Wasn't the first serial billed as "Edgar Rice Burroughs' Jungle Girl"?
Burroughs did write an adventure serial called Jungle Girl, although it was retitled The Land of Hidden Men for book publication.
Was there ever any actual connection? Were any of Burroughs characters or plots used in the films or the comics?

You might be right about the first serial's name but from what I've read (see the links at the end of the announcement) the ERB plots were not used.
