JUSTICE TRAPS THE GUILTY #57

There's Bill Molno in it, as far as I can tell - and Jack Kirby's version of the TRUE story of Wilbur Underhill, better known to you all as "The Tri-State Terror"! Ceased his activities due to his death in 1933.

Definitely Molno on the second one, Tillman, but it's Mort Meskin (not Kirby) on Tri-State Terror and that's Marvin Stein on the cover and the first story.

FWIW. (|:{>

Will send Ace Crime next week.

--- Quote ---Asked JVJ to send me a batch of ACE crime books. So there may be more crime underway!
Will return the next days with a new horror book, of course.

Ayayayayayay...
That's why I'm just an amateur.
Mistaking Meskin for Kirby.

Found a hidden signature for Sy Grudko though...
(in “Wanted: Ghost Writer” - Beyond #18) - fourth line on the newspaper in the splash.
Jim, you mentioned his name - and he's really there.
Maybe he did most of the 1952 one-page fillers...

For today let's enjoy this fine issue:

BAFFLING MYSTERIES #22

It's a grey and rainy autumn day here in Germany and I feel like having been drawn by Louis Zansky...
And thanks for bringing on the ACE crrrrime.

It is always a RELIEF, Tillman, when someone discovers a sneak that confirms an ID that I have made. Does anyone realize just quite how weird it is to look at these old comic stories and think that I know who drew them? It's tres bizarre - very nerve-wracking as I'm verbalizing a combination of gut-feel, past experience, name memory and artistic/stylistic knowledge. And I know that those abilities seem rare in comics fandom. Why is that? And how long will I be able to do it before the memory goes. It's already (as Tillman will attest) getting harder and harder to dredge up the names that go with the styles - and there's no "reference" books that will take you from a style to a name. Sigh...

Maybe I should quit while I'm still able to see Sy Grudko and remember his name.

Crime books in the mail tomorrow.

Peace, Jim (|:{>
