What are your favorite pre-code horror/ or crime comics?

comicOD:
Just out of curiosity.

I'm not really sure how big the pre code horror and crime genres are with
most people here. Would like to know that, as well. Are there any
other PC horror/crime comic fans on here?

Obviously there are, or the comics I'm mentioning would never be uploaded? ;)

jfglade:
I do have a fondness for some of the EC comics which aren't available here, namely "Shock Suspenstories" and "Two Fisted Tales" (which is neither crime nor horror). I do enjoy "Guns for Gangsters" which is in the crime genre but really isn't typical, and I have read my share of "Crime Doesn't Pay" which is the flagship title of the genre.

Harvey has some of the titles that had some of the most extreme horror stories and I can't say I really care for them. Charlton published some nice early Ditko stories and "The Thing," and it is a book I can generally recommend. A lot of ACG is junk, but it is entertaining junk.

josemas:
I've recently been reading through some of the Ziff-Davis horror titles available here on the site such as Weird Thrillers and Eerie Adventures and have been consistently impressed with the artwork.

Fox's Women Outlaws, while not particularly strong on good art, is a crime title that has some mean shootem' ups that I'm sure outraged the authorities looking to ban comics back in the day.

Best

Joe

jfglade:
I forgot to mention "The Unseen" which was Better/Pine's morbid contribution to the horror genre.

I haven't paid much attention to the Ziff-Davis books. I'll have to check them out.

narfstar:
ZD had some really awesome covers.
