Willie Williams on Facebook also owns a copy of this Fox Giant. Here's his post:
Starting in 1948 and ending in 1950, Fox Features published several giants consisting of four 32-page ten cent coverless rebound comics with a new cover attached. The coverless comics were selected at random but usually if the cover were that of a crime comic cover, most of the comics rebounded in that issue would be crime comics. The giants sold for $0.25 and on the cover of each was a banner stating that the book contained 132 pages (128 pages for the four coverless comics and 4 pages for the cover.) However, Fox Features published one giant containing 148 pages, Almanac of Crime. In addition to the four rebound comics, it also contained a 17-pages of reprints: • ‘Cattle Kate’ from Woman Outlaws #1, July 1948 (9 pages, starts on inside front cover of giant) • ‘Kiss of Death Kate’ from Western True Crime #15, August 1948 (7 pages) • ‘Gang Leaders’ from Women Outlaws #1, July 1948 (1 page) Since Fox Features usually started the first story on the inner front cover, each of the rebound comic’s first story is missing the first page. My copy also contains rebound copies of: • Dagar Desert Hawk #19, August 1948 • Crimes by Women #2, August 1948 • Teger, Jungle Empress #1, August 1948 • Famous Crimes #2, August 1948 |
