For once, when I saw Obituaries had new messages, I didn't have to wonder who for.  Farewell, Stan.  We owe a good part of our childhood to you, and a lot of years beyond.

A good life and career.

I read thru the obit to find this:  "He drew over 8300 illustrations for Martin Sternberg’s “American Sign Language: A Comprehensive Dictionary,” published in 1981."

Now, I will pass the link on to my daughter who is an A.S.L. interpreter. Serendipity!

Agreed, Yoc. And somebody who knew and understood his career wrote a fine and detailed obit.

Bald's Dr. Killdeer appeared in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch while I was growing up. Definitely excellent art and stories.

Very sad!  ERK was a wonderfully gifted artist.

You can read about him also on this Comics Journal obit:

I'd never heard of the gentleman. So I hopped over to read his stories in Blue Ribbon Comics. Mr. Bulthuis lived 100 years of what sounds like a pretty good life. RIP

J.C. Bulthuis also has a few comic book credits in the early 1950's – Under Two Flags for Classics Illustrated #86 (August 1951) and a couple of horror/mystery stories for Stanley Morse.
