#1 - The Adventures of Detective Ace King (Humor Publishing Co., 1933)
Copyright registered on October 16, 1933 this and two other Humor Pub. books predates Superman's debut by quite some time.  Humor's three books were the first devoted to a single theme, with a single character using all original art.

#2 - Bob Scully, The 2 Fisted Hick Detective (Humor Publishing Co., 1933)
In 1933 Siegel and Shuster, after years of failing to sell their Superman newspaper strip, had a deal with Humor Pub. to publish their Superman character as a comic fall through before it would end up with DC in 1938.  See the 'Detective Dan' scan (link below) for more on the Superman connection with Humor Pubs.
