LIGHTNING JIM Whipple, U.S. Marshal

It started as a local California radio show in 1938.
Then it was picked by print media: Whitman Better Little Book, Whitman Penny Book, and...

The Funnies
Super Comics

Du Bois's work on "Lightning Jim Whipple, U.S. Marshal"

Gaylord Du Bois's earlier account books were lost in a house fire; his surviving account books date from mid 1943.

Gaylord Du Bois's surviving account book show just four Lightning Jim entries, all paid in 1943. They hint at earlier credits.

Lightning Jim.  6p.  For Dec. issue of ___.  Paid July 9, 1943.
Lightning Jim.  6p.  For Jan. issue of ___.  Paid Aug. 14, 1943.
Lightning Jim.  6p.  For Feb. issue of ___.  Paid Aug. 29, 1943.
Lightning Jim.  6p.  For Mar. issue of ___.  Paid Sept. 12, 1943.

These Account Book entries give the dates paid.

The strip begins in ...

Combining GCD indexed and cover mentions, there's:
1.) The Funnies #31, 32, 34, 35, 36, 38, 40 - May 1939 to February 1940
2.) Super Comics #41, 48, 49, 52 - October 1941 to September 1942

The Account Books entries for Dec. issue, Jan. issue, Feb. issue, Mar. issue = Super Comics # 55, 56, 57, 58 ?

Was there a newspaper strip for the earlier episodes in The Funnies?
Was this house-produced by Whitman from the start?

DCM - The Funnies - not allowed beyond the first 29 issues - Dang!
DCM - Super Comics - no issues - Dang!

Sorry Dave.  This is not my area of expertise.
Perhaps someone else here can help.

Since the radio program has lapsed to public domain, I don't see why the LIGHTNING JIM sections of The Funnies #31-40 & Super Comics #41-52 cannot be allowed on this site.

Can anyone explain it?

I agree IF you can show the radio shows have lapsed - post a link please - then no, there's no reason those stories couldn't be collected into an archive and shared on the site.
