Hi gang,
Some artists stand out when looking at the history of GA comics.
One such artist known for the 100s of covers he did for Timely, Nedor and others was Alex Schomburg.
From the late 30's to the late 40's he produced over 500 covers before moving west and concentrating on book and magazine work. During that time he was at the top of his field and reputedly Never missed a deadline!
You can read more about Alex's bio at this link - www.pulpartists.com (http://www.pulpartists.com/Schomburg.html) as well as a 1993 interview with Steve Duin here. (http://archive.today/yPdhS#selection-267.10-267.20) Finally you can read another interview with Timely's 1940's Editor-In-Chief Vince Fago from Alter-Ego v3 #11 on-line here. (http://www.twomorrows.com/alterego/articles/11fago.html) There isn't a lot about Alex but he does relate that Alex was given cover roughs to follow for his work with Timely. A question some have wondered about online. To read about a long lost Schomburg fish mural that was found and restored click here. To see more of of his work online check out these links - djf dumarais' online art of ebook (http://issuu.com/djf_dumarais/docs/alex_s_02), Tumblr gallery (http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/alex-schomburg), Paul Tobin's Favourite Cover Artist (http://www.paultobin.net/?p=2826), Pin-up art gallery (http://www.pinupcartoongirls.com/2013/11/masters-of-illustrations-alex-schomburg.html).
DCM features some of his public domain work in our current banner.

Alex did a LOT more besides these but those can't be shared on DCM or we haven't found scans for them yet. To see a more complete list of his works check on the GRAND COMICS DATABASE with this link. (http://www.comics.org/penciller/name/Alex%20Schomburg/sort/chrono/)
Enjoy the books - and if anyone owns ANYTHING on the GCD list NOT on the site (that is public domain) please let us know! You can use the CONTACT US LINK HERE (http://digitalcomicmuseum.com/support/index.php) to reach us. We can even suggest a fast and trusted staff member to scan your book for you if needed. DCM's goal is to scan and digitally preserve ALL the public domain comics out there for sharing on the net.
Take care all,
