Hi Gang,
For this month of May 2015 every user who donates will be given FTP access as an alternate method to download files from the Digital Comic Museum.
For each dollar donated they will receive 5 gigs of file downloads over the next 31 days from the day the donation was made.

Click on the Donate link here  to contribute to the cause and receive your FTP login info in an email.  Please be sure your DCM profile email address is working first if you aren't using an active address.

It's been just over a year since we had our first FTP Access Month.  This was run as part of the 4th Anniversary event and was a remarkable success.  Donors to the site are vital for keeping our server bill covered.  The first FTP drive helped build a reserve fund for those months we come up short in our monthly goal of $288.

DCM is a built on four pillars.  The physical comics and those that buy and share them, the scanners/editors of those comics working many hours to share their scans, the staff working hard behind the scenes and the financial donors who give their money to keep our servers running.  Those financial donors don't get nearly the recognition that the other groups do but are easily as vital to keeping DCM a healthy site!  As a thank-you to donors this month we are offering our second FTP Access month!

++++++++++++

To quote CaptDJ from last year here are the specifics -

Details are as follows:
For every donation you will be given access to the FTP for a month from the donation date. Due to costs, bandwidth etc download limits will be put in place.
For every $1 donated during May you will be given a download limit of 5 GB for the following 31 days.

So lets get on to some examples....
* Bob donates $1 to DCM and for the next 31 days is allowed to download 5GB in total.
* Jane donates $10 to DCM and for the next 31 days is allowed to download 50GB in total
* Barry donates $1 and then $5 at a later date. Barry is given a 5GB limit for 31 days. When he donates again for $5 his 31 day timer is reset back to 31 days and an extra 25GB is added to his current download count.

How to get set-up:
1. Once you have donated to the site you will receive an e-mail with the FTP details, username and password. This e-mail will arrive within 5 - 10 minutes of sending the donation.
Note: At the moment this is a manual process so please allow 24 hours for this e-mail, thou hoping to get most turned around in 1 - 2 hours and this will be automated once everything been tested and we are sure it fully works.
2. Read the e-mail as this contains all the important information you will require.
3. Enter these details into your FTP client and start downloading the files.

Rules / Information / Terms:
* Your donation to DCM is a donation to the site, it is not a payment for FTP access. FTP access is given as a gift to you for helping us out.
* Do not share your account details with anyone else.
* Do not be naughty or abuse the system.
* You must enjoy the comics that come from the FTP.  ;)
* This service is provided by Captain DJ and not Digital Comic Museum, any hate or problems please let him know.
* If you do have any issues please e-mail us at: admins@digitalcomicmuseum.com
* There is a user limit on the server currently so please think of others and don't stay logged in 24 / 7
* Once you use up your download limit you will no longer be able to connect to site via ftp.
* Anyone found to be breaking these rules will have their access revoked.

++++++++
For common questions on just what is FTP access see the next post in this topic.

A big thank-you to all you donors out there.  Those to come and those that have helped in the past.  And especially to those with repeating donations.  You guys are amazing!

Frequent Questions

What is FTP?
FTP is an acronym for File Transfer Protocol. As the name suggests, FTP is used to transfer files between computers.

How do I use a FTP Client?
I did consider writing my own guide but instead I am going to be lazy and ask you to take a look at the Filezilla tutorial at: https://wiki.filezilla-project.org/Documentation
Filezilla is a free open source FTP client

How do I donate to the site?
Use this link - http://digitalcomicmuseum.com/forum/index.php?action=treasury

Are all comic files on the FTP server?
Yes all files are on the server (or will be, once a day the FTP will sync up with the website so don't expect newly uploaded files to the website to appear instantly on the FTP.)

Help! I need help?
If you are having any problems please let me know via this thread, using the Contact Us feature on the download page or by e-mailing: admins@digitalcomicmuseum.com

Hi ... Probably a very dumb question here, but what advantage does FTP offer?  I understand it means file transfer protocol, but I've previously been able to download individual files from DCM to my computer just fine.  Does FTP enable mass downloading, say, of the entire run of a title or publisher at once?

Using an FTP Client allows you to queue up files and let them download when you go off and do more important things such as... drinking a cup of tea.

If your happy using the website like you do now that's fine, but I know we had a demand from people to allow FTP access so they could quickly download whole publisher full of comics without the need to select download on each comic book.

That's what I figured, and it would have been really convenient back when I was downloading all the Fawcett Marvel Family stuff.  Ah well, slow and steady eventually got me there....  Come to think of it, I do need to check back for the random scattered issues that weren't here 'way back then.

Thanks for the reply,

Kent

I'm logged in. Love the Donate-FTP Option!
I'm using Filezilla on the Mac, and it keeps failing when I try to download a file or folder.
Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Hi,

Can you drop me an e-mail at admins@digitalcomicmuseum.com and let me know if it every file / folder or just one etc.
Also if you can, copy / paste a copy of your filezilla console log.

Thanks,
Captain DJ

Let me know if you need another mac tester to see if it's an isolated issue or a more prevalent one.

Cyberduck is another one to use on FTP. It is the one I use for the site.

I am in process of switching over from old FTP server to new one. URL is being updated and hopefully you won't notice the switch over.

If you are still on the old server, from now until your DNS switches over to the new server's IP, any bandwidth you use will be given to you for free and not taken out of your allocation.

Once you jump onto the new server the bandwidth allowance will start tracking again.

I do apologies for this server change only 6 days into this but I was not happy with the servers performance and speed. The new one is much faster (spec wise) and has less bugs :)

Remember, if you have any issues please e-mail me at admins@digitalcomicmuseum.com

Is the login the same at the new server? I seem to be locked out halfway through my allotment. I had a bunch of stuff queued up so I kept the window open when it stopped working. Should I close all that down and start again?

Nope. Just tried a new connection and it said my bandwidth is used up, but I have lots left.
