited to see I had a comic that wasn't available yet. I did clean up the scans a little by adjusting the levels and channels but I tried to avoid doing much that would affect the integrity of the original source.

Thank very much BL and welcome to the scanners ranks!

There were only a couple things that you need to know for any future uploads you might do.
Check our FAQ under Question 11 - uploading to DCM.
https://digitalcomicmuseum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1810.0.html (https://digitalcomicmuseum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1810.0.html)

You did everything fine except your jpg names don't play nice with the site (using just two digit numbered files works best) and creating Zip files on a Mac adds a unique folder called [_MacOS] and a file called '.DS_Store' which aren't good for some comic reading apps.  We have suggestions for how to avoid these in the FAQ.

But don't worry, I've quickly corrected the file and uploaded it again so all is good with your First Scan!  Your jpgs were untouched doing this.

Thanks so much for all your work sharing this book with everyone!  :D

I'll check out those links before I upload anything else. Unfortunately I don't have any issues that are jumping out at me that aren't listed already although there are a few I have higher grade and cleaner copies of. My collection of Golden-Age comics is pretty limited but I'm taking more and more of an interest, particularly in certain artists such as Matt Baker, LB Cole, Jack Sparling (etc, etc the list keeps growing). Some of this material the only affordable way of reading is on this site. Thanks for making it available!

Hi BL,
You'll find a lot of hidden gems on the site.  The artists you've named are very cool.
We always welcome upgrades or larger scans of books already on the site.

Take care and have fun finding new goodies on the site.  Let us know what you think in the comments as well.

Need to update some of your Fawcett titles as the Gift Comics were scanned by Larry Talbot this spring of 2019.
The WB copyright issues should either be mentioned or updated if they're on there like some of the Master Comics.

The Fox Blue Beetles should be updated as well. Blue Beetle #32 was scanned by me, although missing an internal back page.

Blue Beetle #47 was digital photos but complete. Blue Beetle #51 was completed with fill scans. Blue Beetle#34 was completed with fill scans.

Just some of the scans that should be updated on your list.

Cheers. Huffle

You could also remove Target volume 1 #7 from the unscanned list to imcomplete. It's up on the site.

I have a few more never scanned that I plan to try and post in coming week or two. I think a few of the Wotalifes are floating around out there.

Not sure where else to post this, but I just finished sorting through and renaming my downloads of the A-1 Comics (Magazine Enterprises), and as far as I can tell, the DCM has all of them but eleven:

7. ft. the Corsair
11. Teena #1
12. Teena #2
18. Jimmy Durante Comics #1
20. Jummy Durante Comics #2
23. Cowboys and Indians #6
43. Dogface Dooley #2
53. Dogface Dooley #4
114.Dream Book of Love #2
115.Hot Dog #2
136.Hot Dog #4

Missing in wanted comics list
Adventures in Romance #2 (https://digitalcomicmuseum.com/index.php?cid=73)

https://www.comics.org/series/19934/

I see it here on Comic Book Plus

Wasn't sure if it was something that could be downloaded from there and put up on DCM.  Looks like Cimmerian32 was last active here in 2016.  I don't want to tread on any toes so I thought I'd ask first before attempting to upload it.
