Ger Apeldoorn scans
« on: February 17, 2012, 09:36:50 AM »
I was typing away today and used part of my time to do a rough scan of Price Comic Wester #115, with three Marv Stein stories and one Drifter story by Mort Meskin. I have 18 double page scans at 300 dpi each. Anyone want to order and upload them for me? If you give me your email adress, I will send them.

I got you raw scans Ger.  They appear to be out of order though with the ifc, ibc in the middle and the cover at the end of the set.
I'll play detective and try and figure out the proper order.

Yeah, they are:

18 = middle spread
17 = back and front
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8,  = from middle to end
9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16,  = from start to middle

Thanks Ger, that saves me a lot of time!
How about if we do another you just go front to back pgs 1-18 just to keep it simple for me.

I'll let everyone know when the edit is done.

Is there a reason there are so few Young Romance and Young Love books uploaded? Next up for me is Young Romance #6.

Two simple reasons Ger. No one has them or no one has scanned them yet  :D They are most welcome and actually seem to be pretty popular. With a mostly male crowd the romance books were looked down upon at one time. I have a lot of lower condition books in my classroom. I get responses from having romance books there. This crowd, of course, recognizes their worth.

Thanks for you scans Ger.
Yep, we'll share any title in the public domain from before Jan 1960.  But someone has to scan and upload them first.

Expect your Prize Western to go up later this week when I have high-speed access again.

So it seems I am going to be the Prize guy for the next few months. It fits in with my wish to bring Mort Meskin to the front of everyone's mind. I came across Meskin when I started collecting Prize romance and crime books for Jack Kirby. I guess the double fun it is for Kirby and Meskin collectors makes it so popular the last few years. When I started buying them, they were expensive ($15 to $20 each in good condition), but when I looked today to see if I could fill some holes, I saw they had doubled in price.

Well, I have about 40/50% of them, so I can add a lot here. And I probably will sell them afterwards and use the money to get the rest.

I'm very much a Meskin fan and certainly look forward to seeing them someday Ger.
Feel free to email me more raw scans as you make them for edits.

I will. I should also try and make a opening or closing card with credits the way jvj does. I like those. And it is a way to put my name (or at least my blog's name) on the scans without defacing them.

Hi Ger I am sure you are aware that most are not indexed at GCD so any you can put on would be great. Terry ( a JVJ recommended dealer) has several of the Prize Romance books and even offers a 70% buy back.

Thanks for the tip! I have bought a lot from Terry and I think I am still on his list. It might be possible to offer him the whole lot for a nice barter deal when I am done scanning and indexing. I have indeed started to upload my old romance records to the GCD. Why have they never adopted Harry Mendrick's complete records? Is that because he has to offer them first?

That would be my guess. GCD is very careful not to "steal" other peoples work.

I just sent about twenty of my own records to them. I try to keep things simple, so I usually use the slow route, but they should appear in a couple of months.
