Madeleine’s brother Willie beats Jim in a match and Jim vows to change his life and marry Madeleine.

Synopsis: Stenographer Gloria tells her story to her boss, publisher DeWitt. She and editor Jack fell in love. Gloria betrayed fellow worker Nancy in order to get a promotion from DeWitt. As a supervisor, she drove her staff mercilessly and this carried over into her daily life. She was in line for promotion to office manager, but Jack learned what she did to Nancy (a war widow with two children) and broke up with her. Mr. DeWitt fires Gloria and says her confession was all for nothing: Jack left for the West Coast that morning.

Meanwhile, Steve is approached by a mysterious woman named Anne, who goes out with him but refuses to reveal anything about herself. As it turns out, Anne is actually Murdock's client Helen, and he had been romancing her until he met Carol. Both Carol and Murdock’s schemes are exposed. Helen and Steve are in love.
