Photo's described as scans

(1/1)

rob:
I don't know if this subject has already been discussed but I'm puzzled by the (rather hurried and obviously not under glass) photo "scans", especially as excellent and durable printer-scanners such as Epson were or are so cheap in my experience (presumably the idea being that you buy certain inks for life). I guess in some cases there was limited time to borrow and photograph the comic, but there should be a note saying they are not scans and need upgrading. Thanks anyway it's certainly better than nothing!

And we are thankful to anyone that is willing to share their books with us.
I think 'scan' has become a generic term these days.  Photo scans have become more common as smartphones became ubiquitous in world.  The risk of damage to a book is less so people are willing to take a photo more than a 'real' scan.  The odds on many of these rarities ever getting a scan are so small we're happy to get them in whatever format the owners are comfortable with.

All this makes us again acknowledge how lucky we were when JVJ approached us and trusted strangers with his fantastic collection.  Freddyfly and Henry Peters and so many others have helped grow the DCM collection to four times what it was when we started the site back in 2010.
Thanks so much to ALL you scanners and editors out there, you guys are amazing!
