TMIH - Digital 'remix' - your thoughts plz
« on: March 08, 2011, 03:22:26 PM »
Hi everyone,

I just posted a similar topic at GAC, but thought I could find some opinion here as well...

A while ago I stumbled upon golden age comics and immediately fell in love with This Magazine is Haunted. (My favourite tale is 'The Wig' from issue #14 vol 1) - it's such a great story that I decided I have to bring these somehow over to the age of digital displays.
So after months and months spent literally in photoshop and indesign I got something I'd like to show you, and would be great if I could get your opinion on this:

Please tell me, honestly, what do you think?

cheers

Hi airpoint,
Interesting stuff.  I don't own an iPhone or other iDevices to try your works on but I think I see what you are after here.
It's not the original.  You're tailoring the story to the devices and compensating for the smaller screen by redoing the text more as subtitles would appear than as traditional wordballoons, etc.
At first I was slightly offput by the technique but again, given the devices limited screen size I can see this is a nice compromise for letting people read a fun story without going blind or scrolling around from panel to panel on trying to view the original page.
It's not the same as a comic but then this is what people are using these days for reading media.  For them I bet they would love all the work you've put into adapting the story.  No small task I bet.

Personally the limited screen size is exactly why I've not bought one of these or an iPad.  I will wait for one of the 100 or more future tablets in the works.  Hopefully one of them will have a decent screen size and long battery life!

GL with your site!
:)
