The New 52 BB is almost the same as the old BB except in one facet. The new Beetle is not a humorous title. The storyline and all is pretty much the same. Beetle is in reality high school student Jaime Reyes who was given powers by a cosmic blue beetle/scarab thingamajig that can communicate with him telepathically. He has a buddy named Paco and a crush on Brenda, another student whose Aunt is a criminal mastermind.
But new Beetle is about a tragic figure as there is lately. He recently left his hometown so his family and friends won't get injured on the sidelines of his recent super-powered battles. He has mortally injured his best friend, ruined his house (and Brenda's) and even kidnapped from his own living room.
Old Beetle always had a wise crack or two about a situation but this new one just is mirthless as a tax form.
I am curious to see if he will cross paths with the new Teen Titans though. He has met all the requirements:
*cast out from society
*hunted by larger organisation
*emerging super-powers
