The King Comics display in #3 of the latest batch is from around August 1939. That's the August 1939 issue of Astounding Science Fiction, with Virgil Finlay's only cover for the title.  More importantly, it features Robert A. Heinlein's first story.

I've spoiled you by being too good at this.  ;)

Ha!  And here I was thinking maybe I was taking the fun out of it by listing so much in other pictures.
Thanks very much for finding so many SS.  I'll pass the info along to the posting on the Facebook page.

Historical Newsstand and General Store Photos - a May 1946 example
« Reply #21 on: September 02, 2019, 12:08:08 PM »
Hi Gang,
I'm very sorry I haven't been able to return to this photos project in quite some time.  Real life has a habit of getting in the way of fun things like this.

Here's a new newsstand photo that was shared by Michael T. Gilbert of Mr Monster fame and good friend of DCM on his Facebook page.  I'll include his intro as well.

http://digitalcomicmuseum.com/images/forum message pictures/newsstands/1946.05-MTG.jpg
MTG: "Okay comic fans. Here's a pic I saw online recently...a comic book rack display with comics from May 1946. My question: Assuming all the comics are worth exactly the same, and you could only choose one to buy with your dime, which one would you pick?"

I'll leave the comic spotting to SuperScrounge if he's still checking in and willing.

Probably take a day or two, but May 1946 seems a little late for that issue of World's Finest #21.

Sorry it took longer than I thought. Had less time available to look.

Interesting span of time these books cover, some listed to have come out in October 1945 & some as late as June 1946.

Where was this newsstand? Some of those books are Canadian.

Wow, impressive SS!
Thanks so much for all the detective work on this.  I'm not sure where the newsstand was.

Thanks!  :)

I used Mike's Newsstand & the GCD to figure them out.

Some are interesting, such as the book in Row 4 which seems to start with the letters JAP. The only comic the GCD lists as being in that time period is the British book Japhet & Happy Annual, but they don't have a cover scan of the 1945 & 1946 books.
