This is very, very sad news.

I've just read that EC great AL FELDSTEIN has passed away.

A true giant in the industry.

I joined LinkedIn a couple years ago. I did a search for colleagues and saw he was also on the site. He was gracious enough to link up with me and send me a few correspondences.

He will be truly missed by myself.

B.

Isabelle Daniel 'Barbara' Hall Fiske Calhoun, best known for her work (as Barbara Hall) on 'Girl Commandos' and 'Pat Parker, War Nurse' during the Golden Age of Comics, died this past Monday, April 28, 2014 at age 94 in a nursing home in White River Junction, Vermont, not far from the Center for Cartoon Studies. Her daughter Ladybelle and son in law Brion were with her for the last days of her life. She died peacefully and without struggle. Drawing and painting remained her main interest in her final days. 'Art is prayer,' she frequently said."

A late obituary,  Bhob Stewart in February on the 24th. He was credited with inventing the term "underground comics". He was 76. More on the link below.

We've lost another of the legends IMO.

DICK AYERS (ME, Marvel) passed away on May 4th.

(April 28, 1924 - May 4, 2014)

There is a nice interview with Dick from Sept. 2001 from Alter-Ego v3 #10 can be read here -
http://www.twomorrows.com/alterego/articles/10ayers.html

I fell hard for Dick's work on ME's Ghost Rider comic.  Wonderful fun that you can read on DCM here -

It's a sad, sad day.

I had a very nice session with Mr. Ayers at a convention about 2 years ago. He was there for a signing, and I brought a copy of a book (can't for the life of me remember which, but I think it was a Sgt Fury in which Dick drew both himself and Stan Lee into the story).  He wasn't/couldn't talk, but his daughter was with him, and he was happy, and so pleased to have fans attending to him.  Great guy!  So sad to hear of his passing.

Mike Allred was also there with his wife, Laura.  I love his '60's stylings, blended with his fun/cool sensibility.  They chatted with me for hours. VERY fun.

Obituaries - Stan Goldberg, R.I.P.
« Reply #101 on: September 01, 2014, 12:49:40 PM »
I hate updating this topic.
It's being reported that famed Archie artist Stan Goldberg has passed away.
He did a TON of work for them as well as much for Marvel.

I'd like to say thank you to Irwin Hasen who passed away this week at 96. Along with his remarkable long career in comic books, comics strips and illustration he was one of the first artists to teach at The Kubert School. One of my fondest memories of Irwin was sitting between him and Tex Blaisdell at my graduation party while they talked about their careers and encouraged me as I was just beginning mine. Irwin always celebrated life and will always be a great inspiration for me!
