Where do fiche come from?

(1/4) > >>

sandmountainslim:
I understand the comics on the site labeled paper are from scanned paper copies and the ones marked fiche are from microfilm but where do these microfilms come from and when/by whom were they placed on film??
I am guessing they are filmed copies of old print issues from various libraries etc?
What's the story on them?

misappear:
There was a company back in the day called Microcolor or something like that. They marketed a tremendous amount of GA material on fiche, and also sold a microfiche reader for viewing. I can't recall how much the stuff sold for, but I received a bunch of the fiche and a reader from the company as a "demo" type thing through my job.  It was a little clunky by today's standards, but there were not the options back then that we have now.  I probably still have a buch of these little devils laying around in a box somewhere.

larrytalbot:
I have a 4 page catalog from Micro Color from the 1990s with price listings of their microfiche reader ($225), reader accessories, & listings of available GA microfiche scans  ($32 per card of 5 comics). The catalog has a full-color cover showing the reader & cards. If anyone's interested I could send it here, but need directions on how to do that.

narfstar:
Hopefully it can be posted here and most certainly we would be happy to post the scans on CB+

Yoc:
I expect the catalogue is copyrighted.
It's best to just share it at CB+
