> On January 12, 2011, cartoonist Martin Filchock is going to turn 99. He worked for Centaur Comics in the 1930s, creating many characters such as Mighty Man (later Mighty Man and Super Ann), Fire-Man, the Owl, the Buzzard, the Ermine, the Headless Horseman, Obo Ossie, and Huck P. Shaw, the Corn-Fed Constabule. Today, he is still drawing and selling cartoons to local newspapers in Rogersville, Tennesee, as well as national publications such as Readers Digest, the Saturday Evening Post, and Highlights for Children, where his "Check and Double Check" feature has run for many years.
>
> Martin says his goal is to get into the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest working cartoonist, a record currently held by caricaturist Al Hirschfeld, which Martin will achieve in August.
>
> Anyone wishing to send him a card or birthday wishes can write to: Martin Filchock, 1376 Spruce Pine Rd, Rogersville, TN 37857-7400

I got the date wrong. Martin's turning 99 on 01/06, this Thursday. I'd better get my card in the mail tonight!

Here's another one.  I don't know the artist but he can draw pretty good and does commissions.

Roygbiv666:
I actually started some commissioning (?) and will be placing them here as I get them:

http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryDetail.asp?GCat=56510

(I think that's the public address).

So far, I only have one back (The Grim Reaper), but have one to come from Hembeck, another one by Michael Mikowsky, and one from Mitch Ballard.

Mitch also did a drawing (to be revised and inked) of some of my own characters (with a couple PD updates) here:

http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=714875&GSub=87567

Plastino (see earlier post) is tres expensive, but I have a pretty good idea, just have to print the reference material and get a money order to him.

Yoc:
Very Cool Grim Reaper Roy!
Please let us know when you get anything more.
I'm a big fan of Hembeck and I'm sure he'd love to do some GA characters for you.
