 That is a good link Yoc posted, in that it feature a roundup of most golden age heroic characters (and some notable villains), but doesn't concentrate on DC and Timely/Marvel comics material which isn't hard to find information about.

  The books themselves are the best research material available; as a professor in a course on Chaucer and Middle English writers stressed over and over, the first and final source in any research effort in literary topics is always the original text.
