Title: Ontology's Uploads
Post by: Ontology on June 06, 2010, 01:20:36 PM
I'm back, and I just uploaded 18 of JVJ's book scans to the FTP, mostly Fox and Avon titles. Just check in my folder.
There is also a Crackajack 39 (Dell 1941) w/first comic appearance of Andy Panda in what is obviously a format intended for newspaper strip release. I read somewhere that it was supposedly drawn by Walt Lanz himself.
Jim V., I will finally be returning your box of comics to you! :)

Welcome back Ont !  I just got some mail from Yoc telling me that you've returned to the fold and are "doing much better".  That's great.  And it would appear that you've made yourself quite busy what with 18 scans uploaded to the ftp.  Whew!  Better look like taking it a bit easier on yourself my friend.  Gotta stay healthy you know.  I'm quite sure we all can't wait to see especially what Fox and Avon titles you've been working on.  I for one am.

Thanks so much for all of the Fox books, Ontology! I'm especially happy about those issues of Weird Comics since they haven't turned up too often.  :D

A question about the US Jones #1 issue -- the stories are identical to those that appear in U.S. Jones #2 (while the cover mentions a story entitled "Death on the Airways" that isn't featured. Did Fox mistakenly publish the stories for #1 and #2 in separate issues, or did the content for #2 get mixed up with #1 during the scanning process?

Thanks again for scanning these for everyone (and to Jim, of course)!

What's most likely is that it's a copy of US Jones #2 with a cover from #1. In the conditions that I can afford on these books, it's very possible that I didn't get what I was told I was buying. Sigh...

Sorry. (|:{>

That's okay, Jim. I just noticed it and thought maybe I was losing my marbles.  ;)

But I'm so grateful that you collected these comics (as well as the scanners who are making them available on the site). Otherwise, I doubt I'd ever get to see them at all.

It probably won't be the last time it happens, krankyboy. I do my best to figure out which books I really have, but it's especially perilous with coverless issues. The GCD is filled with "placeholding" data on issues which do not reflect the sequence of the stories nor first hand data on them. Often the seller is just guessing at the issue number.

For the record, most of my coverless Fox comics came from Terry's Comics in southern Calif. and have been purchased in the last five years or so. Terry comes to WonderCon in San Francisco every year and I always check out his coverless selections. Terry, Jim Payette, Dick Swan and Brian Peet of A-1 Comics are the few folks I still buy from - when I have a spare buck or two.

It's getting harder and harder to find stuff I need at a reasonable price...

Thanks for the info, Jim.

I actually just visited the website for Terry's Comics and was surprised at just how expensive the low grade books are getting. I was actually thinking of snapping up a copy of Cannonball Comics #01 (featuring the Crash Kid) to scan for the site, but it looks as though the catalog was old and it may have been bought by someone else. I'll call them and see.

Nevertheless, what I should do is get my act together and set up an account at Paypal to donate to your fund.

Double check to see if I don't already have it, KB. My master list is upstairs, but there should be a list somewhere on GAC of what I've got available - as if I could recall every book I've bought over the last 45 years...

As for the "fund" - it's pretty flush right now, but we've got a lot of boxes coming back which means a lot more will be going out again soon. I just went and did the math and were at: $249.80 which should last for a while based on the pace we're currently at. I think the last boxes went out last OCTOBER thru DECEMBER, which was six to eight months ago.

Yeah, well YOU'RE the one who fell down on the accounting job, Yoc. I'm not real happy that you're making me deal with the real world here. I thought you were my buffer... ;)

Shows what I know.

Peace, Jim (|:{>

Didn't see Cannonball #1 on the list at GAC, Jim. I'll contact Terry's Comics tomorrow and see if they've still got it.  :)

Sorry about all of this confusion Jim.
It's a Very unfortunate side-effect of our split from GAC.  It wasn't planned that's for sure.
And since I can't keep up with the JVJ Lounge anymore I'll have to ask you to keep a tab of the funds and if you wanted to update us here that's great.  By now we all know we can trust each other as far as the books and money.

Take care,
-Yoc

The U.S. Jones "#1" we have uploaded is really #2 with a #1 cover.  Sorry about that.

Just messin with you, Yoc,
I just hadn't really thought about the consequences of keeping up with the balances until yesterday. Not a biggie...

In case you haven't seen the following message posted ELSEWHERE...

A big, belated thanks to both JVJ and Ontology for so many of these, especially for the Fox titles, Crackajack #39, and Blue Bolt Vol.1 #11!

It's been a little while since a nice batch of issues I've been waiting for has been posted.  Oh boy!

Hey Ont, would it be too much to hope that you'll be doing more of JVJ's Blue Bolts in the near future?  Please keep 'em coming, we've got gaps to fill!

'night all!
