Hi Gang,
At the suggestion of fellow admin JohnC and others we are starting a new topic that you can help with.
Here we are going to post links and images that mention our favourite comics site - DCM - that have been found out there in the net and in the media.
I started to put this together when DCM was mention on OpenCulture.com back in March and DCM's membership explosion afterwards. If anyone spots a DCM mention out there please add a link or image in a new replay below.
(Yes, this is a tooting our own horn topic but hey, it did take us almost five years before we started it! ;) )
-Yoc
--------------------
2010-05-19 - possibly the first mention of DCM online was in the amazing Walt Kelly blog run by Thomas Haller Buchanan - 'Whirled of Kelly' (http://tinyurl.com/keeghdu).
DCM staffer OtherEric is still often mentioned there as a frequent contributer.
2010-06-06 - Comicrelated.com (http://tinyurl.com/kcpmfty) gives us a mention in their News section.
2010-09-08 - BOING-BOING gave us a less than stellar first review but it lead to our best feature so far - the PREVIEW option! It also led to a huge bump in membership.
Here's a link to a much kinder later one from 2010 when we got another mention. (http://tinyurl.com/qhlawzx)
The second Boing Boing review was also picked up by many sites -
http://www.makeuseof.com/ (http://tinyurl.com/kxdu3ag)
http://www.numerama.com (http://tinyurl.com/2vm9nrs) (in French)
http://www.tor.com/ (http://tinyurl.com/39njf27)
http://researchbuzz.me/ (http://tinyurl.com/ktls9hw)
All of these resulted in a very nice bump in our membership numbers!
2010-09-20 - Cash Gorman and Brit Reid had an interesting exchange on legal status of some scans on DCM on Flashback Universe (http://tinyurl.com/mkru83e). So far we have never been approached by anyone about scan on the site. (knock on wood)
2011-06-00 - DCM gets a small burb in the July issue of WIRED MAGAZINE (http://tinyurl.com/mklcn7j). Sadly they got our URL wrong!
2012-02-14 - DCM member/scanner Tilliban launches his FIFTIES HORROR (http://fifties-horror.de/) website. The first of his empire of precode horror sites and a must see. DCM gets a nice mention.
2012-11-01 - Education blog Free Technology for Teachers (http://tinyurl.com/k8ga2y3) gave us a very nice review.
This was picked up by K-6 ART (http://tinyurl.com/klanpyo) which suggested DCM a good source for "lesson plans in art, art history, design, illustration, graphic arts, U.S. history, propaganda and communications at every level from upper elementary through college."
2012-11-15 - DCM member AMBERJACK starts to feature kid friendly stories on the Junior Dispatch (http://tinyurl.com/l6gjkaa) blog.
2013-12-01 - DCM scanner/editor and donor CBpop runs a nice Tom Corbett Space Cadet (http://www.solarguard.com/tccomic.htm) site which also thanks DCM here.
2013-04-09 - I was interested to find DCM was being used to help teach conversational English on this site - http://tinyurl.com/lvybw3p
2013-06-10 - RazzaTazz (http://tinyurl.com/l2saofo) touts our romance comics collection in their blog.
2013-08-01 - Some time after July the wonderfully generous Craig Yoe (YOE BOOKS LINK (http://www.yoebooks.com/)) offered DCM a free page of advertising in his very cool 'Haunted Horror' anthology series. It appears at the back of #7. Craig also made the same offer to our own JVJ who publishes a wonderful line on the turn of the century artists in his own magazine series.
(http://digitalcomicmuseum.com/images/DCM in media/DCM Ad ver1 -sample.jpg)Thanks again to Craig for doing this for us and to Michael T. Gilbert for letting us use his cool DCM Halloween banner!
2013-08-05 - The Louise Brooks Society (http://tinyurl.com/lvvejfp) gave us a nice write up pointing out Hollywood focused comics on the site like our western comics. Something that doesn't often get mentioned.
2013-10-01 - Mike Madrid publishes his 'Divas, Dames, and Daredevils: Lost Heroines of Golden Age Comics' book. He includes a very nice mention of DCM in his credit page which I'm going to share here. Mike then donated a copy of the book for a raffle in December 2013. It took a bit of work but Poz was finally sent his copy and seemed quite happy with the book. Mike of course is a DCM member and we wish him on the best with this and any future books he writes. He's done a couple since IIRC.
(http://digitalcomicmuseum.com/images/DCM in media/diva01-DCM credit page.jpg)2013-12-23 - Wonderful blog OUT OF THIS WORLD (http://kb-outofthisworld.blogspot.ca/2013/12/diversity-in-comics-anc1-ace-harlem.html) - for a long time was the source for the only partial copy of the totally unique to comics history 'All-Negro Comics #1'. DCM was able to find a copy to scan c2c for the site. OOTW made a nice detailed post on the first story that mentions us while covering some of the cultural reference that likely are missed by modern readers - A second story was featured on this link. (http://kb-outofthisworld.blogspot.ca/2014/01/diversity-in-comics-anc1-sugarfoot.htm)
2014-02-06 - There's a small mention of DCM in the Digital Journal UK blog (http://tinyurl.com/n4u8y6k) -
2014-03-03 - DCM is featured on the OpenCulture.com (http://tinyurl.com/qgzmn9a) blog. The post is picked up by several other blogs and we gain 2000+ new members in the next four days! Amazing!
The OC mention is picked up by several other sites including the DANGEROUS MINDS Facebook page[/u] (http://tinyurl.com/bnfyfu2[u)
As well as The Gusto Blog (http://tinyurl.com/l7vdatd)
And The Onion's A.V. Club blog (http://tinyurl.com/kdldpfh).
The Travelin' Librarian (http://tinyurl.com/jvvt4cu)
All Things Visual: The University of Chicago Visual Resources Center (http://tinyurl.com/n4oyqyd)
and in France at several sites -
http://tinyurl.com/owqgos6
http://tinyurl.com/mtsan48
http://tinyurl.com/ks7kwop
and in Belgium in a popular De Morgen paper (http://tinyurl.com/lv8d9vb).
2014-03-14 - DCM is mentioned as a Resource of the Week on 'This Week in Law' (http://twit.tv/twil)
2014-05-02 - several DCM links in this BuzzFeed op-ed - 'How Censors Killed The Weird, Experimental, Progressive Golden Age Of Comics' (http://www.buzzfeed.com/saladinahmed/how-the-comics-code-killed-the-golden-age-of-comics)
2014-11-19 - Fantagraphics release a wonderful looking coffee-table book Black Light: The World of L.B. Cole (http://www.fantagraphics.com/browse-shop/black-light-the-world-of-l-b-cole-pre-order-.html?vmcchk=1) which gives DCM and several of it's prominent scanners a mention in their credits page.

More to come!

New from DCM member Darci -
2014-12-12 - DCM gets a very nice mention on TheNextWeb (TNW) in their Creativity Channel. (http://tinyurl.com/nth5hml)
Thanks for pointing this out to us Darci!

If anyone out there spots a DCM mention anywhere please post a link to it in this topic, thanks!

(http://cdn.elciudadano.cl/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/comics-80x80.jpg)I've just learned we've gotten another nice write-up this time on French site - hipertextual.com (http://hipertextual.com/2015/01/comics-gratis)
(warning, there might be some not safe for kids/work pictures on this)
This was picked up by a site in Chile - elciudadano.cl (http://www.elciudadano.cl/2015/01/07/137785/descarga-mas-de-15-000-comics-gratis-del-digital-comic-museum/)
From these we've gotten quadruple our usual daily registration of new members.

Over at the Grand Comics Database a search for "Digital Comics Museum" produces 113 results. Most/all of these are for issues marked "Indexed from a scan at Digital Comics Museum."
In addition, on the GCD-Main mailing list, DCM is mentioned on a semi-regular basis.
-
Good to know Bob.
And we've got a GCD link pinned in our links section. I think the two sites compliment each other totally.
-
Tsk tsk. I haven't updated this topic is a while!
I just learned about this book -
(https://pics.librarything.com/picsizes/9c/62/9c62eae0ee56c4f596977626b514141414b4141.jpg)League of Regrettable Superheroes: Half-Baked Heroes from Comic Book History by DCM member Jon Morris who gives us (and CB+) a thank-you at the top of his acknowledgements page at the back.
Members here will recognize most if not maybe all of the heroes he mentions. It's on Amazon where you can see a preview.
One strange fact I've never heard before this book was a possible connection between Amazing-Man Comics #5 (Centaur) and Motion Picture Comics Funny Weekly (Funnies, Inc). There was one issue made and 3 more covers made for MPCFW but there's nothing about a connection on GCD for example. Anyone else hear about such a thing?
-
This qualifies as shameless-self-promotion, but also includes plugs for DCM. For http://www.planetarystories.com I've written some stories featuring public domain comic book heroes. These stories are in the Pulp Spirit part of the site. (As Erwin K. Roberts I have stories in most issues of Pulp Spirit. There's a western, a few private detective cases, two Dr. Watson shorts, and a hero from movie serials.)
Here is the first ever (AFAIK) prose adventure Chesler's The Black Dwarf. See the DCM plug at the end.
http://www.planetarystories.com/dwarf.htm
From Novelty/Curtis the Chameleon calls on the Target & the Targeteers for help. Again the DCM plug follows.
http://www.planetarystories.com/TargetChameleon.html

Having read some of Erwin's work I can recommend them, especially if you are curious to see more behind some of the characters he's listed.

He also does a blog called Gone and Forgotten which is hilarious.

I read that somewhere years ago. Makes about as much sense as anything to explain the odd numbering, but I don't remember where I read the claim.
Looking around I see that Toonopedia mentions it http://www.toonopedia.com/amazngmn.htm
-
Hmm. I wonder where Don got that info from?
-
Found this on the "Next Web Blog", from December 14, 2014. Nice write up...

Thanks B, and it's a very nicely done write up on us covering all the bases and showing some nice examples from the collection.
:)
-
I found a very nicely written blog entry from Jan 2013 by pro writer Christopher Fulbright on 1950s horror comics that gives DCM a very nice mention. Worth a read for sure.
You can see it here - http://christopherfulbright.com/?p=987

I received this book today as part of the LootCrate (http://"www.lootcrate.com") box and hadn't heard about this book before. was surprised when saw the last page which acknowledged us.
-
Hi Capt,
I know that book! Yes, we do get a mention. It's a fun look at some of the more strange heroes of the golden age.
-
Few interesting links that refer to us in some way - found via web stats (majority is in Spanish)
http://www.yorokobu.es/museo-comic-descargas-gratis/

-
Thanks Capt.
The first one is the most interesting trying to cover what DCM is doing to preserve these books before they disappear forever.

Wow, it's been ages since I updated here.
I just heard from a DCM member we just got a mention in 2017 on a site called
supermega: free, made easy at this link. (http://www.superme.ga/2017/06/02/digital-comic-museum/)
It's always nice to know we are well thought of out there on the net.
Feel free to post any other mentions should you find them gang.

I just learned of this very nice page in Twomorrow's Quality Companion from 2012 written by Mike Kooiman and Jim Amish.
It also gives a lot of love to our own Darkmark. :)
I see Twomorrows has this and all their other books on sale right now at 15% off -

Thanks guys!

I've just learned DCM has gotten another write up on the OPEN CULTURE blog yesterday. ^-^
You can check it out at this link: http://www.openculture.com/2018/11/free-download-15000-free-golden-age-comics-digital-comic-museum.html
-
Boing Boing linked to the Open Culture article, which is slightly indirect but will still point people at us. Not the first time Boing Boing has referenced us.
https://boingboing.net/2018/11/22/archive-of-15000-golden-age.html
-
Thanks Eric, I was just about to mention the same thing.
Between them I expect we should see a good bump in membership on the site.
IIRC, it was a semi-negative review on Boing Boing several years back that resulted in our best feature, the PREVIEW function!

Wow, it's been a long time between updates here. From back in March 2019 here's a nice review of DCM on All City Canvas with some very nice words about us.

Dang, another long break between updates here. I'm sure I've missed several.
Here's an old one I just found on Bleeding Cool from May 26, 2014 by Hannah Means Shannon.
She talks about her college course on the history of comic books and American society.
It's an interesting read.
