Hi Gang,
I'm spreading the word on this - TwoMorrows (the best publishers of GA focused material like Alter-Ego magazine and others) needs scans for their future companion. Here's what they sent out:
TwoMorrows needs your help! We will be running the following stories in our MLJ Companion book (on the history of Archie Comics' superheroes), and need high-resolution (300dpi or better) scans of these complete stories. We are about to go to press on it, so if you can help, email twomorrow@aol.com <mailto:twomorrow@aol.com> asap!

> 13 pages: Top Notch #9 (Black Hood debut)
> 12 pages: Zip Comics #1 (Steel Sterling debut)
> 13 pages: Zip Comics #27 (The Web debut)
> 12 pages: Pep Comics #30 (Irv Novick Shield story)
> 11 pages: Pep Comics #17 (Hangman debut)
Some of these are on DCM but the scanners are unknown.

By and large all of our MLJ scans are way too poor to print from. I added ads to many of those scans based on microfiche so I'm familiar with them. I have no idea who did them originally.

Sure, it's a shot in the dark. Fingers crossed they can convince some serious MLJ collector to crack open a coffin for them.

Hi there, new to boards. Must say this MLJ book is terrific though, fantastic companion to Twomorrows' equally great Quality book. Love seeing the non-DC/Marvel publishers of the golden age getting more love.

As it turned out, I had the scans from Shawn Clay.
John asked Archie to provide the scans.
I was an Archie employee at the time and Archie asked me for the scans.
I gave them to Archie who gave them to John, who added them to my book.

And what a GREAT book it is Rik!
Any MLJ fans in particular should give this a read and even if you aren't a big fan it's a fascinating read.
