Synopsis: Hairdresser Lois falls in love with photographer Rex, but her habit of spreading gossip without thinking about the consequences causes Rex to break up with her. Lois apologizes and tries to make amends for the damage she has caused. Rex says he’ll give Lois another chance.

Synopsis: Nurse Carla is suspicious and distrustful of everyone. She and Dr. Dick fall in love, but Carla later thinks he’s having an affair with her roommate Alicia. Carla tells Alicia’s boyfriend Eddie and they crash into the apartment, only to discover Alicia and Dick were preparing a surprise birthday party for Carla. Alicia moves out and Dick breaks up with Carla. A grateful patient gives Carla a check for $5000 but instead of using as “an escape hatch from a lonely existence that had become unbearable,” she donates it to medical research. Dick learns of this and takes Carla back.

Comic Story (11 pages) Portrait of Julia
Synopsis: Julia has a superior attitude and criticizes everyone else, claiming she could do better at everything: baking, painting, acting, etc. Her boyfriend Donald goes along with her boasts. Julia falls in love with museum art director Lance, but he eventually breaks up with her because of her “stupid bragging and criticizing.” Julia deprecates Lance to Donald’s mother, who is on the museum’s board of directors, and Lance is fired. Julia confesses her errors to Mrs. Ditmark and she reunites Lance and Julia.

Comic Story (10 pages) I Was Possessive
Synopsis: Amy and her widowed father live on a farm. She falls in love with hired hand Vince, but doesn’t “want to share him with anyone else.” Amy turns down multiple chances to meet Vince’s friends and he finally breaks up with her: “a love that is chained to the earth withers there and dies.” Afterwards, Amy vows to change if she gets another chance. With Vince gone, Amy’s father decides to sell the farm. He returns and introduces Amy to the new owner: Vince. Amy and Vince will be married.
