Terry and the Pirates: Vol.1-#26 1951 & 1955 ~ What's the diff?
« on: January 10, 2016, 09:28:35 AM »
1951 Terry and the Pirates: vol.1 #26
1955 Terry and the Pirates: vol.1 #26

I'm confused and looking for some kind of answer.

I have two Terry and the Pirates comics which both claim to be vol.1 #26

One is from
1951 by Harvey and Milton Caniff,
and the other is from
1955 by Charlton and George Wunder

So how can they both say vol.1 #26 at the bottom of the title page?
Also, Wikipedia says Caniff left the strip in 1946 which really adds to the mystery.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Different publishers, different numbering, although the Charlton series continues from the Harvey, so I would expect it just to be sloppiness on the part of Charlton.

As to why still Caniff, old strips, maybe

You can also go to the Grand Comics Database and do a search for Terry there and learn more about the various books with Terry.

Thanks guys.

I doubt it was sloppiness as the statement of ownership was the most important part of the publication in those days... but who knows for sure? It might be that simple.

The database search @ comics.org is intense... that will take me a while to fully appreciate.

One clue from the database comments are that these are recycled strips, so anything is possible.
