“Ace Horror” website
« on: February 14, 2012, 08:36:36 AM »
(it is more of a coincidence, really, but I dedicate this as a Valentine’s to our beloved DCM)

For a year now I have studied Ace’s horror comic books.
I have read them all. I have scanned all the missing ones and uploaded them here at the DCM.
I have spotted all the artists (with encouraging help from Jim Vadeboncoeur, Jr.).
I have indexed all of them at Grand Comics Database. And I have poured all my thoughts and findings into a new website:

Click here -> ACE HORROR! or See link at the bottom.

This website is meant as a demonstration how to present comics history on the internet.
What you can accomplish by combining data from DCM and GDC.
How to keep the spirit of these comic books alive, how to cherish their memory and how to showcase wonderful artwork by unduly forgotten artists.
This is gonna knock your socks off…
Enjoy.

Very nice job sir.

Excellent Valentine's Day gift to us all.

Appreciate both the fine job you've done on the Ace website and your work scanning the books for everyone here at DCM (as well as your accompanying banter on the forum).

I'm seeing and learning so much more on this company thanks to you (and JVJ) these last few months.

Best

Joe

Hi T,
I can't find the site.  Your URL didn't include any '.com' or whatever.
Could you post it again and I'll fix your first message.

Ok sorry T.
I missed the 'Link at bottom' part.
I'll still make the middle one a working link for you.

Thank you, YOC, as always.
I maybe able to construct a big horror website, but am just too stoooopid to set a link right.

No worries T.
You've got a great looking site here!

Btw, there's a typo in this sentence -
"It’s a sad footnote of comic history that the avant-garde of Ace left business in 1955. So did fellow colleagues George Appel, Richard Case, Al Eadeh, Maurice Gutwirth, Lin Streeter und Bill Walton. Never drew a comic story again. Not necessarily on voluntary terms."

This sentence needs a space added -
No wonder this artist has been mistaken for Gene Colan or Bernie Krigstein. There is a „flow“ to his illustrations which wehave seen in these other masters

---

David Hajdu’s “The Ten Cent Plague" list of artists that left the field has been cited as quite suspect as well.  I think JVJ pointed out some problems with it when it was published.

Take care,
-Yoc

I am grateful if you point out those "Germanisms" to me.
Will correct that, can't just now. Experiencing glitch in the edit-mode. Hmmph.

A fantastic web site! While my opinion of the Ace comics may be a notch down from yours, I totally agree that those comics are under-appreciated and deserve more attention. Your new site provides that. An excellent public service.
